We always enjoy music that holds a certain uniqueness. With lyrics of love and joy, and their distinct spoken-word vocal style, Civilians are a great example of a band doing their own thing. We really hope to see the band in Canada one day, so when the band's Andrew Schofield wanted to fill us in on their five favourite fab gigs, AMBY just couldn't wait to read all about them! U-Club, Wuppertal, Germany 18 th September 2010 This is without a doubt the best gig we have all played. We’d been [...]
Hi we're Civilians, we formed mid-2012 in Stockport and Manchester after leaving other bands. We consist of Andrew, Phil, Daisy, Alex and Ben. We make indie/alt songs, with a bit of spoken word in there. We've supported Coves, The Chapman family and To Kill a King. We will hopefully be recording around mid 2013 and we're currently booking in gigs for around that time. We have some recordings on our soundcloud page if you'd like a listen. We should have more up soon. *** Facebook [...]

So whether you're also on spring break, or want to kick back, or just want some new songs for your music library, check out these rad tracks! Cold Fields- Egg Shells We're No Heroes- [...]

Date Thursday, August 2nd Location Emos Doors 900 pm Tickets $20 from C3 I'm sure this show probably doesn't need much of an introduction, as it's one of the hottest tickets around, but we thought we'd give you a friendly reminder about one of the big shows coming into town on Thursday. I should like the artsy indie folk rock of Dirty Projectors right? Clever instrumentation, quirky syncopation, amazing female harmonies, six NICE people on stage who compliment Vancouver's Stanley Park for being so awesome? Yeah, I do. For the most part. "Swing Lo Magellan" is totally Ron Sexsmith, "Made to Love Her" is solid indie rock, "No Intention" is all fine. David Longstreth, you're a good man. AND THAT BIT IN "Beautiful Mother" when Amber, Haley and Olga let rip and go all shrieky operatic and sort of blow everyone's hair back? Yeah, that was awesome. Yet sometimes [...]

Get your ears ready for a completely different sounding Wye Oak ! ' Spiral ' has been released as part of the latest Adult Swim compilation and bares little resemblance to last year's LP 'Civilian'. Gone are the heavy guitars, trudging pace and lamenting lyrics. Instead we've got an electronic leaning, new wave take topped with delay soaked vocals. Having said that, if you were to release a stand alone single, why not have some fun? Do something different? Pick up your free download . Download audio file (Wye-Oak-Spiral.mp3) [...]

The indie version of Jaws ? This is the post of 2 July 2012, in which I once again ignore my edict of New Music Monday, being that songs featured here be no more than 12 months in age, by featuring a song that is in fact nearly a full 16 months in age, but in which I once again also say the hell with it, close enough. And the song that I have deemed worthy of breaking the bylaws of New Music Monday? That would be "Dogs Eyes," by [...]
Ok! I know that you're thinking that this is just another remix for Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know", but it isn't! We have received a bunch of remixes of this track and I think we've blogged only two. Clearly this one is the sweetest of all. Well, at least for us! This awesome [...]
Wanted: Your sunny SoCal garage to house fantastic urban indie folk-rock duo from frozen Baltimore.

Our man Flater may have left the Chippewa Valley for the 24/7 combination rave/orgy that is Chicago, but his bread-making, rubberband-headband and basketball shorts-wearing spirit is still here, persisting in the hearts and retinas of all who knew him and suffered the chronic snow-blindness that came from looking in the general direction of his immodestly exposed and highly reflective (bright, bright white) legs. God protect his soul navigating the dingy corridors of that non-stop feast of Saturnalia that is the windy city, that suppurating gas bladder of festering urbania, where the pizza sauce scandalously rests ON TOP of the cheese. [...]

Looking his list of associated acts, it's apparent Dave Power is a man with his drumsticks in a lot of pies. As a drummer with the musical acumen to juggle several different ensembles at once, we considered it worthwhile to see what he views as the audial high-points of 2011. His list is as follows . . . 5) Wye Oak - Civilian Saw them live at First Avenue a few months ago. Just a drummer (playing [...]

We've heard some people say that 2011 was a bad year for music. We want to know what music they were listening to. Us guys (and gals) at DUL thought it was a pretty nice 365 days of tunes and we have the list to prove it. This year, with the formal inclusion of Brendan into the administrative ranks (imagine something similar to a knighting ceremony involving beards), we had to combine our separate, favorite albums into one list. Christ. It was hard, let.me.tell.you. In conclusion, after some vigorous emails and g-chatting, we came up with our Top 12. Why [...]

ALBUMS OF THE YEAR #12 Wye Oak - Civilian A crunchy and glistening shoegaze record which in its gleaming blueness and tranquility, echoes something of their excessively dynamic and overdriven past, but for the most part executes the choral vocal duets of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack with an ambience previously only hinted at. Wye Oak - Civilian ( MP3 ) Buy from Amazon [...]
