Check Out: CHAPPO – “Hell No” (CoS Premiere)

Check Out: CHAPPO – “Hell No” (CoS Premiere) Say what you will about Apple, but their iPod licensing department has good taste in music . The latest addition to the brand's Rolodex (file after Caesars) is Brooklyn four-piece CHAPPO , whose song "Come Home" appeared in a recent iPod touch commercial . It's not hard to hear why: Alex Chappo's "Suh-thern" twang kicks dust on the band's swooping background synths, it's like all of a sudden you're listening in Technicolor. In addition to "Home", CHAPPO have recently released another track, "Hell No", off their forthcoming debut LP, Moonwater . It's crunchier than [...]

Check Out: Marina and the Diamonds – “Primadonna” (Octopus Remix) (CoS Premiere)

Check Out: Marina and the Diamonds – “Primadonna” (Octopus Remix) (CoS Premiere) Photo by Casper Balslev "Homewrecker" Marina Lambrini Diamandis, a.k.a.  Marina and the Diamonds , drives a spike heel straight into the middle ground between Lady Gaga and fellow Welshwoman Ellie Goulding with a heart-shaped beauty mark, blond curls, and the voice to back it all up. Her drop-top backbeats and voluptuous vocals snagged the glamazon opening spots on both Katy Perry and Coldplay 's summer tours, and now her latest single, "Primadonna", has caught the attention of another high-wattage musical outfit. Octopus is a relatively new production team [...]

Check Out: Like Pioneers – “Tell ‘Em Ghost” (CoS Premiere)

Check Out: Like Pioneers – “Tell ‘Em Ghost” (CoS Premiere) Like Pioneers is the freakishly attractive love child of Chicago indie-rock outfits Bound Stems, The Narrator, and Chin Up Chin Up. Following 20102s Piecemeal ,  the seven-member collective spent 2011 drinking, writing, and unifying as a solid group - not just a passing side-project. The result of those writing sessions is their nine-track sophomore effort, Oh, Magic . The band is teasing the album's May 22nd release with the Jesse Woghin-fronted "Tell 'Em Ghost". Upon first listen it's easy to tag the track as simple guitar-driven indie-pop, but as the track builds, vocal harmonies, guitar distortion, [...]

Check Out: Redgrave – “Dick Moves” (CoS Premiere) Imagine Alison Mosshart's fiery howl mixed with Led Zeppelin's demonic undertones pulled out of the noisiest depths of Daydream Nation  and you can get a sense of what the Chicago duo Redgrave  brings to the table. On June 12th, Redgrave will release their five song debut EP entitled National Act . As a first listen, check [...]

The Chuck Inglish-produced track features understated, heavily edited strings, resulting in an air of operatic romance that starts and stops suddenly. Stream it below. The track is reportedly [...]

Dive changes name to DIIV, shares new single

Dive changes name to DIIV, shares new single Brooklyn fuzz-rockers Dive (the side project of Beach Fossil's Zachary Cole Smith) have changed their name to DIIV. Smith told Pitchfork  that the band, who originally took their name from the Nirvana song , changed it "out of respect" to the original Dive, an early '90s Belgian industrial band. Smith also noted that the new moniker would have little impact on the band's sound, adding, "A name is nothing. I don't really give a fuck what the band is called. I originated this project in a bedroom with no internet and didn't know it would ever [...]

Check Out: Eternal Summers – “Millions”

Check Out: Eternal Summers – “Millions” As previously reported , Virginia chill-pop trio Eternal Summers will release their sophomore album, Correct Behavior , on July 24th via Kanine Records. The first track to surface, album opener "Millions", hears the band's new, clean post-punk sound in action. The track is essentially built on the up and down jangle of a particularly poppy guitar and Nicole Yun's vocals, which split their time between quiet coo and romantic wail. Despite the polishing, this number still contains some dreamier elements, with a lush rumble waiting just beneath the pop sheen, ready to take it greater, darker [...]

Redick is a fan , you know they've got something going for them). Now, their self-titled debut rife with "complex harmonies and organic, richly textured instrumentation" arrives July 17th via Atlantic Records.
