We are still reeling off of the devastation that REM's breakup has caused. We loved them until the last album. We were just jiving to "Uberlin" the other day. "Everybody Hurts" has been covered many times from acts like The Corrs to more. This one is in tribute to the band's great 31-year-old career . So sad. Related articles How R.E.M.
Former Corrs frontwoman Andrea Corr is ready to launch her second solo album named Lifelines on May 30th, 2011. This is the first single off of it. Her last solo job had some nice tunes, but mostly filler. Let's hope for more. Filed under: Beats , Clip , Ire Tagged: album , andrea , corr , new , single , tinseltown in the rain

Trying to recall St. Patricks' Days past is always a hazardous endeavor. If you can't remember one for some, ah, reason ... then you can't remember any! For the past seven years or so St. Paddy's Day shenanigans have gotten a little mixed up for me. That's because it always falls in the middle of SXSW madness - the beer always flowed, except it was for other reasons. Well this year I'm taking some Irish music with me ... not that there won't be some playing around Austin during the festivities. Irish music is a lot like the [...]

We don't get why anyone would want to give her a record deal especially after the fact that her sister, who was the lead vocalist of the Corrs, Andrea Corr failed miserably at her solo record. But, she's worth the try, we guess. We are definitely going to give it a right spin, but not too hopeful for it. Click below for the tracklisting. No. Title [...]
Upcoming debut album from one of the other Corr sisters. Just be thankful it's not Jim.
This week Jennifer Doherty, the writer of the popular blog 'Paws For Thought' is the guest blogger. I'm really excited about this because I don't know many people more passionate about music than Jennifer. Guest post 2 During the summer of 1995, Bon Jovi played their first ever outdoor gig in Dublin, in the R.D.S arena. I remember the day so well, July 2nd and it was a Sunday night. I remember it because I was nine years old and my parents said I [...]

This is The Corrs live at The Sopot Festival in Poland back on the 21st August 1998. The band have been on hiatus since 2006, as raising families and personal aspirations understandably take priority. Having seen them live a couple of times, this performance is a fine representation of their excellent musicianship and harmonies. The Corrs are one of those bands that make what they do seem so easy, however years of practice lay behind their superb performances. With the encouragement of their parents, Jim took guitar lessons, Sharon played the violin and Andrea [...]
Nowadays in music it's all about big budget megastars - your Lady GaGas and Kylies - and on the flipside, the DIY aesthetic of bands signed to Independent labels who make songs in their bedrooms once their room mate's passed out. But what about the unsung heroes who bypass the TV talent shows, employ some friends to film a video and turn their hands to being superstars in their own right? Well, for them, youtube is their Mecca (Bingo) and here are two wonderful examples of what can happen when a dream becomes a reality. First up is [...]

Quebequois folk artist Kate McGarrigle , whose name will be forever entwined with that of her sister and performing partner Anna, passed yesterday after a long struggle with cancer. Kate & Anna McGarrigle were performers first - taught to play the piano by nuns in their rural village, the singer-songwriters played the Montreal coffeehouse circuit in the sixties as part of The Mountain Four. But like so many artists before and after, it was their songwriting which paved the way for fame, especially after Linda Rondstadt not only recorded but [...]

The news runs all night and all day: in the barber shop, at the proverbial watercooler, on the seldom-watched television that has always lurked in the corner of our living room. In class, I ask my students to search news sites and blogs, and report on all the ways that social media - the stuff of postmodern interconnection - serves our global awareness. At night, my daughter and I find Haiti on the map, and I explain: how the houses were poorly built, how the concrete fell on the people: look, there they are in photographs, [...]

This one slipped under the radar, mainly because of the fact that you need star power for it to be full-on. The only people we care for are Heather Small from M People, whom we dearly miss, Paloma Faith, one quarter of The Corrs and, did we see Katie Melua in there somewhere? Everywhere bijvoorbeeld, Don't Stop (Thinking About Tomorrow), You Can Go Your Own Way en dus ook Dreams. Tot mijn verbazing kon ik alle woorden meezingen, [...]

As we reach the end of the decade it seems like a good time to take a look at the one hit wonders of the '00s. Finding commercial success isn't easy and it certainly isn't a slight on the quality of a band's music if they score one hit and never find the top of the charts again. Some of these bands (Los Lonely Boys, Fountains of Wayne) are extremely talented while others came up with a catchy hook that propelled them to success (Baha Men, Afroman). Let's take a look at [...]

Today is a really important day for me personally. Alot of people look to the Stars for inspiration right? Anyway this cover version of a Ryan Adams song is quite possibly the best thing The Corrs have ever done! Bono sings with them. The U2 machine hits Dublin this weekend. If you are in Dublin this weekend remember there are some seriously good gigs on elsewhere! When The Stars Go Blue http://www.u2.com/index/home/ Wallis [...]
I was born January 14, 1973, on the cusp of the disco age, and amidst the last true gasps of the sixties. Though my father's music was primarily blues and folk - the authentic, soulful stuff which I would return to in my own adulthood - for me, growing up in the eighties meant a childhood exposure to late Bee Gees and the early Michael Jackson, followed by a middle school passion for Howard Jones synthpop and Depeche Mode electronica; later, in my adolescence, I would turn to the growing anti-grunge movement like a dork to water, [...]

I like the directions she is taking with Pulse . It is a return to form, from the two songs I have heard. But, the backing vocals in the beginning sound awfully close to the chorus of The Corr's "Breathless," no?

Fleetwood Mac, 1977: original version from Rumours From as early as I can remember I have always loved Fleetwood Mac . Their sound, their music, reading about the torrid love affairs between bandmates and declining marriages that created some of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I'm talking pre- Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal ( No Doubt ) shit. True love and despair, threats to quit the band, drugs, world-wide tours, managing professionalism in the studio when you literally want to kill the very person you depend [...]
