Originally, I thought Tom Williams and the Boat were a folk band, but when I finally got round to listening to their album Too Slow, I realized the band takes its unique sound from many influences; from Radiohead to the Pixies and Bob Dylan. The band have gained praise from many in the industry and have gained a solid base of fans, notably Steve Lamacq and Zane Lowe. The next track to be released by the band off it's debut album is the wonderfully intricate and complicated 'Concentrate', to my surprise a song based on the [...]
Tom Williams & The Boat - Concentrate by Mud Hut Digital Here's a triumphant British indie-rock song by a band called Tom Williams & The Boat. I've been off to a slow start this Monday morning after a great weekend with my mom in town. I apologize for the short hiatus from blogging - a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. I'll be back at it this week. Here's our first take. Tom Williams takes a crazy path lyrically - he imagines the thoughts and motivations of a home-grown suicide [...]
Nina Persson's solo project A Camp has fallen hard onto its face twice. Both album A Camp and Colonia were lackluster efforts that are not worth the bargain bin, and I am being nice. This is the latest single, also not the best track from the album like "Here Are The Animals." It's not worth it's video and I am surprised that someone who has peaked at #213 on the UK Albums chart can still sustain a career. Maybe she's big in Sweden. But, in all seriousness, she should return to the Cardigans and concentrate on that. Posted in [...]
I have to say that I was very happy to hear that Dog Day had added this instore performance to their list of things to do when they came to Toronto last week. It was looking ever more likely that I was not going to be able to attend the show at Lee's Palace on Thursday night, so this was definitely an unexpected treat. Also unexpected was the fact that they put on a fairly charged performance. Oddly enough, there are people out there who just seem happier being sad. I've never understood it myself, but [...]
A quick Dog Day scan on the net reveals that the critics already get it when it comes to this band. I'm just wondering what everybody else's problem is? They may be the furthest cry from being a household name as you can get for many, but their last album Night Group was one of my most played albums of 2008, and the only reason it didn't make my year end list is due to the fact that it actually came out in April 2007 and I just found out about it too late. While that [...]
