I don't write about compilations much on the hill, but when I do, I prefer they be from Urbnet . Ha, I just most interesting-man-in-the-world'd you, and you didn't see it coming, so well done me, very current reference there for sure. But seriously, I've said this before and I'll keep on saying it, if you're looking for a way to keep tabs on some of the most talented hip hop and urban artists in Canada, then you need to check with Urbnet . I've always tried to post on their Underground Hip Hop compilation [...]

I only first knowingly experienced cumbia last year when Kasey and I visited Colombia. It was everywhere we went. In the tropical wall-ringed Cartagena, for example, rhythmic, Caribbean-inspired cumbias spilled out of small clubs packed full of late night revelers into the early hours of morning. But Cumbia wasn't limited to the coast. In Bogota, when I dragged Kasey to a dusty, local record store slightly off the beaten path and asked the owner what traditional Colombian music he recommended, he produced a foot and a half tall pile of cumbia records. He'd play the records one by one while [...]

Kitsune always put out so much great music. They have a new compilation ' Parisien II ' showcasing emerging artists from this amazing city and beyond coming out February the 13th. The first track from it is "So Long My Love" by Tomorrow's World . A new side project from Air's Jean-Benoit Dunckel and Lou Hayter the keyboard player from New Young Pony Club . Love both those bands so it's no surprise this new track is pretty fantastic. Check out the soundcloud below and [...]

firstly, i was really surprised to see that cmj was still around, but it doesnt appear they actually are in the magazine business - the old business model. i subscribed for years from maybe like 93ish to maybe 2000? anyway, happy to see they're still around even though they've been really out of my brain since the end of my subscription. i knew they still did the cmj conference thing, but thought that may be in name only. either way.. its interesting to see who they, or the labels in this case capitol was pushing back in 03. most surprising [...]

Some compilations are to please others and some are to please us. This one's to please both. It's February and the winter's getting ready to say bye, this, taken into consideration, has given birth to a mixture of flavors that appear on this compilation. It has its loud beats, but also its simmering slow numbers. Another one of those compilations that caters to everyone. Although it encapsulates many different genres, only the tracks that get our approval were allowed onto the disc. Huesome meanders into all nuanced genres we visit fairly often here. Many of our favorite tracks [...]

REID has reworked two songs he debuted from his repertoire and will release them on Blah Blah Blah on February 20. But 'Ver' is the first proper, 100 per cent new track we've heard from the Cork artist/producer since that fantastic debut EP last summer. It's going to feature as [Read more]

Young house and techno producer Maya Jane Coles will be mixing the next DJ Kicks compilation. As one of the leading female producers of current times and winner of the recent DJ Mag 'Best Producer' award it offers a sense of logic to hand the reigns over to the 24-year old for the !K7 compilation. The mix will also feature an exclusive track "Not Listening" that only heightens our excitement for this to drop! Previous mix-ers include Motor City Drum Ensemble, Scuba, Gold Panda, Wolf + Lamb vs Soul Clap and plenty [...]

The 7th of February is an important day for hip-hop. In 1974 J Dilla was born in Detroit, United States, whilst on the same day and the same year Nujabes was born in Tokyo, Japan. Who could have known on that day what a great gift was being handed to music lovers across the globe, with hip-hop still in it's infancy, two of it's greatest children had just been born. Not only would their talents remain bound through a shared love for progressive hip-hop, but even their deaths became symbolically linked as they both passed in the month of February. [...]

The music blogosphere might seem like a cut-throat world of trolling and generally taking the piss - but behind the many personalities lies a pretty cool community of like-minded individuals - where we try, most of the time, to support each others endeavours. With many of the world's best blogs branching out into all spheres of the music world, it's great to see Electronic Rumors release a real compilation on where the artists actually get paid. Many people see bloggers as unscrupulous mp3-barrons, but we want to see artists succeed just as much as their respected labels and [...]

We're very proud to present our 1st Moombahton compilation. We've been fans of Moombahton since it started as one man's hobby (we see you Dave) and turned into a worldwide phenomenon. What's special to to us with Moombahton, it's its impact on the dancefloors, we've always incorporated Moombahton to our danchall / reggaeton / riddim sets and til this day we see Moombahton more as a black music with roots in island music, with a twist of modern day dance music (and those big kicks and basses that go whoomph). This compilation features excellent up and coming talent as well [...]

Kevin Greenspon – "X.A. Assembly" Blog bud/ Bridgetown Records founder Kevin Greenspon has done something characteristically awesome and made his 65-minute, limited release-collecting Paradise A.D. compilation available to the public as a digital freebie . Back in June I posted the positively chilly "City Breeze" , and now you can feast upon "X.A. Assembly" (originally from the Rose Window cassette), which hits with a soothing salve of plaintive [...]
At the beginning of January , I fell in love with the music of Evian Christ at first listen. The young London-based producer just has a really creative approach to beatmusic; incorporating elements of hip hop, ambient music, and various sounds from the latest electronic music trends in the UK. I wasn't the only one who felt that way, though. Evian received quite a bit of blog buzz for the handful of tracks he had anonymously uploaded to a YouTube channel not too long ago. Thanks to the uproar, Evian has now [...]
