Exactly 11 years ago, Miles Zuniga was jetting off to Amsterdam with his Austin-based alt-rock outfit Fastball to try to put some touring muscle behind its latest release, The Harsh Light Of Day. Expectations were high, given the surprising mainstream success of 19982s All The Pain Money Can Buy, which the band milked for almost [...]
Acid Chess EP by Usurper of Modern Medicine Usurper of Modern Medicine's new Acid Chess EP is a short string of psychedelic and krautrock jams. With reverbed vocals, intense drums, and driving basslines, this band's showcasing a lotta energy that could bring them into more interesting directions in the future. The EP even ends with a remix of each track on the album, and what's awesome is that the remixes really recreate these tracks. They almost feel like completely unrelated songs. Stream the EP above, and grab it on [...]

The track builds before reaching an epic crescendo bursting with siren style howls, cutting guitar riffs and impassioned chanting.

Dubbledge lifts Chase & Status's beat off Hitz , from their recently released sophomore album No More Idols , and makes it his own, strategising Garry Kasparov style. Dubbledge Vs. Chase & Status - Chess The video to the original, featuring chart-topper Tinie Tempah, went live earlier this month.

Brother November - Checkers vs. Chess (DULAHIBCS cover) I will admit, my original intentions for checking out Brother November's latest album were strictly selfish. He covered a song of mine. I don't think anyone has ever done that before and I have to say, it kind of gives you a nice warm feeling all over to know that someone you don't know decided to learn a song of yours. And once I got over listening to myself as sung by someone else, I dived into the [...]

Written By Major Castleberry Chess is an art. If you have ever felt the satisfaction of creating something—whether it be poetry, photography, graphics, scuplting, or even a person, then you can understand why I am so in love with this game. I first learned chess at the age of nine, attracted at first by its elements of competitive strategy. Now that I'm older, I find something different draws me to it. Don't get me wrong, I still very much enjoy the competitive and strategic aspects but I've recently discovered something new—or perhaps something I've always [...]

When I first got to Istanbul someone exposed to me to a nargileh cafe behind a graveyard in the University district of Cemberlitas. It felt like a smoking room on a luxury liner from the early part of the century, probably right up to the class segregation. Waiters would shuffle up and down the aisles stocked with pyramids of tea amidst shelves of Turkish academia. They'd put a glass down on your table when you appeared finished, making 1 lira tallies on your corresponding order sheet accordingly. [...]
