Professional Fans is bringing its fourth official showcase to Brick & Mortar Music Hall on Sunday, May 19 with performances by Gothic Tropic , Seatraffic , and Cruel Summer . Expect a night of sunny California pop jams with subtly relatable undertones of emotional turmoil. This June on an undetermined date, Cruel Summer will put out a limited edition vinyl-only 12-inch EP on Mt St Mtn with six brand new tracks for you to get wavvy by. Though this jangly, syrupy group makes you see bright colors and effervescent tones, there is a level of darkness creaping beneath it all that manages to offset the sweet, laid-back beats with levels of refined depth. Just when you were expecting this EP to flow as brightly as the upcoming summer, you remember that this group is inde...

Live This Month: March 2013 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #301) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. With South by Southwest leading much of independent music to converge in Austin later this month, tons of bands are hitting the road. All of them, it would seem, are playing in the San Francisco Bay Area in March. Even if you aren't going to SXSW this [...]

The Lovely Bad Things are SICK! No, really they have some kind of flu or something. The drummer was particularly sweaty but it didn't seem to slow him down one bit. In fact the band was the loudest, fastest and noisiest of the evening. I can't wait to see these guys when they're healthy! They even played Priscilla's special request for "Paperface" by Weezer. If you are headed to SXSW, catch them at the Volstead 3/16th. SF's Cruel Summer kicked off the evening. The 2 women in the [...]
Transformed from the so-called "Louis Vuitton don" to the purported "abomination of Obama's nation" and back to being the kingpin of his very own G.O.O.D. Music label, there's never a dull moment in the erratic, if excessively well documented and tabloid-infecting life of a certain Kanye West . And over a night on which he nonchalantly rattles off the second of three sold out London shows in the space of a week in the crimson round of the Hammersmith Apollo, the same can certainly be said of his live portrayal. It is something of a portrayal after [...]

A year and a half after Cruel Summer ’s conception in fall 2011, the band is finally gearing up to release their debut, self-titled EP in late March 2013, right in time to follow up their Noise Pop show at the Hemlock Tavern tomorrow, 2/27/13. Needless to say, Cruel Summer’s gears are turning quickly. Consisting of four members - singer and guitarist Thea Chacamaty, guitarist Josh Yule, drummer Sean Mosley and bassist Chani Hawthorne - Cruel Summer’s upcoming EP gives us just a little taste of what the band has to offer, a freshly brewed [...]
The TLA will host a massive lineup headlined by Chicago rapper Cheif Keef as well as seven other performers tonight. The 17 year old hip-hop artist, who is the CEO and founder of the Chicago label Glory Boys Entertainment, released his highly anticipated debut Finally Rich this past Tuesday through Interscope Records and GBE. The G.O.O.D. Music crew had a huge year with the release of Cruel Summer . This record top to bottom has some of the best production in hip hop along with some of hip hops biggest names. "Mercy" is the standout track in my opinion, especially the verses from Pusha T and 2 Chainz . Pusha T has emerged as the stand out lyricist of the entire crew, combining clever quips with street credibility. Kanye West - Mercy (feat. Big Sean, Pusha T, & 2 Chainz) [from Cruel Summer ] [...]

As previously rumored, Kanye West and the rest of the G.O.O.D. Music crew have announced a follow-up to last season’s massive Cruel Summer LP. The rumor was confirmed by fellow G.O.O.D. Music member Big Sean earlier today in an interview with DJ Semtex, referring to one of his past tracks with the group: “You gotta wait and see, man, I don’t know,” he said. “It can’t be Cruel Spring . It’s gotta be in a timely fashion. I know I did something for it, for Cruel Winter [...]

It's been announced that Kanye West 's previously-rumoured Cruel Winter album is set to drop on G.O.O.D Music. The record and follow-up to Cruel Summer , which was released earlier this year, had been the subject of a fake website spoof, but now collaborator Big Sean has confirmed it to be true. West's protege referred in an interview to a track he appeared on for the project, but decided to keep for his own album. The rapper said, [...]

Remember when Q-Tip & Pusha hinted about this project during the red carpet interviews at the BET Awards. Well today, Kanye released the trailer for his upcoming short film, Cruel Winter. The Austin Christianson film will definitely be an interesting follow-up to West's Runway film, especially with the 1961 New World Order speech by President Eisenhower used in the trailer. Hit the jump and prepare for the NWO.

Fittingly on this dreary day, Brooklyn's darkwave duo Black Marble just premiered their video "Cruel Summer" on VICE . Of course in true Black Marble tradition, the ominous song is followed by an equally dark and creepy noir video. Smoke, spirits, and synths. Yessss Click here to view the embedded video.
Watch a new video by Brooklyn’s synthwave-duo Black Marble . Ellen Frances directed " Cruel Summer ", a beautiful bedtime story shot from one camera angle. Shapes of the night enter the stage searching for shelter. But the memories of a girl's cruel summer are already fading away. Welcome back, Cudder. Between the Cruel Summer standout "Creepers," the previously released "Just What I Am", and the new "King Wizard", it's apparent that Kid Cudi is back with a vengeance, and he knows it. The track's release was accompanied by a tweet from Scott Mescudi proclaiming, "mark my words, INDICUD will be the greatest album ever made. Know that I'm not lying." An empowering hook and one of the best first verses he's delivered since "Heart of a Lion" have me inclined to not temper any lofty expectations I might have [...]
