photography by benjamin hoste Crystal Antlers gave a stunning performance at The Echo Wednesday night which included percussionist Damian Edwards thrashing about stage, knocking over microphones and drums, landing in the audience and abruptly leaving mid song with two songs left in their set.

"We bite, but it feels like a kiss." An off-hand piece of banter from the Felice Brothers ' drummer seemed to sum up the night's performance nicely. Equal parts The Band , Buckwheat Zydeco and Johnny Knoxville , the Felice Brothers brought their brand of down-home Americana to the Independent for a two-night stand in support of 2009's Yonder is the Clock . The band's debut, Technicolor Health , is an easy pick for a lofty perch on my year-end list - it's full of dorky, exuberant, hide-and-seeking indie rock gems that sounded equally great live. Sold-out shows at the Echoplex are typically fraught with peril thanks to long lines even hours after "doors," belligerent security and more belligerent Pitchfork-reading frat/alt bros, and Passion Pit's gig was no exception.
