Link Wray, who is considered by many to be one of the greatest and most important rock & roll guitarists of all-time, is a pretty familiar name with rock fans all over the world. The man practically invented distorted, fuzzy, and wild rock guitar sounds. He was one of the first, if not the first, guitarists to use the almighty power-chord. Pete Townshend has famously cited Link's importance, claiming that "he is the king; if it hadn't been for Link Wray and 'Rumble', I would have never picked up a guitar." By the way, "Rumble" has since been added by [...]

Jimi Hendrix has always been of my go-to classic rock artist that I play when I'm sick of listening to anything else on my iTunes. I really don't know exactly what it is about his music that has made me so fond of his psychedelic sounds. Whatever it is, it's definitely influenced some of my favorite artists as well. Below are some tracks that have sampled Jimi's music. 1. Are You Experienced: 2. Remember: [...]

The Plimsouls captured live in their prime.

Most people are familiar with Tommy James and the Shondells through their impressive string of radio hits, but what few people realize is that, alongside said bubblegum classics, the band was busy laying down some of the weirdest rock and roll of the era. 19692s Cellophane Symphony is a beautiful case in point, and in fact doubles as an excellent gateway into the Shondells' discography. Few rock and roll groups have ever been adventurous enough to open an album of catchy, psychedelic rock and roll with a droning, ten minute space rock instrumental, especially when you [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News AFP, Getty Images Bryan Adams is coming home -- well, at least for the duration of his long-overdue coast-to-coast Canadian tour this spring. The longtime Vancouverite, now living abroad in England, will bring his classic rock anthems back to his homeland on April 11, kicking off the 20-date arena tour on the far side of the country in St. John's, Nfld. A tour like this [...]

[Photos by Jill at fortheloveofbrooklyn ] While Wasilla, Alaska will forever be inextricably linked with its most famous resident, a certain former vice presidential candidate, music fans may know it as the unlikely birthplace of Portugal. The Man [punctuation theirs]. Now based in Portland, the young band is an unabashed classic rock throwback, with semi-psychedelic, jammable songs that take their cues from the sounds of rock's late 60s - mid 70s period. I fully admit to them being one of those bands that flew completely under my radar, until I noticed one day that they were headlining [...]
Seventeen classic doo-wop tracks from The Tymes.

A famous psychologist once said that the flow of ideas work a lot like the process of contagious yawning – when one person sees or reads an idea they tend to talk about it and spread it on. While that may be obvious enough, one can see how cities would be the peak of this idea – more people in closer contact in a smaller space will tend to spread the "yawn" faster. This is my theory on why, while recently visiting Amsterdam, I was able to discover so much great new music I never heard of before – including [...]

While Jesse Ed Davis' legacy has finally started to see the light of recognition, there is still a long way to go in establishing his rightful place in the pantheon of rock and roll legends. The Kiowa guitarist's career encompassed work with everyone from Conway Twitty to John Lee Hooker to Bob Dylan, and his time served in the original Taj Mahal band would be highly influential on up-and-coming guitar slingers like Duane Allman (he being the inspiration for the latter's taking up bottleneck-style guitar in the first place). Davis never really managed to establish himself as a [...]

Brendan Benson was the first artist I bought tickets to see live. I did go and see him, that's not why I worded that first sentence so oddly. But, there was a Kenny Loggins' concert I went to with my Dad at a young enough age where I was probably still pooping my pants. I mention that because with that memory, Brendan Benson, built himself an eternal place in my heart. His power-pop ways have soothed my ears for 7 years now, which is why this post is particularly exciting. It's new Brendan Benson, the first track [...]

Anyone who has ever loved the sound of a crushing electric riff, a perfect melody, a rousing chorus, rough-hew, soulful vocals, or a guitar solo so freaking fast and dynamic that it makes your eyeballs water, needs no introduction to UFO . After more than 40 years in the business, these crazy Brits have earned their place in the honored halls of rock and roll, both for their music and their mad antics. So let's cut to the chase shall we. UFO's last album, The Visitor was, without a doubt, the best [...]
Take another look at some of 2011's best music.

If I'm completely honest the actual accuracy of which album was the first I ever bought with my own money is pretty hazy…we're talking 30 odd years here!!! It could well be something by the Police or maybe even Adam And The Ants. I can say with absolute conviction though that I definitely did buy Tattoo You by the Rolling Stones with my own dosh. I can even remember the sticker on the front that said £3.50. You try buying a brand new vinyl album for £3.50 nowadays…I tell you it can't be done!!! [...]

Well, obviously folks are going to recognize the title track of this one, the buzzing slice of pseudo-religious boogie that made Norman Greenbaum...well, maybe not a household name, but at least established him as the voice behind one of the most recognizable tunes to come out of the 1970s. It is actually more than a little surprising that, despite having scored such a serious smash single, Greenbaum would be so quick to drop out of the public eye. Few people have given the rest of his recordings their fair shake, despite albums like Spirit In the Sky and [...]

By Sweet Sound of Sunrise Thursday nights are a good time to be at the Orbit Room - specifically, the last Thursday of every month. Live music regularly draws a crowd to this upstairs bar, which would almost be hidden from passersby if it weren't for the sign out on the sidewalk. In fact, I almost walked past it two nights ago when I went to see what has easily been my favourite musical discovery of the year. [...]
