After already popping my Lollapalooza cherry in 2008 and coming back home actually looking like a cherry, I came prepared to Lollapalooza 2009 with lots of sunblock and summer dresses. However, Friday quickly showed that 2009 would not be like 2008 in that regard. As a cold rain trickled throughout the day, I spent the entire day shivering uncontrollably and cursing that I had left my sweatshirt 30 minutes away at the Catholic worker house that I was crashing at. In an attempt to warm up, I even tried to buy one of the absurdly expensive [...]

In this economy, some may have noticed that concert attendance has taken a bit of a dive, so a good solution seems to be cheaper ticket sales. Hence the "96 Cent Stimulus Show" offered by 96.5 The Buzz and Manchester Orchestra at the Record Bar. OK, so tickets were really a $1, but still, that is dirt cheap for a concert to see one of this year's biggest buzz acts. Not surprisingly, it sold out in a matter of minutes and there was really no question that it would. The only question really was [...]

I don't get excited about albums anymore. Honestly, there is very little reason. It has become rather difficult to keep myself from assuming that projects as a whole are going to be worth my time. I think this is due to an extreme shift in the priorities of a struggling music industry. Staggering record sells have placed an overwhelming focus on the quality of radio singles rather than complete albums. No one makes albums worth listening to from from beginning to end anymore. They make discs packed with filler tracks. Without sounding like a condescending asshole, I simply have no [...]
I guess it's true you never knew the passive power of the truth. The Manchester Orchestra has recorded an epic album. An "I guess that's the last in-store acoustic performance" album. A "28-month-long world tour" album, and a "too bad your favorite band is no longer a secret" tour. They are quite possibly the most talented musicians the music industry has ever seen. That's a big statement, and I don't make it carelessly. Even Rainn Wilson knows they're going to be as famous as any arena band you [...]

Due to a one in one out policy for the packed tent that Radio Room had set up, not all of PopWreckoning made it in for the Manchester Orchestra performance. I had anticipated a full house with all the buzz these guys are getting for their new album Mean Everything to Nothing . "I've Got Friends" is only played every other second on my hometown radio station and it seems like every magazine and website (ours included) is calling this album the best 2009 release. With all this praise for the [...]

I was lucky enough to catch up with Chris Freeman , keyboard player and part time vocalist of the Atlanta, Georgia based Manchester Orchestra . Manchester Orchestra is currently touring the US with Kevin Devine , Dead Confederate and All Get Out . Joshua Hammond, Popwreckoning: I'm told that you guys created an album called Nobody Sings Anymore which was never released due to an extreme shift in the band's sound. What differed in that sound that the current [...]
