Tackling Coachella with White Arrows

Tackling Coachella with White Arrows It’s the week sandwiched between Coachella festivals and White Arrows is rocking out to a young audience in Orange County, California when something mistakenly becomes unplugged; they handle it like champions, playing a prolonged surf rock jam to pass the time. It was easy to tell from their demeanor that they were all shot from the previous weekend’s events but they played through it such like a band with many more years behind them. I met Los Angeles-based White Arrows at The Observatory to exchange pleasantries before accompanying the group on a whirlwind weekend that would feature many [...]

Coachella 2013: I Said I Might Never Go Back, So I Went Back the Next Weekend

Tame Impala - Elephant (Live at Coachella 2013)
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , Exclusive Lindsey Best for AOL I said I might never go back to Coachella . I'd done it already. It felt like someone else's high school reunion. Back in Los Angeles, there was a lot going on. I saw James Blake play for 1 00 people in a recording studio . It wasn't as good as his festival set. An intimate James Blake show is perhaps [...]

COACHELLA, DAY 3 PART 2: DINOSAUR JR., SOCIAL DISTORTION, FATHER JOHN MISTY, HARDWELL, NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS, OMD, WU-TANG CLAN, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS

Because Coachella's line-up this year hearkens back so very, very much to the days of my childhood, particularly high school, I've spent all weekend doing coverage in the formats I knew best from Freshman English. That means poems, particularly haikus and limericks ! But the concluding day of the festival called for a little somber reflection, and therefore I turned to sonnets, specifically Spenserian sonnets. That means ABAB, BCBC, CDCD, EE, for those rhyming at home, and the whole thing has to be [...]

Watch: Dumb People at Coachella Pretending To know Fake Bands—Hilarious

Watch: Dumb People at Coachella Pretending To know Fake Bands—Hilarious File this video skit under a Jimmy Kimmel win. I don't watch the show much, but ahahhahaha this makes me wanna tune in more often. Dumb hipsters wanting to be sooooo in that they get suckered in to talking about bands that are so obscure that they do not even exist. Bands like Dr. Schlomo and the GI Clinic, Shorty Jizzel and the Plumber Crunks, The Obesity Epidemic, Get The Fuck Out Of My Pool and The Chelsea Clintons. PS: did you know that the word "Coachella" is actually Indian for dumb white guy? [...]

10 Amazing Photos From Coachella

10 Amazing Photos From Coachella We skipped Coachella this year and instead went the Fauxchella route. It was fun, loads of merriment all around; plenty of booze and splashing around and music to partake in. But damn if these photos don't make us wish we actually did make it to the festival. A photo is worth a thousand blah blah blahs, and what have you, but these kinda leave me speechless… 10. 09. 08. 07. [...]

Coachella 2013: The Lumineers Liven Up A Lethargic Crowd

The Lumineers took the main stage at Coachella on the final afternoon of the festival's somewhat unnecessary second weekend (although, people who missed Weekend 1 surely don't share that sentiment). When you first take in their presentation — the guys looking like purveyors of small-batch pickles, the always-smiling cellist/singer Neyla Pekarek  dressed a bit like Dorothy, the antique piano, old-timey hats and beat-up acoustic guitars — and it can seem like the halftime show at a Civil War reenactment. You wonder how much of this could possibly be authentic. But then you see how damn passionate [...]

Coachella 2013: The Good, The Bad, The Bros

Coachella 2013: The Good, The Bad, The Bros Our intrepid, heat-resistant reporters spanned both weekends of this year's Coachella to bring you a look at the (no exaggeration) epic music festival from the comfort of your own laptop. While the bros and the... let's say "overmedicated" crowds can sometimes be deterrents to enjoying the weekend, ultimately, you're there for the music. And there is  something for everyone. Here are our highlights, with special thanks to Doug Levy, Liat Kriegel, and Dan Busta . Jonsi of Sigur Ros. Photo credit: [...]

[Watch] RZA Joins James Blake On Stage at Coachella

James Blake with The Rza - Take A Fall For Me - Live @ Coachella Festival 4-21-13 in HD
While weekend two of Coachella winded down without much noise, there was one moment that stood out. During his performance last night James Blake was joined by RZA , where the two performed their collaborative cut from Overgrown . While RZA hadn't fully memorized the lyrics to "Take a Fall for Me" (and really, can we fault him for that?), it was still fantastic to see the two on stage together. Check out the performance below.

Coachella 2013: A sweltering but fantastic finish to two weekends of music and merriment in the desert

Coachella 2013: A sweltering but fantastic finish to two weekends of music and merriment in the desert Coachella 2013 did not go quietly into the night — Red Hot Chili Peppers provided the festival-ending fireworks on a steamy day that offered none of the calamity of the previous weekend's windstorm-plagued Sunday. If you were lucky, you caught Father John Misty dispensing some knowledge from a lawn chair, or Vampire Weekend rocking it from the main stage, or veterans Dinosaur Jr. and Social Distortion roaring away like kids. Photographer Scott Dudelson sent along this mini-gallery, then (hopefully) enjoyed a cool drink.

Coachella 2013 Weekend 2: Sunday’s 5 Best Things

The common refrain about Coachella dictates: "It's not about the music, man, it's about the festival experience." With the dance/sex tents in full swing, dozens of corporate-sponsored hideaways at every corner offering shade and mild distraction in exchange for a few minutes of direct advertising access to your brain, and the untamed wilderness of the campground, where god knows what happens all day and night but it certainly ain't music - it's hard to argue.
