M.C. Escher Would Appreciate the Cover of Gorguts’ Colored Sands

On the Horizon: Weathering the Indifference, Survival.

I last week spoke with Parquet Courts, who went on to collectively lament the reality that there are absolutely too many records out there that never pick up the appreciation they so incontrovertibly deserve. Their  Light Up Gold may well have dwindled to become one such record, were it not ignited and allowed to explode late on last year ahead of its international release next month, and we can but hope that the eponymous début release from NYC trio  Survival is afforded a similarly propitious fate. It's the sort of intensely invigorating conflation of elementary math-rock [...]

The $100 Guitar Project

The $100 Guitar Project
On Oct 20, 2010, Nick Didkovsky and Chuck O'Meara bought a $100 electric guitar from Elderly Instruments. They were so charmed by it that they decided to send it to a few of their friends to cut some riffs and create music for a new compilation. Metal shredders like Alex Skolnick, Colin Marston and many ... The post The $100 Guitar Project appeared first on Metal Injection .

Gorguts joins Season Of Mist, adds another future death metal classic to 2013's slate

Years Past Matter: Krallice’s Densest Layer Cake Yet

New York's knottiest black metal band has recorded its most rewarding album to date.

DYSRHYTHMIA’S KEVIN HUFNAGEL: THE METALSUCKS INTERVIEW

For some it may take a few listens to get accustomed, but once given a chance, the realm of progressive metal can be a many splendored thing. Dysrhythmia have always seemed to take the reigns of this beast naturally; bending the genre to their every will, having it hesitate and wait or pounce and attack [...]

Krallice- Years Past Matter

Krallice- Years Past Matter ALBUM REVIEW
On their fourth album, New York black metal outfit delivers roughly the same sound they've been working with for the previous three. However, despite the lack of shockingly new ideas, the band proves to hold a lot of compositional power in the methodically fine-tuned progressive black metal style they've made their calling card. WATCH THE REVIEW

Krallice- Years Past Matter

Years Past Matter by Krallice Black metal experimentalists Krallice release their fourth full-length album, Years Past Matter , and it's definitely a step up from the New York band's last album, Diotima , in my opinion-at least from a production standpoint. Every drum hit and tremolo-picked guitar lead on Years comes through loud and clear. And because of that, the momentum of these tracks feels so much greater. Stream this entire album via the widget above, and enjoy!

Dysrhythmia- “Test of Submission”

Ultra-technical, ultra-progressive madmen Dysrhythmia have a new album on the way from Profound Lore. The title: Test of Submission . The title track is streaming above, the album is looking at an August 28th release date. The band features underground metal icons Kevin Hufnagel (Byla, Gorguts, While Heaven Wept) and Colin Marston (Krallice, Byla, Behold... the Arctopus, Gorguts). The band hasn't released an album since 20092s Psychic Maps , and this new track sounds like we can expect something just as busy, demanding, and detailed.

EXCLUSIVE SONG PREMIERE: DYSRYTHMIA, “TEST OF SUBMISSION”

"Dysrhythmia" is an onomatopoeia of monikers; no other band's name so aptly describes their sound. Their off-kilter skronky noodle stew - created by the Vulcan mind meld trio of Colin Marston (Krallice, Behold... The Arctopus, Gorguts), Kevin Hufnagel (Gorguts, Vaura) and Jeff Eber (his parents) - is often imitated but never replicated; only Dysrhythmia themselves sound [...]

PHOTOS: THE DEATH TO ALL TOUR + GORGUTS AT THE REGENCY BALLROOM IN SAN FRANCISCO, JUNE 22, 2012

The incredibly awesome  Death to All Tour, which reunited surviving Death members Paul Masvidal (above),  Shannon Hamm, Bobby Koelble, Gene Hoglan, Sean Reinert, Steve DiGiorgio, and Scott Clendenin to raise awareness for  Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, kicked off this past Friday night in San Francisco. And MetalSucks' intrepid photographer, Miikka Skaffari, was there to capture the action - along [...]

BONER KILLER ALERT: NOW THE DEATH TO ALL SHOW IN ATLANTA IS POSTPONED, TOO

Yesterday it was announced that the Dallas stop of the upcoming Death to All Tour has been postponed; now the trek's organizers have announced that the Atlanta show has also been put on hold. Not shocking news, given that both of these shows were in danger of being cancelled due to low advance ticket sales, but I [...]

AT LEAST ONE DEATH TO ALL DATE POSTPONED — WILL MORE FOLLOW?

An anonymous reader just forwarded us the below e-mail from Ticketmaster (click to enlarge), announcing that the July 3 date of the Death to All Tour in Dallas, Texas has been "postponed": Although you may recall that both the Dallas and Atlanta stops of the tour were in danger of being cancelled due to low advance [...]

SEAN REINERT IS A TROOPER

POOP. Sean Reinert, the tenth best drummer in modern metal, has ruptured his Achilles' tendon while practicing for the upcoming Death to All Tour. That obviously SUCKS A MAJOR ONE, but the good news is that Reinert is unfuckwithable, and is going to play the tour in some capacity anyway. Here's a statement from the man himself: [...]

LIVE IN DALLAS OR ATLANTA? BUY TICKETS TO THE DEATH TO ALL TOUR NOW

I find this both hard to believe and incredibly depressing, but it's true - the Dallas, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia dates of this summer's Death to All Tour are in danger of being cancelled due to low advance ticket sales. This is the tour, in case you've somehow forgotten, that will reunited seven former members [...]

NINE MORE AWESOME MUSICIANS ADDED TO DEATH TO ALL TOUR, INCLUDING FORMER MEMBER OF, UM, DEATH

OH MY FUCKING LORD, the Death to All Tour somehow just got even more awesome. In case seeing a bunch of old Death tunes being performed by former members of that band (including Paul Masvidal,  Shannon Hamm, Bobby Koelble, Gene Hoglan, Sean Reinert, Steve DiGiorgio, and Scott Clendenin) while being fronted by Obscura’s Steffen Kummerer and Abysmal Dawn's [...]

“DISINTEGORE”: GET CRAZY WITH THIS NEW BEHOLD… THE ARCTOPUS TRACK

It's been nearly five years since the release of Behold... The Arctopus' last full-length, Skullgrid, but that should change soon: the band is readying a new album, called Horrorscension, for release later this year on a label still to be determined (assuming they don't just self-release). And now they've debuted a song from that album, entitled [...]

DEATH TO ALL TOUR ADDS ATHEIST + 2 MORE DATES

If you are either a) sad that this summer's Death to All Tour was only coming to five cities, none of which were anywhere near you, or b) an Atheist, then have I got some news for you. Yeah it's actually all there in the headline. Atheist have been added to the last three dates [...]
