Yesterday came the immensly sad news that Adam Yauch, founding member of The Beastie Boys, passed away after three year battle with cancer. A multi-talented man who was loved and respected the world over, Yauch leaves behind a wife and a daughter. The Beastie Boys have made an official statement . Tributes and condolences have been pouring in from across the globe, including musicians and fans. Earlier this week Chris Martin and chums stopped by American Idol to perform a mini-set on the US reality show. Well, they've done X Factor over here, so why not ey? Playing the three monster singles from Mylo Xyloto the performance paints the groups as exactly what they now, a true pop group. Rather bizarrely introduced by J Lo, it's a pretty sweet set. As much as American Idol sucks (if you're reading this and saying, "No! You suck," who are you kidding? Honestly?), it does have good moments here and there. Last night, during the results show was one of those good moments, as Coldplay got on stage to perform both "Paradise" and "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall." Stadium rockers Coldplay showed the amateurs how it's done on last night's American Idol, playing 'Paradise', followed up later with an encore of 'Every Teardrop is a Waterfall'. The appearance was a convenient and timely reminder to the nationwide audience about Chris Martin and company's massive North American tour this summer. Watch both below.

On last night's American Idol results show, Coldplay came through to play a couple of songs and to further extend the agony for the kids who were facing elimination. They did " Paradise " and " Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall ." If you made it through all of last night's interminable Oscars ceremony, you were presumably having some trouble getting to sleep. Thankfully, Jimmy Kimmel had something to help. Whatever you think of them, Coldplay are not exactly the most exciting band on the face of the earth, which probably makes them the ideal band to end Jimmy Kimmel Live! 's special post-Oscars show. Another note worthy performance from last night at The Brits came from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds who put in a performance of their single "AKA... What A Life" and Chris Martin of Coldplay took to piano duties making for an interesting watch and a pretty solid performance. No vocal help from Chris even though it appears like he was singing along in places. Must be a fan. Enjoy it at the top.
