Tweet Listen to and download Superhumanoids ' new song "Geri" from their album "Exhibitionists" . When we first started writing about Superhumanoids it was because of our monster SXSW post, then we threw down an Intro and then we just became a tiny wee bit obsessed with them, offering up anything they'd let us. Though they've been releasing [...]
The LEONARD COHEN's latest long_one is heading in at #2 on the UK charts laters this week and in the name of love the COLD WAR KIDS covered the Canadian he-singer's 'There Is A War' mp3. You watch the video below whilst I was up dinner and head to the Shacklewell Arms to see the TOY live. Bai.

Wikipedia I was having a little trouble coming up with something to say about this week's selection by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds and taken from the 1991 Leonard Cohen tribute album I'm Your Fan , but happily a little plumbing around the tubes of the internet turned up this little piece at chromehorse (chrome solidarity!) that corroborates the bit at Wikipedia on the song. Which is basically that Cave and company got wrecked before recording a marathon-length jam on "Tower Of Song" [...]

This week's annunciation of the Academy Award nominees has me in an award-giving mood. I don't claim our weekly Top Tens are an award, per se, but these tracks did beat out a bunch of others from a week that was stacked with good mp3s, and that's gotta be worth something. When Arctic Monkeys covering Katy B doesn't make the final cut, you know you've got some pretty good candidates. Maybe it was by that same rationale that the academy didn't grace My Week With Marilyn with a Best Picture nod. But some part of me doubts that [...]

This is a very quiet time of the year when it comes to new music. Most major bands don't start releasing material until February or March, so January can be seen as a reflective time. 20112s Top 50 list took me quite a while to finish, but I must say that I'm pretty happy with it overall. Now I find myself wondering what I should be looking forward to in 2012. If the Mayans are to be believed, the world shall be ending sometime in late December. This only leaves 11 more months of new music until mankind is lost [...]
In less than one week, Leonard Cohen 's first album in eight years, titled Old Ideas , is set to be released via Columbia Records. In honour of the music icon, Columbia has gathered together a number of musicians, who are also fans of Mr. Cohen, and brought them into the studio to record a covers series called Old Ideas With New Friends. Courtesy of Filter , we have video footage of Cold War Kid 's cover of Cohen's "There Is A War," a song which they call "striking." Check [...]

Why don't you come on back to the war?

Thursday, January 26, 2012 Today's Quick Mention: I saw the Kills and Jeff The Brotherhood at Stubb's last night. JFB were pretty great. As for the Kills, I thought they were solid. Alison Mosshart looked a little scary, but her voice sounded fantastic ... especially on a stripped down version of Patsy Cline's Crazy. Anyone else go? I've never been a huge Cold War Kids fan, but here and there a track like the one I have today will [...]
I hope news of the Cold War Kids taking their act back to small clubs for multiple nights is the start of a larger trend of artists taking more control keeping them close to their fans. (David Bazan has been doing it with his house show tours notably for years.) Catching them in the old [...]

The success of Indy-based BONESETTERS hinges on their restrained and straight forward songwriting to create a fine balance of fast-paced alt-rock and acoustic indie folk. They stick to the essentials: guitars and drums with catchy vocal hooks. No superfluous effects or over-saturated reverb...a refreshing change in today's indie music scene if you ask us! Their debut album, SAVAGES , came close to never being heard when their previous label Mossback Records folded in early 2011, but with persistence and a successful Kickstarter campaign the band was able to drop [...]

Cold War Kids are soon to head out on their "Minimum tour" on which they'll perform for three nights in three west coast cities. In turn the band have just let loose two new tracks. The tracks are also the first songs new guitarist and former Modest Mouse guitarist, Dann Gallucci First. The first track is titled "Minimum Day" and the second "Minimum Mistake". The latter is a bass heavy track that is a step away from the sons we grew to love on Mine Is Yours but they're both equally tasty as a [...]
In honor of their Minimum Tour, which is three cities at three nights apiece, including Bottom of the Hill in SF 3/5-3/7, Cold War Kids have also added two"minimum" tracks for download. "Minimum Day" is catchy as hell and one...
