ARTIST: The Classics - 010 Earthling by David Bowie DATE: 02-22-13 WRITER: Bill Adams One quick trip through the annals of pop and rock music history will reveal how wildly common it is for an album for be described as "ahead of its time," but what does that really mean? That the artist who made the record had the forethought to see where music trends were headed and rushed just ahead of the curve enough to [view more]

When you see a remix of a classic song from one of the biggest bands in the world you try to listen with care, not knowing what might come out of it and keep an open mind about it. Miami based trio Dude Skywalker (what a great name for all the nerds out there) have managed to pick up on the contemporary monster that is Pink Floyd and on the worldwide hit "The Wall". I'm not going to dwell in to the importance or meaning of the song, but they're walking on a thin line here. Dude Skywalker [...]

Rachel Zeffira: The Deserters – Rachel Zeffira is an enigma. She can play more instruments than you can name and she is an accomplished opera singer. She has talent oozing from her pores, and her first solo album, The Deserters , pays homage to her genius. We were lucky enough to be able to chat with her for a bit, and her humbleness only makes her more endearing. It becomes clear how hard she worked on this album, and poured every part of herself into it, and that can not be ignored. This album [...]

Today the Flight Facilities have just released another one of the pearls heard on their latest mixtape. The second run on their "triple J mix up" can be found here , and it's a flashback of songs and events set between 1982 and 1992. Some of the songs presented in this mix have been edited by themselves and it's good for us that they want to show them. This is a classic piece from 1986 by Paul Simon, from his album "Graceland", a song he started recording in South Africa which still resonates to some bands [...]

With Rachel Zeffira 's debut solo album The Deserters , the Canadian-born, London-based musician wants to make her presence known in the world of baroque pop. And it shouldn’t be that hard. Zeffira is an immensely talented multi-instrumentalist, with conservatory training in everything from violin to cathedral organ. The Deserters is a whirlwind of a debut album, and quite the departure from her previous work with Cat’s Eyes , a duo project with UK distortion wizard Faris Badwan. The Deserters , which Zeffira self-produced and recorded [...]

Sugar Plum Fairy by Tchaikovsky (by GlassDuo ) Played on a Glass Harp. Glass Harp?
Not strictly speaking a remix; a cover version. This is a cover of the lauded Mazzy Star track Fade Into You . Everyone seems to lose reason over Hope Sandoval but the original leaves me cold. This version is therefore a welcome change of direction. Barcelona's Buffetlibre replaces the slide guitar with some lovely piano and Hope gets done over by the deepness of Micah P Hinson's vocal. A welcome change of direction for the track - as welcome as that male cover of Madge's Beautiful Stranger from a few years back. [...]

I love holidays in New York City. It gives me a chance to breath the true beauty of such an incredible place. My one and only, first true love, is NYC , so I'm always so excited to have the closest thing to alone time that I can with her. Ceremony (New Order Cover ft. Ida No) by the Chromatics can go on repeat today for me, as I hop on empty trains, walk through empty streets, and even take normally expensive cabs across town, up and down, all around this [...]
Virtuoso double bass player Edger Meyer is in the country to peform his first ever show in India as part of the Melody Of Rhythm trio comprising Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck, and himself. We sat down with Meyer a few days ago, and talked to him about his earliest influences, the different roles the double bass can play in music, and what audiences can expect from the trio’s upcoming performance with the Symphony Orchestra Of India at the NCPA, Mumbai. Edgar Meyer’s training in music started early. Citing his late father as his earliest and most definitive influence [...]

"Since their explosive debut in 1989, the critically acclaimed Borromeo String Quartet have become one of the most sought after strings quartets in the world, performing over 100 concerts of classical and contemporary music across three continents every season. Audiences and critics alike champion their ability to bring back the contemporary fire to often heard works from the classic repertoire while making even the most challenging new music approachable. As one of today's most adventurous quartets, they continue to push musical, intellectual, and [...]

Before listening to this remix, I wasn't quite sure if this was a good idea. When you take the risk of remixing an epic tune such as Felix Da Housecat's "Silver Screen," you already know that there's a possibility you're going to be judged harshly! Actually, while I am playing this song here at home, I remembered a cool story behind this track. The original single was released in 2001, and I clearly remember reading that Missin Kittin (on the vocals) was totally pissed with Felix, because she didn't receive her share for being part of this track. She was [...]

justin timberlake feat jay z - suit & tie directed by david fincher (who still proves that he can make the best glossy videos around), it's nice to see JT do his suave thing (especially when he dances! swoon!) the song is still cheese though... http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld
Pianist Envy- A piano mixtape by Chilly Gonzales “I am Chilly Gonzales, the sad musical genius. Some of you may know that I was born Jason Beck, but Jason is dead to me now. I have permanently and legally changed my name to Chilly Gonzales. To celebrate me becoming me, I offer to you the first-ever piano mixtape “Pianist Envy,” my declaration of defiance to the rappers and beatmakers who, unbeknownst to them, leave space for my musical imagination. You know those rap beats and electro songs - the ones with almost nothing in them? [...]

So it's that time of the year again folks; the flowers are well trying to bloom. Everything is plastered in a red or pink taint. The Greetings Card Companies are foaming at the mouth with all the money they've been making and your significant other has been dropping hints like your pets dropping... well droppings!? That didn’t really work, I’m sorry. So here’s a collection of love songs and songs that are vaguely related to love for you and yours! You can name all the babies that are conceived after me. [...]

We just found this soul edit and thought we'de share the love. It's always nice to see that people don't forget the classics and especially this one by the talented Minnie Riperton, an artist whose life was shortly abrupted at the age of 31. It's got all that soul goodness inside, and much more, making it more danceable with a groove that sounds just right. The collaboration between Maturana , Axel Go and Apricot works perfectly. Just friends sharing their love for music. Listen and share the Golden love. You can have this has a [...]
