Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Phillip Joseph Steinberg of Spring Hill, Florida, took his buddy's car for a booze run when he decided to don a ski mask, gloves and a knife and hold up the nearby Village Pizza. He failed miserably. The cashier at the pizzeria told Steinberg "no" twice after being asked for money from the register, so the suspect imperceptibly slumped and left the restaurant. In a matter of 12 minutes, police arrested the 22-year-old. Deputies from the sheriff's office caught up to Steinberg at his buddy's house. From [...]

Words by Joseph Smith Before Karen O’s glittery fist smashed the glass ceiling back in the early noughties, women were something of an anomaly in rock and roll, which is all the more surprising when you consider that today females all but dominate the most exciting advances in the genre. Contemporary macho postulating has weeded out all of the geeky sentimentality in guitar music, and the only hope of saving outsider-romance lays in the hands of bands like Prissy Clerks . In stark contrast to the sheer pornography of modern pop music, the [...]

Director Kevin Smith announced this weekend that he will distribute his horror film Red State himself; "Indie film isn't dead. It just grew up, this is Indie 2.0." He debuted the film at the Sundance Festival , where he said that he wasn't there to pick up a distributor for Red State, but to make the announcement. Starting at New York's Madison Square Gardens on March 5th, Smith will tour his film around the country from city to city, [...]

This post over at Live for Films with a great pic of John Goodman got me going on Kevin Smith again, but let's start with a pic. I am loving the Red State of the Union podcasts with Kevin Smith (part of the SModcast network). It is much more than just a way [...]

Former indie filmmaker Kevin Smith has made a name for himself in Hollywood, both as a writer/director, and as an actor. His most recent work takes him back to the indie sensibility with Red State . Red State wrapped just 3 days ago, and the wrap party was held at Smith’s home on Saturday night. Smith is quite relentless and cut the film so it could be screened at the party: “…this puppy is fine-cut, complete with credits [...]

Here we are, back at 1994 when the punk was punk and the grunge was grungy. The mid '90s was a hell of a time for film soundtracks to be perfectly honest. Every musical genre was retrofitted to movies, seamlessly holding them together, sometimes by a thin stream of consciousness ( Lost Highway ), or other times when the film enhanced the sounds of a depicted era ( Singles , The Crow ). Somewhere in the shuffle of this decade between hair bands and nu-metal, a movie came around that not so much defined a generation but instead became [...]
Next week the U.S. gets a new President, thank fucking God, and Relapse Records is celebrating by issuing a 73 box set of their This Comp Kills Fascists compilation. How fucking awesome is that? Until then, here's what we'll mull over during the long weekend (MLK day in the U.S.): Would you like to suck my [...]
That Berzerker video Axl posted yesterday was all well and boobalicious, but when I think of Berzerker, much like MS commenters dthrasher and Fink, I immediately think of this scene from the classic Kevin Smith movie Clerks: Related posts: THE BERZERKER, BOOBS AND BLOOD: A WINNING COMBINATION (14)
