Zola Jesus revealed the new video for the gothic-pop track Seekir from her 2011 album Conatus . The video was directed by filmmaker, Jacqueline Castel . According to her, she "always loved how Nika embraces both the avant-garde and bubblegum pop with Zola Jesus, and wanted to find a way to explore these dualities in her music and merge the worlds of the experimental and the mainstream." You can watch the blinding video below.
Everything about Zola Jesus 's Conatus speaks to an other-wordly mystique, from the glitched-out tribal rhythms to the apocalyptically-tinged synthesizers. It's a tone that Sacred Bones ' resident filmmaker Jacqueline Castel tapped when conceptualizing what a video for album highlight "Seekir" might look like. Speaking with Dazed Digital , Castel explains that "like any great pop song or video, the goal was to communicate complexity through simplicity." The result is something along the lines of a dance party for clairvoyants, mixing classic choreography with bold cinematography, fitting with Zola Jesus' own aesthetic perfectly. +MP3: [...]

Electro-industrial pop extraordinaire Zola Jesus just dropped the video for her dark dance track "Seekir," off her 2011 release Conatus . Directed by Jacqueline Castel , the video weaves us through a metaphysical puzzle filled with symbolism and dancing white-robed figures. Check it out: Click here to view the embedded video. Conatus is out now on Souterrain Transmissions .
If you haven't yet seen Zola Jesus live you should make it a point to do so, it's a spectacle of pure, raw emotion and unbridled energy. It comes across in her music all the time, though it's less easy to capture in her videos but she sure does give it a shot, this time through interpretive dance whilst she's up in Heaven for her Conatus track "Seekir" , directed by Jacqueline Castel. Zola Jesus nos presenta el video de "Seekir", el último sencillo de Conatus , su tercera producción que salió a finales del año pasado. Enjoy. ♩ Zola Jesus - Seekir

Canonised within the realm of luscious pastures and Pyramid Stages that is Worthy Farm , the headlamps of Sevenoaks bros Phil and Paul Hartnoll (known to iTunes and Other Stage aficionados as Orbital ) have lamentably never shone quite so bright outside of Somerset. However that gently disheartening and slightly dim reality may be about to be radically torched by the emergence of eighth studio LP Wonky , a record that witnesses the duo named after much-lambasted motorway the M23 accelerate toward an inordinately greater cultural relevance. [...]

Zola Jesus at The FADER Fort at SXSW (03/15/12) Photo : Chris Becker Given her recent stint on the cover of The FADER #76 , it was no big surprise that Nika Danilova (aka Zola Jesus ) nabbed a prime spot at this year's FADER Fort at SXSW . After Nite Jewel’s dance jams led into Teengirl Fantasy’s set, Zola closed out Day 2 at The Fort on a high note with a big-voiced, barefoot performance, which ended with her wailing on the [...]

David Lynch is planning on directing Zola Jesus' music video for "In Your Nature"...just kidding, Lynch thinks he's a musician now, and instead of using his directing talent, he has remixed the Conatus track "In Your Nature". However, the only piece still intact from the original song is Nika Roza Danilova's vocals. Lynch replaced the original track's strings with guitar and drum parts, written and performed by himself and engineer Dean Hurley. It's better than it has every right to be. Everything about Conatus is massive. Nika Roza Danilova began her Zola Jesus project steeped in industrial and gothic tones, conjoined with a classical upbringing in the world of opera and studies in philosophy. Her early releases demonstrated that she was a force to be reckoned with, but when held up to Conatus they feel like nothing more than warning shots. It's a record that kicks in the door from the moment the needle drops. A concussive blast of powerful, near-tribal rhythms and glitchy mechanical textures, augmented by the authority of Danilova's scarred vocals have turned her project away from its [...]

Some artists make much more sense in the live setting, take for example Erika M. Anderson’s ( EMA to you and I) album “ Past Life Martyred Saints.” Whilst showcasing her many talents as a songwriter it’s only when you see her perform the album live you realise how it singularly failed to covey this girls charisma and the visceral nature of the music. Her set at Liverpool’s Kazimier was nothing short of epic, throwing herself so completely into each song she almost became a woman possessed. Suddenly the album took on a whole new dimension, mixing [...]

You know an album is good when it grows on you with every listen. The same can be said about certain musicians with every time you listen to one of their songs. Both are how I feel about Zola Jesus and her latest album Conatus . From the very first time I heard about Zola Jesus I was intrigued. Not just because of her awesome name, but because of what she sounded like. Around 2009 I first heard about Zola Jesus when my indie and hipster friends told me to check [...]

Tweet Over the last few months you've no doubt heard us wax lyrical about how good the new album Zola Jeus is. If you haven't heard us gush, allow me to remind you. Her unique vocal style is akin to The Knife doing opera, her sound is emotive, raw, industrial, and oozing with passion. Album tracks "Vessel" and "Seekir" got [...]
Zola Jesus Get More: Zola Jesus , MTV Hive Watch Zola Jesus perform "Vessel" on Yours Truly from her recent release, Conatus
“Conatus” is a term used by the Dutch philosopher Spinoza, most famous for his work “Ethics,” to describe the drive in all animals to stay alive. So it makes sense that Nika Roza Danilova, the one woman driving force behind Zola Jesus, who grew up in the Merrill, Wisconsin woods eating wild game, should choose that as the title of her latest album. There is a dire chilliness to the tracks on “Conatus” which reminded me of Ayn Rand, of a forceful individualism impeded by society. The name Zola Jesus fits into that aesthetic as well. Zola was [...]
Conatus is the third release from 22-year-old Russian-American singer-songwriter Zola Jesus (a.k.a. Nika Roza Danilova). The title refers to an inate desire for self-development and reflects Zola's interest and education in philosophy. Zola's childhood training in opera seems to have also influenced the grandeur and scope of her dark and entrancing pop songs. The dramatic [...]
