I'm writing this to you while trying to piece together the past few days and simultaneously fighting off a killer headache. SXSW is complete chaos in the best of ways, with thousands joining together to endure 16 hour days and the inevitable loss of your personal belongs/sobriety. For me it was a chance to be completely immersed in concerts surrounded by my favorite people in music all while wearing shorts. I definitely lied to get into at least one show, and learned that three glasses of water and a red bull vodka will cure almost anything that ails you. Here [...]

A few weeks ago , AbdeCaf contributed a mix to The 4052s Plastic Platform series that revealed an affinity for Clams Casino, Drake, and The Weeknd. Now, the Florida-based producer has returned with another choice selections of cuts exclusively for Consequence of Sound as he preps for his stint as DJ-in-residence at our CoSigns day party at South by Southwest . Included in the mix is a song born from a previous CoSigns event. At this past fall's CMJ Music Marathon, I stood in the crowd next to AbdeCaf as Conveyor [...]
We're ending this week with a video for Conveyor for their song "Woolgatherer."

Similar to our weekly collection of MP3s , we decided to start ranking each week's best videos. So, from here on out, our favorite weekly videos will be ordered in quality from 10-1. Who reigns champ this week? Grab some popcorn, sit back, and find out. 10. CHVRCHES – “Recover” Synth-pop meets J.J. Abrams style visuals in CHVRCHES' video for “Recover”. While it doesn’t tell the most fascinating story, or really any story for that matter, it’s still gorgeous to look at. The Recover EP is out [...]

Taken from Conveyor 's self-titled, debut album , "Woolgatherer" serves as a fine opener not only to the record, but also to the wacky world of the Brooklyn-via-Florida band. However, I'm going to be honest here: I've got no idea what's happening in this video. Sensual without being sexual, the video seems to be some kind of interpretive dance, complete with back massages, hands, elbows, and slow movements. It seems to be some kind of play on objectifying the male body, according to Pretty Much Amazing . Like I said, no clue what's [...]
"Woolgatherer" is the new single from the Brooklyn art-rock ensemble Conveyor's just-released self-titled record , and we're psyched to premiere its video, courtesy the director Matthew Thompson . Basically, we wish more music videos were so fearless when it comes to objectifying the male body (note to all other video directors out there), and the vaguely creepy, idiosyncratic, fragmented vibe perfectly suits the song's endearing, layered freak-folk energy. Check it out. Conveyor Tour + SXSW Dates: 3/9/2013 - Louisville, [...]

Another goodtime partytime, folks. Be sure to stop by and give everyone hugs while they fill your ears with love. Austin is going to be so much fun this year! smallplates : We are pleased to announce our 2013 SXSW showcase, thrown with our favorites Father/Daughter Records and Gold Robot Records . It’s gunna be a helluva time! RSVP .

If you're still wondering what sex would sound like if it were music, then presumably you haven't taken the time to listen to Night Panther yet. Now would be the perfect opportunity, as they've just released their latest track, "Lioness" . It makes me want to shout "release the synth" in my best Liam Neeson voice. We can expect a video to accompany it in the next few days, and if it's anything like as epic as their previous 12-minute effort for "Fever" then it should be [...]

You've been asking us if we'll be down in Austin, Texas for SXSW this year. Well, the answer is "hell yes we'll be in Austin!" It seems as if the slow build up to the year's most important/fun music conference/festival has, in two days, become a tidal wave of excitement and nerves. Having worked on putting together this party for the last months, we are extremely proud to share the lineup and invite you to this year's The Beehive down at SXSW, a party made possible by KOHLER and their new [...]

This year will be my first at SXSW. I'm excited to see what will happen, but I'm even more excited to be a part of a great party/showcase. My buddy Zach over at the incredible We Listen For You is teaming up with sonaBLAST! to give us one hell of a free unofficial party. The show will feature an acoustic set from Rod Argent & Colin Blunstone of The Zombies, Et Tu Brucé, Dent May, Nerves Junior, Shugo Tokumaru, The Pass, Royal Bangs, Conveyor, and Miracles Of Modern Science. Hip Hatchet & Christopher Denny [...]

Poster by the wonderful @kennybloggins RSVP More details, full band profiles, and much more to be featured on WLFY in the next few weeks. Can't wait to see you in Austin!

It's been a pretty exciting day in the PGR camp! Check out this feature in one of our favorite blogs, Pigeons & Planes, naming Paper Garden Records one of "25 Independent Record Labels You Should Know". http://pigeonsandplanes.com/20 13/02/best-independent-record- labels/s/paper-garden-records- 2/ Share:

Well, it took a bit longer than expected (losing your job in November and having a baby in January will disrupt the blog-writing process a bit), but Given and Taken in Ink's list for best albums of 2012 is finally here. This year, a handful of bands came out of nowhere and blew me away. I knew right away that debut albums from Drew Smith and The Rest would stand among the best releases of the year. They are joined by 28 other great albums, by artists well-known and obscure. I'm pleased that GTI's 2012 list is a [...]

Indie, indie... what an exquisite word! These days so many bands call themselves "indie rock" even if they sound nothing like indie rock (before we ranked this category we had to filter out all the songwriters and straight rock bands who tried to re-brand themselves as "indie" - WE CAUGHT YOU!). Of course, the word originates from "independent" - not "Indian" like your clueless friends often assume - but it's been used since the 80's to describe "non-mainstream" rock music (and record labels). Think tense and/or dark and/or experimental-ish mostly guitar based rock. Needless to say, in the late aughts [...]

Four-piece indie band Conveyor may have left the heat of Florida for the colder Brooklyn NY, but they carried a warm sound with them. These quirky indie rockers dabble in pop melodies, folk harmonies, and electronic beats, with a light-hearted experimental rock result. They came in first in our indie rock open submissions with an average rating of 7.83, after enjoying a year filled with Deli coverage !

My top ten for the year, with a brief explanation/comment. Enjoy & Happy New Year! ...... 1. Grizzly Bear – Shields The guys in Grizzly Bear killing it, once again. This record is almost perfect. The compositions are strange & beautiful, and they complement the haunting singing styles of Ed Droste and Daniel Rossen. If you didn’t get this album – you missed (but there's still time!). Check Out: Yet Again [mp3] [...]

This year was much more of a songs year for us... probably having more to do with our listening habits than any lack of noteworthy albums (there are plenty) or any ominous "death of the album" that's been prophesied for at least a half decade now. Nope... We're just a songs blog, by and large. We listen almost exclusively to songs from new bands we're considering writing about. So hopefully this list will open your ears to some great songs you may have missed and reinforce the awesomeness of the ones you already know and love: [...]
