The departure of Tyler Sargent and Robbie Guertin from Clap Your Hands, Say Yeah has led to a mathematically accurate but slightly strange NME.com headline : Two fifths of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah leave the band Come on, NME - this isn't the time for fractions. It's clearly time for pie charts: So, why are they off? Guertin: "Being a member of Clap has been an incredible experience, but I have decided to move on and see what's next. I will continue to make [...]
Cork-based producer Replete has put up a new track for those of a late-night disposition. It's a delicate slice of electronica that edges closer to dubstep than other Irish producers have gone before. Replete, originally from Kilkenny, has some more tracks up on his Soundcloud. Replete is playing as part [Read more]
"Following" (download): A phrase has been following New York’s Phenomenal Handclap Band ever since its 2009 debut single “15 To 20” stole the ears of those on American and European dance floors, as well as those who like to sit and get baked in front of YouTube. And despite the self-described collective having just released [...]

Try and recall your grade school days in art class: Those endless minutes spent mixing paint, noodling around with sponges, etc. Odds are you thought of some serious shit during those moments. That sort of idea comes across in the new video for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah' s "Hysterical". A cacophony of bright, vivid colors race atop found photos and footage, the end result looking like an art student's post-modern orgasm. Or, just their attempt to be the new Jackson Pollock. Whatever the case, it still recalls those lazy days of running paint through our fingers. Check it out below. [...]

So lately, I have been on a little bit of a funk bender. I think it may have started because of a couple of weekends ago while in Whiskey Junction, in Minneapolis, before the SOJA show, at the Cabooze, we were in for a "Sunday Funkday." A small group of patrons were playing old school funk on the jukebox while dancing, singing and of course, drinking. This bar had a good vibe for a Sunday afternoon and that vibe was powered by the sound of funk. So it was no surprise that I found myself grooving in my car to Father Funk's "Clap Your [...]

Jeedo over at Bling47 got his hands on a vintage Dilla freestyle thanks to T3 of Slum Village. "I got this one on a cassette from T3 circa 1997. I’m not sure what it was for, or why Dilla had this on tape, but I thought it was hilarious. “Shut the Fuck Up and listen to this… this.” This kind of style was typical for our crew at this time – we were just finishing up the Fantastic Vol 1 album. [...]
Prior to arriving at the Pavilion for the sold-out second gig of a 20-date European tour for Clap Your Hands Say Yeah I had been reading this article about what it apparently takes to be a rock star: $100,000 in your first year as a band could see you achieve [Read more]

Hopefully, by this point, you know Zak Downtown . If not, educate yourself by checking out our posts covering his previous mixtape, Stuck to the Sidewalk , and his awesome track "Toast" , which samples Flux's "Gold Dust" remix. This track is the first single of Zak's upcoming mixtape, Downtown Deliquents , which is coming soon. If the tape is anything like this track, it's sure to be great. Since releasing "Stuck to the Sidewalk" last year, Zak's performed with Lupe Fiasco, Chiddy Bang, Hoodie Allen, Outasight, T Mills, and [...]

If you missed out on the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah DIY tale of musical independence, you should give it a go . Cuz it's a good one. But that's just hindsight to the fun ahead for the band. The new, revived 2011 edition of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah has a new CD out called "Hysterical" and a tour to boot. This NPR link provides a good overview of where the band has been over the past few years, and shows that the new LP is a coming together of musical maturity of [...]

Same Mistake - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah It’s safe to say that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have been around the block a few times. They’re no longer the “new hip band” everyone’s listening to, and it seems they would prefer it that way. Fortunately CYHSY doesn’t need the hype to convince anyone they’re worth it - the music speaks for itself. With their third studio album, Hysterical, this five-piece band has found a sound that makes the four-year wait since Some Loud Thunder feel [...]

It's somewhat surprising to find that just six years ago, Clap Your Hands And Say Yeah

Just six years ago, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah was the poster child for DIY indie rock bands (in other words, the band releases their album without the support of a major or independent label). The band's 2005 self-titled debut received so much hoopla and hoorah, but it didn't quite meet expectations. It's been a steady decline in critical and fan interest ever since. Two albums later, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah latest effort called Hysterical was released last month. I had no expectations for this album to be honest, but after [...]

Alec Ounsworth has written the best CYHSY disc yet. It took a few years to come to Hysterical, spening their time off in other projects including an Ounsworth solo album, but it looks like the absence paid off. I got to talk to Alec about the LP, the bands history and a whole lot more.
