Record label and music collective earSnake , and its leading symphonic virtuoso Michael McDermott who is better known as Mikronesia are no strangers to using multi-media to weave art into their elaborate soundscapes. So it should come as no surprise to anyone in the know that Mikronesia has been hard at work on a multi-media opera for the past 15 years. The end result Pangaea: When The Continents Were One debuts at the Rotunda tonight and conjures up a tale of new mythology about the first humans who lived on the [...]

Okay, this is one of those days that nearly paralyzes one with the sheer possibilities. It's Halloween here in the USA, and it's also Samhain, the anniversary of the assassination of Ghandi, the eve of Dia de los Muertos / All Saints Day, and the birthday of Vanilla Ice. Okay, we're not going to spend any time celebrating that last one. But the others are all viable, leading me to near choice-freeze when thinking about writing today. What's keeping me from locking up completely was the great listener response to last Friday's episode of Spin [...]

After a long and arduous journey I parked our van in front of the address the group had provided. I'll admit that the location was a little spooky, even in broad daylight. We were a couple of miles outside of New York City proper, and there were only a few mid-size industrial buildings around to break up the landscape. Additionally, the squat one story building my camera crew and I were parked in front of appeared to be the only one currently inhabited. I honked the van's horn to formally announce our presence. [...]

Here is the brand new ep Spiriting from our band Continents. The band is the work of multi-instrumentalist Jim Button. On recordings Jim does all the instruments and then live he is backed by Rusty Scott and Casey Burge(Minden). The song The Perfect Circle was originally featured on Yvynyl . Which described it as: His sound is honest psych-rock, a treasure trove of ear kissing-licks with just the right amount of spaced-out weirdness. You can buy his new ep Spiriting here for $5 before its available on itunes or anywhere else: [...]

Continents - The Perfect Circle Continents is the musical undertaking of Kansas City native Jim Button. Button began writing in the summer of 2008, creating, and recording the material that would eventually become his debut entitled Land of Plenty. This summer he released his followup EP, Spiriting. Continents sound is that of a psychedelic hazy trip, an ethereal journey crafted that to me is reminiscent of Beck. Check out the Perfect Circle and grab the EP, Spiriting .
Jim Button's experimental psych-pop rock is for fans of Pavement, Slow Loris and good music in general. The Kansas City based Continents recently released Spiriting, an album that's both hazy and infectious. If you're new to Button's band you should hear his self released debut Land of Plenty (rereleased 2010). It established him as a musician with very strong song writing skills, which Spiriting further confirms. Button records every instrument on his albums, and distributes them himself. I spoke to him about being an independent artist, the new album and playing live. Check out the sample of Spiriting at [...]

PREMIERE: Continents - The Perfect Circle I discovered the music of Kansas City's Jim Button when my bro Nathan Reusch from The Record Machine called his first Land of Plenty EP one of the most under-rated albums of the year back in 2008. I agreed. His sound is honest psych-rock, a treasure trove of ear kissing-licks with just the right amount of spaced-out weirdness. Fast forward to today where I'm stoked he's dropping a new set of songs called Spiriting . I'm honored to bring [...]

I never much mention the news. I figure we all get enough of it, but I was taken with the President's speech formally acknowledging the death of Osama Bin Laden. I immediately had two reactions. One was gladness and relief, but the other was the memory of the Hydra. That last one scares me. Today is much like yesterday: warm in the sun and chilly in the shade. It's a typical spring day on Cape Cod. Leaves have finally appeared on many of the trees, and they're a light green like new leaves always are. Only the oak [...]

Leslie Sisson It was a sad day in late 2005 when Austin's American Analog Set called it a day, or it would have been if they had bothered to officially do so. They announced prior to touring their last (as in most recent, not final) record Set Free that it would be their final tour before a hiatus, and that while they didn't have any plans to do anything else together, be it recording or playing or whatever, they weren't ruling out the possibility. And they invoked the [...]

Eleven Continents RF & Lili De La Mora teamed up in 2007 to create this delicate and gentle album that never captured the attention it deserved. So I thought I would share it and who knows... Through The Trees Listen/Buy Eleven Continents
