Check out my photos from Coachella Sunday 2013 Weekend Two over at OC Weekly .
The Lumineers took the main stage at Coachella on the final afternoon of the festival's somewhat unnecessary second weekend (although, people who missed Weekend 1 surely don't share that sentiment). When you first take in their presentation — the guys looking like purveyors of small-batch pickles, the always-smiling cellist/singer Neyla Pekarek dressed a bit like Dorothy, the antique piano, old-timey hats and beat-up acoustic guitars — and it can seem like the halftime show at a Civil War reenactment. You wonder how much of this could possibly be authentic. But then you see how damn passionate [...]
While weekend two of Coachella winded down without much noise, there was one moment that stood out. During his performance last night James Blake was joined by RZA , where the two performed their collaborative cut from Overgrown . While RZA hadn't fully memorized the lyrics to "Take a Fall for Me" (and really, can we fault him for that?), it was still fantastic to see the two on stage together. Check out the performance below.

Detroit rapper Danny Brown 's forthcoming Old album is one of the LP's due out this year that I'm most looking forward too. His last album XXX was probably my favourite hip-hop album of 2011 and I get the feeling that, Old is going to send him stellar. Last weekend, Brown performed at Coachella music festival, debuting new tune, Dope Song , as part [...]

Coachella 2013 did not go quietly into the night — Red Hot Chili Peppers provided the festival-ending fireworks on a steamy day that offered none of the calamity of the previous weekend's windstorm-plagued Sunday. If you were lucky, you caught Father John Misty dispensing some knowledge from a lawn chair, or Vampire Weekend rocking it from the main stage, or veterans Dinosaur Jr. and Social Distortion roaring away like kids. Photographer Scott Dudelson sent along this mini-gallery, then (hopefully) enjoyed a cool drink.

by Andrew Sacher Descendents at Coachella 2013 Weekend 1 ( more by Dana (distortion) Yavin ) Good news and bad news. Good news first: melodic punk legends Descendents just wrapped up their second weekend at Coachella 2013 (pictures of them from weekend 1 are HERE ), and have since announced that they'll be playing more dates for this year, including one in the NYC-area. The bad news? The dates are support slots for -- wait [...]

Father John Misty at Coachella 2013 weekend 1 ( more by Dana (distortion) Yavin ) We knew that Father John Misty was quickly moving up in the world, but after his sold out Webster Hall show , he decided to scale things back a bit by announcing a tour with Adam Green & Binki Shapiro and Jessica Pratt which brings him back to the NYC-area for a more intimate show on May 17 at Maxwell's , the [...]
Danny Brown was one of the sweatiest performers I saw at Coachella, mostly because of his unrelenting rubbery energy in the mid-day blazing sun. During his set, he gave a taste of what's to come from his upcoming LP Old . One of those songs is the particularly aggressive "Dope Song," further proof that he can hop on a beat of any stripe and own it. Watch the video below. Read More...
It was weird enough to see that RZA was featured on "Take A Fall For Me" , a song from James Blake's new album Overgrown. It's even weirder to see that RZA joined James Blake during his live performance at Coachella over the weekend. RZA made things even more weird by bringing a girl on stage and rapping his verses to her. It was slightly strange and definitely a little awkward. Watch the performance below.
Over the course of two full-length studio albums and an EP Bon Iver front man Justin Vernon has enchanted us with his heart-tugging falsetto vocals and lushly arranged folk-rock. If you think you've got him pegged as just the poster child for the beard-rock movement then think again, as Vernon has unleashed a new side with his latest project The Shouting Matches . The three-piece act, that also features Brian Moen (Peter Wolf Crier) and Phil Cooke (Megafaun), originally came together back in 2006, in the wake of the break-up of the much mythologized DeYarmond Edison. The band, [...]

Those of you who attended the second Coachella weekend and caught James Blake 's set were treated to a special treat. He brought out RZA to perform their Overgrown collaboration, " Take a Fall For Me ", for what I'm assuming is the first time in a live setting. With that in mind, you have to give the guys some leeway for what ends up being a pretty awkward performance at times. You can also blame some blame on RZA for not knowing all the words and bringing some girl on stage [...]
Here's everything that bothered us about Coachella's second weekend. Hey, at least there was no dust storm! Native American Headdresses These have still not gone away. In fact, one particularly ... Continue reading "The Worst of Coachella: Weekend Two" >
Coachella’s line-up this year hearkens back to the past—not the old past, but my past, to the bands that were popular when I was in high school. To keep in the spirit of things, I’ve reviewed all of Friday’s bands as I might have done in Freshman English at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa. Today’s format? Spenserian sonnets! Here's part I: COACHELLA DAY 3: POLO GREEN IS GOLD The Lord's Day started out in Satan's hands, Black gloved and, God knows, drenched in [...]
