Apricot Rail's utterly beautiful sophomore album Quarrels has been starting to stir up some US radio love of late, recently featuring in a number of college radio Top 302s. Flume  just wrapped up his first (and massively successful) tour of the US, which followed a breakout run at SXSW and Ultra Fest. He sold out virtually every show on tour, an amazing feat considering he had previously only played in New York City, and during the insanity of CMJ, no less. Though named for a popular British toy company, Chad Valley is more than just a plaything Oxford, UK's Hugo Manuel. Also the frontman for the group Jonquil, Manuel has turned a couple of lo-fi solo EPs into a fully realized project of lush, summery synth-pop. Blue Hawaii kickstarted as an experiment between Braids ’ vocalist Raphaelle Standell-Preston and Montreal-based artist, Alex “Agor” Cowan. Their first album, Blooming Summer, debuted back in 2010 on Cowan’s own imprint, Arbutus Records , and was comprised mainly of sun-drenched pop songs that Raph initially described as something like a “project of love.” From what we’ve been hearing, their sophomore record, which is set to drop later this month, is  straying away from the sounds they previously presented, taking a left turn in regards to both its production and inspiration. Little Green Cars was one of my favorite discoveries at this year's CMJ festival. Right now they only have a two-song EP available, the incredible The John Wayne , with plans to release a full-length album in 2013. Luckily, the show during CMJ was recorded, so I have something to tide me over until then.
