Coldplay's 16 song set ensured that the Paralympic Closing Ceremony had a musical cohesion that wasn't present during the far more lucid (and frankly not as good) Olympic equivalent. It was their encore however that proved to be truly star studded, as the four Devon boys invited long time pal Jay Z, and recent colloborator and princess of pop Rihanna up on stange for, among other things, this take of 'Run This Town'. Rihanna's vocals sound great, with Chris Martin & co happy to play backing band, and Jay doing what he does best in the [...]

Jay-Z 's getting pretty good at this rock n' roll thing. Last week he closed out his Made In America festival by joining Pearl Jam for "99 Problems." Sunday night (Sep. 9) at Olympic Stadium in London, he took the stage with Coldplay and Rihanna for the Paralympic Games Closing Ceremony. The three acts performed "Run This Town," then Jay stuck around for a verse on Coldplay's hit " Paradise ." Watch the video up top. Jay and RiRi seemed [...]
A couple of weeks ago, we beheld the weirdly moving spectacle of Orbital and Stephen Hawking performing together at the Paralympics Opening Ceremony. The games ended this past weekend, and Saturday night's opening ceremony had a far more conventional big draw: Coldplay, who called in some favors for their set. The band played " Paradise " all by themselves (with a few circus dancers helping out), then wheeled in Rihanna on a pirate ship to help sing " Princess Of China ." And Coldplay also near-inaudibly backed up Jay-Z and Rihanna on a rendition of Jay's "Run This [...]

Coldplay did a damn fine job of the Paralympic Closing Ceremony, unleashing hit after hit.... after hit. One of the highlights was a wonderfully bass-heavy rendition of 'Paradise'. The band clattered through songs such as 'Viva La Vida', 'Yellow', '422, 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall', 'Princess of China', 'Us Against The World', 'Charlie Brown' and 'Up In Flames'. For the encore they upped the ante even further by inviting both Rihanna and Jay Z to join them to play 'Run This Town'. It was pretty big. Download: Coldplay - Paradise (Live at the [...]

Coldplay headlined the Paralympics closing ceremony in London tonight, and they got a little help from their friends. Jay-Z joined the band for a new version of "Paradise" and Rihanna duetted with Chris Martin on “Princess Of China". Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Coldplay also teamed up for "Run This Town". During their rousing concert, the British rockers invited RiRi on stage to perform their Mylo Xyloto collaboration, "Princess Of China," before going into her smash "We Found Love." Jay-Z soon joined the duo for "Run This Town." Once RiRi exited the stage, Coldplay and Jay rocked the stadium with a remix of "Paradise." [...]

For better or for worse, UK-based music magazine NME has rolled out its shortlist of nominees for its 2012 NME Awards. Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Adele each earned noms across the various irreverent categories — some more forgiving than others. ( Born This Way and Under the Mistletoe both came in under Worst Album, oof!) Also scoring nods were newcomers Lana Del Rey and Azealia Banks and awards veterans Coldplay, The Throne and Katy Perry. See the full list of 2012 NME Award nominees below. The winners [...]

Adele and Jessie J are the leading ladies at this year's BRIT Awards after nabbing three nominations apiece, while 20-year-old Halifax, West Yorkshire native Ed Sheeran got the most nods of all, with four. Sheeran's 2011 UK hit "The A Team" will compete with nine other songs in the British Single category — including Adele's "Someone Like You" , Jessie J's "Price Tag" and The Wanted's "Glad You Came" . Ed Sheeran — "The A Team" Adele is also up [...]

Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]

Following on (belatedly) from Eclectic Eavesdroppings Favourite Albums of the year, here are my Favourite Songs of 2011 . Compressing the musical year into a mere twenty-five songs is a tough task for a music junkie like myself. Listing the songs in order of preference is near impossible. But either way, I’ve done my best to get a list together and even though it’s incredibly subjective, it sums up a very good year in music. Stream it as a playlist on YouTube over HERE or download a copy of the whole mix over HERE . [...]

I must start off by saying I was rather disappointed with my personal selection of my favourite albums of 2011. In my opinion I felt that this year for music went through a huge wave of different trends and hits. And those trends were both good and bad. Obviously, it is pretty much impossible for me to listen to every genre that there is out there, so I try my best to listen to everything I can.. when I can. Some of the great things that happened this year was the success of many producers and DJ's that [...]
People love lists. Particularly "best of the year" lists. There's something about putting a quantitative ranking next to a collection of the year's entertainment - the people need to know how things match up against each other. To be honest, I was dreading the creation of these rankings. It's borderline impossible for me to take two albums of completely different genres and try to justify how one is better than the other. In the process though, you re-discover albums from earlier in the year that you loved, but didn't quite give enough time to. This is the summation of that [...]
