I am not sure when the last time I saw a real freestyle. You know, a rap verse that wasn't written beforehand. Anyway, Danny Brown , Childish Gambino and Schoolboy Q held a little cipher during their show in Central Park last night, complete with a live band behind them that was dropping some ultra-funky beats. It's clear with songs like "Black Faces" that Gambino is headed in a much different direction than Camp . But then you hear "Silk Pillow" and realize that you may not have pinned his intentions down like you thought you had.
