I waited till 2011 to finalize my albums list - all my lists - partially due to laziness, being busy, the holidays... but mainly because I'm not sure what the hurry is. I don't do this for the web traffic (clearly), so I gave myself a little more time to decide than usual. (And as long as this goes up before the Village Voice' s Pazz n' Jop, I don't feel delinquent.) So here's my list, the top five or so have been a lock for almost half a year, but the rest were in flux right till I [...]
The photo guy has to have his best of list, right? The five photos featured are my favorite moments shooting music this year. I want to share some background about them, what was going on when they happened. These aren't the "best" photos I have taken, but they are all my best memories captured. Thank you, 2011 Live Music, and thank you Austin Town Hall for inviting me to be part of the team. Break it for the rundown and a gallery of other favorites… [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , The Hit List YouTube.com There are plenty of scary music videos out there, but many of them are from artists you'd expect to go the horror route: Marilyn Manson , Nine Inch Nails , Tool , etc. But there are also many videos that are even more unsettling and off-putting, simply because it's unexpected. Whether it's possessed children starring in the clip of an '80s ballad, pop [...]

We caught up with our good friends Colourmusic , who opened for Colour Revolt . Texans Dignan kicked off the night, Colourmusic brought the noise, and Colour Revolt left everyone happy. And when we say Colourmusic brought the noise, we mean it. Colourmusic was about as loud as we can remember anyone ever being at Emo's, and that is saying a lot. Earplugs were complaining to the management. It was awesome. Click the link for pictures. Fun night. Getting [...]

I haven't done this in a while for no reason at all. So, Im gonna to try and get it back up and running with music I like and appreciate. I also wanted to try and link up with Spotify as this appears to be a good way to listen / share music in a easy and truly legal way. Below is a mix I put together for Kansas City Roasterie a few years ago and I came across it today and I really like it. [...]

Prior to the official start of the weekend, you have some tough choices to make on Thursday night and the show at Emo's headlined by Colour Revolt should definitely [...]

Yesterday we woke up to the heartbreaking news that PIAS' London warehouse had been completely burnt down in a wave of wanton, vitriolic rioting that was completely lacking any legitimate political motive. Whilst the wider implications of this thoughtless and respectless behaviour is a problem probably best left to our inept politicians, it has become clear that many of the independent labels that we love are now under severe financial pressure, having had some or all of their physical stock destroyed. Unfortunately for these companies, being insured is not enough. First of all, insurance companies are bastards. That [...]
I'll say a final prayer for those I care for, who kept my company Follow Owl and Bear on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.
Colourmusic is a band that I both love and hate, and doesn't necessarily fit in with most of the music you might expect from Your Music Is Awful, which results in this post being a bit longer than usual. Colourmusic formed in Stillwater, Oklahoma with three band members from Oklahoma (Ryan Hendrix, Nick Ley and Colin Fleishacker) and one from North Yorkshire, England (Nick Turner). (So, I guess that's why they are Colourmusic , with a U, and not, Colormusic). There is a lot to dislike, OK (ha, ha), downright hate about Colourmusic. First, the way most of them look. [...]

Can you believe we're already half way through 2011? Nope, neither can we. The good thing about hitting this landmark is that we can now make a list of our favourite albums released in the first 6 months of the year, and as you probably already know, we love a good list here at The 405. Below you'll find 25 albums (in no particular order) that we love and highly recommend. It's worth noting that a lot of really great albums (The Horrors, Fair Ohs etc) just missed the cut off point for this selection, as [...]

He will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg. Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor. Many Shuvs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Slor that day, I can tell you. (It's a summer jam, of sorts.) [ mix cover image by Marcus Claesson ] July 2011 Mix [...]

Self-dubbed "Oklahoma sex rock" quintet Colourmusic doesn't claim its primary influence to be dream-trip staples like the Flaming Lips, experimental rock gods like Brian Eno or even the band everyone traces their musical roots to: the Beatles. As its name suggests, Colourmusic uses Sir Issac Newton's Theory of Color to guide its melodious ventures. Following [...]

Greetings readers and viewers! Wow, it's good to be back at (the hypothetical) Cluster 1 headquarters. As Media Specialist, sometimes it is required to go to the source and create some of that media ourselves. After a journey to Sasquatch! with our staff, I have returned from shooting videos to finding and posting them here for your viewing pleasure. So, it's good to be back, but make sure you check out all our footage from Sasquatch! as well. Without further adieu…here's what's new. Premieres: W-H-I-T-E – [...]
