There's usually a moment – or two – on every Elbow album where the skies open and the seas part and an invincible rush overtakes your ears. Usually, the moments are obvious, like on the 2008 standout One Day Like This , from the Mercury Prize-winning The Seldom Seen Kid . Or Station Approach , the leadoff track from the 2005 album Leaders Of The Free World . Sometimes, these moments can be subtle, which seems to [...]
Gordon Smart reports that Mick Jagger and David Bowie are working on a comedy movie . Oddly, the only mention of David Bowie in the entire report is this: The ROLLING STONES legend penned a script with the help of old pal DAVID BOWIE about a couple of hellraising rock'n'roll managers set in the mid-Sixties. And then, despite a massive photo of Bowie, he's never mentioned again. Perhaps he realised how awful the project sounded and bailed before the third paragraph. Why, you might wonder, is Mick doing this? Gordon has [...]

Just when you thought he actually retired George Michaels comes out with a synth-infused cover of New Order's " True Faith ," a remastered version of his epic album Faith and news on a whole new album! " Somebody said to me, "This album is going to be like a more electronic Faith , because your writing with that directness again." I think there's a lot more joy to put in the writing this time around. Since I've been out as a gay man , house music [...]

the wanted - gold forever ( comic relief 2011 single) [how cute are the wanted boys as they bring out their silly side for the official single of comic relief 2011 (plus they keep on kissing each other at the end, which just continues the wanted sweetathon lovefest)! oh and the song if pretty darn good too!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld

George Michael is set to release a cover of New Order's "True Faith" on March 13, 2011 to raise money for Comic Relief . Seems a bit of a left-field choice for Michael, but New Order's (ex) own Peter Hook has given his slightly backhanded blessing, saying, "It blew me away when I heard it. Not exactly to my taste, but it did blow me away." New Order's original single was released back in 1987- the same year that George Michael stormed the American charts with a slew of hits off his Faith album.
Filed under: News , New Music PA Photos George Michael is lending his support to this year's Comic Relief by releasing a cover of New Order 's 'True Faith.' As is traditionally the case, a star-packed video is expected to accompany the single which is set for release digitally on March 13 and physically the following day. Michael is no stranger to Comic Relief, which this year falls on March [...]

Well that was fast! British boy band The Wanted are already finished promoting their self-titled debut album? Sad! I think there might have been a few more hits on that record but what do I know? The boys are prepping for the release of their new single, " Gold Forever ," due March 13th . " Gold Forever " has been selected as this year's Comic Relief charity single. Listen to the single BELOW . Starting out like your run-of-the-mill boy [...]

Hot off the release of their sensational third single "Lose My Mind," the men of The Wanted are back with a brand new beat: "Forever Gold," pegged as the official charity single for 20112s Comic Relief . For those unfamiliar, Comic Relief is a yearly British national charity event dedicated to assisting the disadvantaged across the UK and Africa that centers around a major telethon night, Red Nose Day . Each year, one song is selected as the lead single for the campaign, such as 20072s legendary Girls Aloud / Sugababes [...]

Considering Tony Clifton is the alter ego of the late comedian Andy Kaufman , it's a little weird to hear that he'll be playing the 25th anniversary of the birth of Comic Relief at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 16. Considering the general weirdness of Kaufman through the years, Clifton's recent rising from the dead is far from unusual. From the press release: Tony Clifton, alter ego of comic genius, Andy Kaufman, will be returning to The Comedy Store for a monumental, special performance on Sunday, May [...]

An hour and a bit later, all bearings scattered across page 46 of the Somerset mapped countryside, the sci-fi marquee that will no doubt trigger horrific imagery in the minds of a fair few this weekend arises from the shoreline. Its magnificence is tremendous but in the loosest possible sense of the word. Minehead is certainly a sight to behold; the magnates of commercialism man the fort on the outskirts and taboos are broken left, right and centre with not one visit to the dreaded McDonalds but three. Tesco, for its part, drags us out of a tight spot (personified [...]

TV highlight of the year? And did you know that the original sequence wasn't performed by Jennifer Beals but by several people including Crazy Legs , a chap who was part of Rock Steady Crew . Jennifer Beals love interest in Flashdanc e was played by Michael Nouri who curently plays Patty Hewes husband on scary old legal drama Damages . The soundtrack for Flashdance (which I [...]
Click here to view the embedded video. Thinking about that Elmo clip , made dig around for some other funny Gervais bits. Here Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant asked to permit the staging of an operatic version of The Office to raise money for Comic Relief. Would you pay to see to see an operatic version of The Office? Yes, yes you would. [via Oh No They Didn't ]
So, not only did last night's Comic Relief raise the sort of sums that only Fred Goodwin could dream of, but actually managed to be consistently entertaining throughout. Normally, by pub-chucking-out-time, they're scrabbling about to give you "another chance to see" stuff that had already played out earlier; this year, they had so much stuff they hadn't even got round to The Apprentice firing by midnight. Even the French and Saunders bit was funny, and that's something you've not been able to say for the best part of a decade and a half. There was the puzzle of [...]

Comic Relief last night was disappointing and amazing at the same time. It was great that they raised so much money £50+ million but the comedy was a bit lacking. I thought the sketch by Smithy with the England Team was great but other than that I hardly laughed. I'm glad i donated at the start of the night otherwise I might have changed my mind. Elbow performed a track that not everyone is familiar with, it's the last track of their previous album, Leaders of the Free World. I thought it was quite fitting rather than singing [...]
fuck me do i hate comic relief. i find it obscene. a sop to our collective conscience. i resent being made to feel like a cross between james hewitt and hitler for stating this opinion, for turning my nose up at the phalanx of bucket weilding happyclappers invading my personal space with japes, stunterry, shit jokes and [...]

Charity records have long history of being naff. Obviously putting out a credible song isn't really the point of such records and ultimately the greater cause outweighs the crimes against pop (I still have a copy of Live Aid 20 gathering dust and unused) However, novelty though this is: it does indeed provide comedic relief. Fans of BBC's Gavin and Stacey will be well acquainted with Rob Brydon and Ruth Jones (better known here as Bryn West and Nessa Jenkins) and the barn [...]
Phew, that was lucky, eh, James Walsh? Starsailor have effectively swerved the risk of playing Glastonbury : STARSAILOR's JAMES WALSH is pleased his band won't be playing. The singer says the huge stars the festival attracts makes it harder for smaller acts to get noticed. James says: "Glasto is about headliners. Smaller acts often don't even get a mention." Yes, with the three BBC TV channels, two radio networks, about six online music services and acres of pop press coverage, year-in, year-out, it's almost impossible for anyone other than the headline [...]
Gordon, of course, should be half-way up a mountain with Gary Barlow and a couple of Girls Aloud right now, but he's had to pull out because of family illness. Which, genuinely, you have to respect him for: there are too many journalists who would have put the ultimate in social climbing ahead of family. It's worked out well for The Sun, too, as it means they've got Gary Barlow doing the coverage instead, which has to be a better box office draw. The question, of course, is if Gary can turn out the [...]
