Yesterday morning I woke up to find Damon Albarn had remixed "Born to Die" while checking the latest news on my phone. Right after, however, I fell back asleep and forgot about it until just a few hours ago, which happens to me more than it should. Damon Albarn's version, more than any other, chops & skews "Born to Die" and layers it into a 6-min tripped out piece. It does take a few minutes until her vocals are really brought out, but once Lana kicks in, so does Albarn's downtempo, electro alterations. This [...]

From the word 'prog' some people tend to scatter. I should know; I am one of them. Usually. This band, however, may change your mind about prog. They're called Amplifier and I have been advised by TGTF writer John that they will be huge. The band released a double CD called 'The Octopus' that has garnered rave reviews in the media. The Times have said about the band "There is something heroic about Amplifier's embrace"; is there? First, you can listen to and download their track 'Planet [...]

Yeah, so we're prob the 3000th blog in the blog universe to jump on this but the track's just too good not b3sci-i-fy. Middle-aged Albarn's at his best in the role of crooner and here he coos all over the The xx track breathing a sense of upper middle class loathing that only the cheeky Colchester bloke could. Gorillaz - Crystalised (The xx Cover) Purchase / Info Rating: 8.5

The end of an era. Steve Lamacq 's "In New Music We Trust" Radio1 programme will be broadcasting its last-ever show at 21.00-22.00 later this month. You have two chances left to hear the programme - on 17 August, there will be a session by Sheffield band Crookes (presumably named after the suburb), and on 24 August, Lammo will be hosting the Strange Boys from Austin, Texas. Being on what I consider the wrong side of the pond, in a town where radio stations on the whole are terrible, I get [...]

Fanfarlo have just returned from a big string of dates in the USA at the SXSW festival in Austin and is now taking their strangely-strange-yet-oddly-ho ok-laden pop out on the road for a string of UK dates in support of their debut album Reservoir over the coming months. Catch them at: Thursday 30th April 2009 - Glasgow Hinterland Festival Thursday 14th May 2009 - Brighton Great Escape Sunday 17th May 2009 - Colchester Arts Centre Monday 18th May 2009 - Sheffield Plug [...]
I remember the first time I got this show on tape. It was in high school, 1994, and the tapes probably cost 8 or 9 dollars from this mom and pop store in the city. The shop owner, an old deadhead, would get these n-th generation tapes from his buddy, and sell them in his shop. Well, this one actually sounded pretty good compared to most, and since the dude let me listen to whatever I wanted to, I sort of weeded out the shitty sounding ones before I plunked down the cash. The [...]

We recently spoke to exlovers about their new single amongst other things . This month sees them tour the UK with Emmy The Great and who else but TGTF have been given exclusive access to the tour?? errr.. nobody that's who. The King Blues have announced a tour for April and May around the UK's Student orientated venues. Hailed as "The most exciting live band in Britain." by Kerrang, but when it comes to describing their music The King Blues are a hard to pigeonhole semi-acoustic punk/rap outfit who sound like the Pogues one minute, the Streets the next, or like one of those US pop-punk bands who emerged in the wake of Green Day. Then again, sometimes they might sound like a skiffle band or a ska band, at others like an agit-prop electro-rock act [...]

After the high number of posts over the past two days here at TGTF things are gonna go a bit slower for the next few days, dropping down to a more normal 3 or so posts a day. In the mean time, Patrick Wolf has announced a string of four UK dates for early March which will give people a sneak peek of his forthcoming new album, Battle. He says that those going to the shows should "be prepared for many surprises and new arrangements of the best from the last three [...]
