Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Liam the Younger is the project of Liam Betson, a man who's spent some time playing with his friends, Titus Andronicus . But, that's about all he shares, or at least his music shares, with his friends, as After the Graveyard is a stripped down affair of bedroom folk tunes. It's just now being released by Underwater Peoples , after being stored [...]

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Once again, Liam Betson is the man behind the recent Liam the Younger releases. This is his second album under the moniker, finally seeing release (on the same day as the first) after being stored away, then shared with a few friends along the way. While his association with Titus Andronicus is probably an easy point for critics to point at, there's definitely something else going on beneath this set of songs, all of which benefit from an expanded [...]

Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band have announced a new CD/DVD release entitled One Of My Kind . The CD/LP package will include 11 outtakes from the recording sessions of 20092s Outer South as well as the DVD version of the previously released documentary of the same name. I'm crossing my fingers these are proper studio recordings, because if we're lucky enough to get a studio recording of the title track, that alone is worth the pre order price. The release is slated to drop May 15th via Team [...]

Almost three years ago, shortly after Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band had released their second album, Outer South , an hour-long documentary about the creation of the album called One of My Kind was released for free on to the internet. Now, the band is releasing the final cut of the documentary on DVD along with a bonus CD of outtakes. The final version of the film has the full title One of My Kind: The Story of the Mystic Valley Band and is, by Team Love's own admission "one for [...]
A primeira é Lenders in [...]
Video: Conor Oberst (Live in Omaha) With Bright Eyes now a marquee act at high-capacity theaters the world over, opportunities to catch Conor Oberst performing an intimate set — like, say, this Halloween 2003 tribute to Elliott Smith in a bookshop — have become increasingly rare. Enter Krug Park , a new Omaha bar owned by an Oberst buddy who recruited his famous friend to anoint the small space last week. Thanks to videographer Jonathan Tvrdik (via NJ Underground ), we have a fine multi-camera peek at two songs from the show. Watch [...]

This week's annunciation of the Academy Award nominees has me in an award-giving mood. I don't claim our weekly Top Tens are an award, per se, but these tracks did beat out a bunch of others from a week that was stacked with good mp3s, and that's gotta be worth something. When Arctic Monkeys covering Katy B doesn't make the final cut, you know you've got some pretty good candidates. Maybe it was by that same rationale that the academy didn't grace My Week With Marilyn with a Best Picture nod. But some part of me doubts that [...]

The musicians feel the law would send a "message to the world that Nebraska is not forward thinking or welcoming." According to The Omaha World-Herald , Oberst and the [...]

Back in 2008, the Swedish sister duo of Johanna and Klara Söderberg, who perform and record as the First Aid Kit , became indie-rock viral video sensations when they posted a clip of themselves in a forest, decked out in flannel, performing an enchanting acoustic version of the Fleet Foxes' Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. The video has since been viewed a staggering 2.6 million times. As a result of the YouTube clip, the sisters, who had released an EP on a Swedish label in April of that year, were signed to the London-based Wichita Records, who re-released [...]
The last few years have certainly had its fair share of emotional ups and downs for Simone Felice . In 2009, the singer-songwriter parted ways with The Felice Brothers, revealing the heart-tugging reasons for the break with a public open letter to his fans. Then in 2010, Felice underwent open heart surgery. All this hasn't slowed Simone down, as he has continued to write (both music and prose), record and tour, and come 2012 he will release his self-titled debut album via Conor Oberst's Team Love label. The largely self-produced, ten-track record, which will hit stores on [...]
Conor Oberst oversaw the evolution of Bright Eyes over the past 10 years offering a series of constantly changing albums which displayed the frontman's outstanding ability to write a pop song in his many evolving guises. Hardcore fans may have been left disheartened by the apparent refusal to return to what brought Bright Eyes to the limelight in [...]

"City Of Ice" , Br'er's sophomore album, is a follow-up to 20072s "Of Shemales And Kissaboos" , and is released via label Edible Onion on November 22nd. It's fearless, dark, challenging, and sentimental. This is the most challenging article I have written, about music that at its soul is uncompromising and willing [...]
