This song first caught my attention because I thought it was Chrissie Hynde, and as a lifelong Pretender's fan, I don't say that lightly. Calvi's flippantly cool, I-won't-wallow-in-my-pain, track is reminiscent of one of my favorite Pretender's songs, "Don't Get Me Wrong." Brian Eno referred to her as "the best thing since Patti Smith." Comparison's aside, the music is still fresh, new and interesting.

If last year's Hop Farm demonstrated that you could revel wholeheartedly in contemporary folk without so much as a mention of Mumford & Sons contrivance , this year's bash looks to the past to conjure a future that is, at this point in time, one of the most enticing line ups of the coming summer. For those of us who for decades could never get enough of Chrissie Hynde's voice, there is her new collaboration with Welsh singer-songwriter JP Jones, JP, Chrissie & the Fairground Boys . They've made a pretty good album, "Fidelity!," and they've made made an even better backstory — a 59-year-old rock legend and a 31-year-old folkie finding a special chemistry. I'm walking up Broadway to the Hotel Lucia, where my MFNW wristband (or bracelet, if you want to get all girly about it) awaits. You have to respect guys like J.P. Jones. A few years ago, he sidled up to Chrissie Hynde at a party and the next thing you know, they're bonding over a mutual love of fairgrounds. Not long after, they found themselves co-writing Fidelity! , a song cycle about a romance between a younger man and an older woman (much like the duo, who have 30 years age difference between them). A few weeks back I was blathering on about JP, Chrissie and The Fairground Boys , the new project from The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde and her new boy toy, Welsh singer-songwriter JP Jones .
