Because Coachella's line-up this year hearkens back so very, very much to the days of my childhood, particularly high school, I've spent all weekend doing coverage in the formats I knew best from Freshman English. We skipped Coachella this year and instead went the Fauxchella route. It was fun, loads of merriment all around; plenty of booze and splashing around and music to partake in. But damn if these photos don't make us wish we actually did make it to the festival. The Lumineers took the main stage at Coachella on the final afternoon of the festival's somewhat unnecessary second weekend (although, people who missed Weekend 1 surely don't share that sentiment). When you first take in their presentation — the guys looking like purveyors of small-batch pickles, the always-smiling cellist/singer Neyla Pekarek  dressed a bit like Dorothy, the antique piano, old-timey hats and beat-up acoustic guitars — and it can seem like the halftime show at a Civil War reenactment. While the bros and the... let's say "overmedicated" crowds can sometimes be deterrents to enjoying the weekend, ultimately, you're there for the music. And there is  something for everyone. While weekend two of Coachella winded down without much noise, there was one moment that stood out. During his performance last night James Blake was joined by RZA , where the two performed their collaborative cut from Overgrown . While RZA hadn't fully memorized the lyrics to "Take a Fall for Me" (and really, can we fault him for that?), it was still fantastic to see the two on stage together. Coachella 2013 did not go quietly into the night — Red Hot Chili Peppers provided the festival-ending fireworks on a steamy day that offered none of the calamity of the previous weekend's windstorm-plagued Sunday. If you were lucky, you caught Father John Misty dispensing some knowledge from a lawn chair, or Vampire Weekend rocking it from the main stage, or veterans Dinosaur Jr. and Social Distortion roaring away like kids. The common refrain about Coachella dictates: "It's not about the music, man, it's about the festival experience." With the dance/sex tents in full swing, dozens of corporate-sponsored hideaways at every corner offering shade and mild distraction in exchange for a few minutes of direct advertising access to your brain, and the untamed wilderness of the campground, where god knows what happens all day and night but it certainly ain't music - it's hard to argue.
