There are dozens of factors that go into creating a "great" record, and I try to consider them all while listening to music of any sub-genre, in any time period, from any geographical location (3 important elements that play a roll in critiquing music as far as I'm concerned). It's easy to simply write something ...

NPR (who are clearly taking Patton's advice with their recent live series) have posted a set from Circle Takes The Square recorded at the Black Cat in Washington, DC on August 27. The show, which was the first live appearance from the band in three years, was sold out and described as a " carefully considered set list culled from the band's small yet strong discography " Check it out here .

by Andrew Sacher "Circle takes the square and pg 99 were a once in a lifetime experience, black cat wasn't ready" - Alec Simke In 2004, the experimental post-hardcore quartet Circle Takes The Square released one of the decade's most interesting records, As the Roots Undo . Covering more ground in one song than many bands do in an entire career, they frantically tore through different [...]

Circle Takes The Square has always been one one of those game-changing bands (like Botch) that came, conquered, confused, and left before they were ever truly understood. They started as an Atlanta, GA based band (before bands like Mastodon and Baroness made it cool) and showcased their brand of disheveled, volatile opus arrangements (before the ...

It's our first listen of new Circle Takes The Square material in seven years. During the 9-minute sprawl of ""Hymn-Like Labyrinthine Chaos" , it's easy to see just why it took so long. Throughout the songs schizophrenic structure, Circle Takes The Square journey through emotive depths and chaotic valleys in a way that only they are capable. It's a wondrous return, and one that silences any doubt one might have had in the bands' ability to return after such a prolonged absence. STREAM // HYMN-LIKE LABYRINTHINE [...]

Avid Circle Takes The Square followers can all now take a collective sigh of relief. It's been seven years since these guys unleashed their all-time classic As The Roots Undo unto the world and we FINALLY have concrete information about it's follow-up. The wait won't be long. In fact, the band will be putting out the Rites of Initiation EP August 23rd via bandcamp . The new full-length, officially titled Decompositions: Volume 1 will follow that with a release sometime in November. Mark your calendars! [...]

Circle Takes The Square will release their long-awaited new album Decompositions: Volume 1 in November via their own Gatepost Recordings. Once out, it'll follow up 2004's As The Roots Undo . Prior to the album's release, the band will issue the Rites of Initiation EP on August 23, 2011 via their Bandcamp page ; the EP will be comprised of the first chapter (of three total narratives) from Decompositions: Volume 1 .
I can't tell if this is a preview of an individual song or the new album as a whole. With these guys, either guess would be just as valid. Either way, this probably means we're getting pretty close to finally hearing DECOMPOSITIONS .
More studio update footage has dropped from Circle Takes The Square . The band has finished tracking guitars, bass and vocals are up next. In this clip you actually get to hear a studio preview of one of the new songs. I couldn't possibly be any more amped for Decompositions at this point. Keep your ear to the ground, it's coming.
In 2004, Savannah based experimental post-hardcore group Circle Takes the Square turned the scene on its ear with the release of their critically heralded, ferocious debut full-length, As the Roots Undo; Seven years later, the band has made their long-awaited return to the studio to record their highly anticipated follow-up, Decompositions Volume 1, which they [...]
View the first update here . It looks like Circle Takes The Square have hit back with a few more studio updates since the last time I saw them. The "seven or so" songs that they've been working on seem to be getting finished at the moment. In the band's own words on their last update towards the end of February: "These songs are beginning to live and breathe on their own now and we can barely wait for their eventual release into the wild.... we've just about mapped all of the Forking [...]

Robotic Empire Let me introduce you to something you may know nothing about. It's a travesty of the not really obscure. Somewhat of a newcomer to the Pacific Northwest, I have yet to hear anyone mention their name. Not even in passing. I live in a city of scared ostriches. Winter is a state of mind [...]
