On Fucked Up's new album, the band brings concept to the forefront for a group of songs that tell a dramatic tale of love and loss. It's pretty, well, complicated. As "epic" as this story is, what makes it grandiose also kinda kills it for me, too. These songs make use of punk's trademark aggression and speed, but draws all the intensity out to a point where it no longer feels energetic, thrilling, cathartic, or any of the other things I look to this style of music for. Which leads me to believe that it's just [...]
Fucked Up, the golden child of Torontan hardcore, are giving away a new song, 'The Other Shoe', over on their official blog. It's unclear whether or not this track is going to be present on the band's forthcoming third album, David Comes To Life, but in the same blog post, the band did go on to [...]

Another great song up today, this time from the Montreal indie-rock singer/songwriter/band-of-the- same-name Patrick Watson . The Great Escape can be found on Watson's 2nd full-length album Close to Paradise , released in September of 2006. The album would go on to be named the best Canadian independent album of 2007 by the Polaris Music Prize , edging out an array of fantastic works such as Neon Bible from Arcade Fire , The Reminder from Feist , and Skelliconnection from Chad VanGaalen . Watson's most recent full-length release, [...]

A lot has been written about the Toronto hardcore-punk band Fucked Up since the release of their sophomore full-length album The Chemistry of Common Life last year. It has been labelled, by some, as a hardcore album that is too indie-rock to please the distinct tastes of the hardcore crowd, and by others as an indie-rock album that is too hardcore to not frighten-off the indie kids. As momentum for the album steadily built, new labels began to emerge for The Chemistry of Common life. People began referring to it as a perfectly constructed bridge between [...]
Congratulations to the Toronto, Ontario hardcore punk band Fucked Up , whose album The Chemistry of Common Life took home the 4th installment of the Polaris Prize last night. As promised, here are my thoughts on the show last night; In point form of course, as proper sentence transitions are for suckers. Whoever decided to have all 10 short-listers perform last night is a goddamn Canadian hero. I would pay at least $27 for a DVD of the show. Free Steam Whistle was a fantastic decision, that resulted in [...]

CBC News in Canada is reporting that Damian Abraham bka Pink Eyes, frontman for Toronto hardcore luminaries Fucked Up , has agreed to become more of a regular on Fox News program, Red Eye . That show might be better known for the Red Bull interview antics of host Greg Gutfeld, who as it turns out, named Fucked Up's excellent The Chemistry of Common Life his favorite disc of the year. A hulking presence in his own right, Abraham had previously made appearances [...]

The Chemistry Of Common Life . El grupo tocó junto a Moby un cover de la famosa "Blitzkrieg Bop" de The Ramones y la verdad no les quedó nada mal. ¿Ustedes [...]

(photo by David Waldman) Matador Records' wildest minds, Fucked Up , are finally coming back with their sophomore record, The Chemistry Of Common Life , set to hit shelves in October. It's the follow-up to their epicly loud first full length, the 2-disc Hidden World . Fucked Up, the five-piece hardcore act from Canada sound like seriously nothing you've heard of before. Or maybe they sound like everything you have. It's confusing and loud, abrasive and smart. Pretty much excellent. You can pre-order the disc here . [...]
