This week the staff and myself will start mentioning at least one artist a day that will be playing during the biggest and craziest week on the planet. Time for what you came here for. It's Monday, so you've got to kick things off with a nice rocker, so that's why I'm offering you up this sweet little number from The Coathangers . The group's running a split 73 with friends, Davila 666 , on a limited press from Suicide Squeeze , which will hit on April 17th. Just one listen to this and you'll have enough energy to get yourself through the day-banging drums and stuttering sharp edged guitars always do it for me. If you dig this, be sure to keep an [...]

So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band, a show preview, or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we'll just round 'em all up for you. Most of these videos are of artists we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won't be telling you much about the bands themselves, just some musings that really aren't worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a trillion. Do it! [...]

Speaking of crazy asses here is a new video taken from a live recording by the Atlanta post-punkers wild hotties The Coathangers at the Lovebird Recording. Watch | The Coathangers - Sicker Live at Lovebird Recording

By the end of the Girl in a Coma show Saturday night, a leather-jacketed guy was riding piggyback on the top of another guy's shoulders. It's a move for an outdoor festival, not a dark and claustrophobic club like Chicago's Double Door, but the exuberant reaction fit the hurtling barrel of punk, tejano, grunge, and rockabilly the San Antonio trio spun. Girl in a Coma, signed to Joan Jett's Blackheart label in 2006, is more than five years into a busy career that has included four albums and a stint opening for [...]

All holiday song rewrites aside, this is the perfect weekend to check out our fair city's fine local acts. The Coathangers - Hurricane Buy US: Buy UK:

New favorite band OF THE FUCKING YEAR. The Coathangers (not to be confused with the Raincoats , although that would be quite funny) are a 4 piece all girl punk band from Atlanta and before I can even say check them out before Pitchfork turns them into disposable hipster hype, Big P got there before me. Nothing wrong with that. I'm just being bitchy. [The Coathangers - Hurricane] Awesome comment on youtube by the way: " Why are they all fucking beautiful. Fuck you. Fuck you for being so beautiful . [...]

DZ Deathrays Formerly known as DZ , the newly renamed DZ Deathrays are two gentleman from Brisbane in Australia. They make loud, obnoxious, unashamedly messy rock music that needs to be played loud and proud. They have just released a new EP titled ' Brutal Tapes ' through I Oh You . The record is full of heavy ear splitting riffs and brutal drums, coupled with yelpy shouty pop vocals. It's quite apt that these guys started their band at a house [...]

Here's the second release from X-Ray Recordings and it's an absolute beauty. It's a double A-side 7'' from The Coathangers, featuring the tracks Hurricane and Johnny . It's released on October 24 and you can grab yourself a copy of the release right through the X-Ray website . In the meantime, get your (blunted prop) flick-knife out and stare menacingly at the screen while you listen to the gloriously gritty grindhouse flavours of Hurricane .

Facebook I'm a big fan of boutique labels (a quick look around this site will lead you to find my attempt, which has some news of its own soon), they are generally run by passionate people like myself who don't really give two hoots about making money (though breaking even helps) and exist as a platform for someone to release music that excites them by artists that perhaps haven't got another means or as a way to support independent artists. These are the labels and artists where your hard-earned (or student loan) should be going - [...]

As I watch and listen to the footage of this week's session featuring The Coathangers , I can't help but think of Halloween. Maybe it's the oncoming presence of fall as it creeps in undeniably with the wind, a little more every day. Maybe it's my intense craving for candy as of late, and I'm subconsciously fantasizing about the mother of all candy-giving holidays. Most likely, it's the aesthetic of The Coathangers ; a lively clash of dissonance and melody in which every instrument and voice contributes to the overall [...]

Atlanta's The Coathangers were recently interviewed on Dirty Laundry , and talked about Black Lips , signing to Suicide Squeeze Records and rejected band names, among other things. Check it out below. The band released Larceny and Old Lace earlier this year.
