Marvel Comics has unveiled a first look at Avengers Vs. X-Men #1. Written by John Romita Jr., the issue kicks off Marvel's long-simmering event as the publisher's two top super-teams come to blows over how to handle the coming of the Phoenix Force and its apparent targeting of Hope Summers as its next avatar. "In the past, the typical Marvel thing when two groups of heroes cross paths was: They would meet, there would be some kind of misunderstanding, and they would fight," writer Jason Aaron told Entertainment Weekly. "Then they would make their peace, and team up [...]

Despite some production delays, the highly-anticipated franchise sequel, The Wolverine, appears to be back on track and now has an official release date of July 26, 2013. To be directed by James Mangold, The Wolverine will follow up 20092s X-Men Origins: Wolverine and finds Logan beginning a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since Logan won't take "no" for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers and Silver Samurai.

Duh. The headline is that 25 years after-the-fact, DC finally decided to snatch the money off the table. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen is the bestselling graphic novel of all time, and there's good reason for it: It's a piece of art with mystery, politics, philosophy, and (of course) action and violence, told using characters with depth and weight. So why do prequels and fuck that all up? Simple. $$$ Yeah, there's a lot of talent attached to the seven 4-issue minis that will each focus on a particular Watchman, but I can't [...]

As a kid, I loved (adored!) Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz's Moon Knight book. It was absolute dark-hero bliss, and everything I wanted Batman to be but, at the time, what Batman simply wasn't. Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev's Moon Knight book is at least the seventh "reboot" of the title since the first one, and now this one is ending at #12. I haven't loved this run, but I haven't hated it, either. And at least it was different. Previous reboots have tried to make the character into various levels of dark/violent/psycho. They haven't all been bad (but [...]

Fox has closed the deal for Matthew Vaughn to return to direct the unnamed X-Men: First Class sequel, working from a script being written by Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand, Jumper, Sherlock Holmes) and with Bryan Singer once again producing. It's a given that all the original cast from the first movie signed a multiple picture deal in their contract so you can expect James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender returning as Professor X and Magneto, respectively.

The master doing his thing. I still think Lee's cameo in Mallrats was the best thing he's ever done outside of, you know, penning some of the greatest comic books ever. [via theaggregate ]
