Taylor Powers/Facebook Filed under "We seriously can't make this sh*t up." Taylor Powers, a 21-year-old University of Colorado Boulder undergrad, decided to enjoy nature and all of its wonders on Sunday afternoon. That's when the college student decided to go on a hiking expedition with her roommates in Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado. She also allegedly consumed psychedelic mushrooms too, because nature, the woods and mushrooms all make sense together. According to The Smoking Gun , Boulder County Sheriff's Office deputies and other emergency responders [...]

Jungle Gym. Santiago, Chile We handed the boys in Toro y Moi an old camera + some film from our friends at the Impossible Project and asked them to document their tour for us, and they came through in pretty spectacular fashion. Check out their photos from TX, South America, and elsewhere around the world; all captions/images by the band: Chaz and Earl. Austin, Texas Family. [...]

Weird and quirky, but still a blog favorite, Josephine Foster it's re-releasing her 2001 album recorded in her own home, titled " Little Life". With simplistic yet beautiful sound, Little Life shows the great song writer and all around musician Josephine Foster has been since the beginning. With the re-release in June 11, Little Life will finally have the well deserve exposure it deserves. She has also started her spring tour, so if you are in the path of this wonderful musician go and see her. Josephine Foster - Shay Shay [...]
RIP, Barry Fey. Fey always struck me as a "rock" guy. "Rock" as a general noun where anything that could be rock was a good thing - in the way non-music fans romanticized the word rock without any true context or scrutiny. I abhor that idea of "rock" because it's akin to walking into a museum [...] The post Barry Fey, RIP: A love letter to what Denver has become. appeared first on Your Music Is Awful.com .

This story starts out with a band and a dream. The Boulder, CO based band, The Amends , has aspirations to gain popularity by way of self-promotion. Recently they reached out to see if I would check out their second studio album that was released earlier this year. Fortunately for them, I just started writing again and fortunately for me, I took that chance and gave the album a listen. The Amends consisting of band members Drew Weikart (Lead Vocals and Guitar), Tyler Taylor (Vocals, Keys and Rhythm Guitar), Chris Childress (Bass) and Shay Byington (Drums) caught me off [...]

Whether organic electronica or electronic organica, there's much fruitful hybridity bubbling about at the minute and whether Brad Weber's Pick a Piper or James Cooley's Mesita , it's by and large bloody invigorating stuff. Kingston, the first I've personally heard of Colorado native Cooley and his first in a few months makes for an almost unfeasibly accomplished introduction and as he initially chimes of feeling bitter; distant; vacant in an impeccable croon not dissimilar to that of a given Justin Vernon, he pretty incontrovertibly gets off on the right foot. Though it's once his musical proficiency is [...]

Five years after falling desperately in love with The Midnight Organ Fight , Frightened Rabbit still make my heart race. I am suddenly 17 again and full of FEELINGS. Every moment of inadequacy, every little rejection, and each failure claw their way to the surface for this band. I spent the night like an exposed nerve- on the verge of crying, and most importantly singing my heart out. It was pretty amazing to walk into an already packed Gothic Theater as The Twilight Sad took the stage. It wasn't just the [...]

First few listens of 'XIX' and those Angela McCluskey vocals are the only thing I wanna talk about. Yet like so many other distinct vocalists, they're so hard to put into words. What I will say is that Paper D. & Christian Rich match her sound right with a rhythm that rides well, letting her vocals carry just enough. Plus that future soul theme doesn't hurt, love me some skewed up vocals. One thing I did question is how much Angela's voice is drowned out throughout the song. But to its credit, has worked [...]

THE AMENDS // Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom - Denver, CO 3/24/13 Rising Denver-area blues rock band, The Amends took the stage Sunday night to promote their new album What We Could Be and rocked out to an eager crowd. The four-piece has been picking up steam lately, earning spins on college radio stations and notable reviews from publications such as Reverb . I love the no-frills garage rock sound and catchy tunes. Their new album, What We Could Be ( buy it for $5 on BandCamp! ) shows their [...]

It is pretty well known that I'm wont to pick up and go to a gig across the country. It might be viewed as a challenge to sort out plane tickets, transportation, accommodations, etc... just to see a favorite band one more time. But that is all a walk in the park compared to seeing a favorite band at Keggs and Eggs . Surprising no one, I will tell you that I've never been before. I'm not hugely social. I'm not a fan of huge crowds. Especially huge drunken crowds packed into tiny spaces early in the morning. And [...]

Bobby C has been the go to guy for my Ghetto Funk needs lately and now the label has released a quad-banger of his for all of us. The Bobby C Sound TV EP is comprised mostly of rap & reggae funksters signed with that Bobby C Sound Tv carefree, lazer funk sound. If we only had more Ghetto Funk like Bobby on our radios this wouldn't be such an underground gem. Spread it wide, people. Click here to view the embedded video. [...]
