Governors Ball 2013 Lineup Kanye West, Kings Of Leon, TBA, Nas, Pretty Lights, The [...]

Governors Ball Announces 2013 Lineup

Governors Ball Announces 2013 Lineup I had a great time at the Governors Ball last year. With the 2013 lineup announcement, it seems like the festival is growing a lot bigger. Not only is there another day added (June 7,8,9) but the quality and size of the artists particiapting this year seem to be on an all-around grander scale. Headliners include Kanye West, Kings Of Leon and a secret guest that will be announced later. Also playing are Nas, Grizzly Bear, The xx, Kendrick Lamar, Beach House, Cut Copy, Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Bloc Party, Beirut, Local Natives, Death From Above 1979, [...]

We All Want Someone To Shout For’s Readers Poll 2012 Results

About 200 of you guys participated in our annual readers poll, and the results were tight. You had the chance to vote for 5 albums, and I gave each album a point value, decreasing with each vote. So first place got 5 points, second place got 4, etc... The race was very close between Frank Ocean & Tame Impala, but in the end, Frank Ocean took home the Orange gold. All in all, the taste of you faithful bunch alligns quite well with mine, minus Mumford & Sons. In total, 252!! albums were voted for, which is insane. [...]

We All Want Someone To Shout For’s Best Albums Of 2012

We All Want Someone To Shout For’s Best Albums Of 2012 Thanks To Camilo for this great artwork. Looking back at 2012, there were plenty of albums that I loved. Was it the best year of music in recent memory? Maybe not, but it was a damn good year in its own right. There is a lot that we may look back on and remember well into the rest of the decade. This year I listed my Top 40 albums, as well as a few honorable mentions that were as close to making my list as they come. I didn't get to listen [...]

Top 10 Songs Weekly Playlists – Dirty Projectors, Desert Noises, Crystal Castles, Team Genius, Teen Daze, Social Studies, Clinic

Now that the holidays are over and people are getting back to their regular routines, we had time to put together the November week-to-week playlists. The December week-to-week top songs will be thin because December is traditionally not a month that there are many new releases.  The No. 1 songs for November, in chronological order, [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Albums of the Year 2012

Albums of the Year 2012 1. Lonerism Tame Impala (buy) The reverb vibrates in and out of focus so you question what is there and what is not. Drawn out syllables stretch themselves across a room too small for the guitar amps, like the family room at Christmas overflowing with wrapping, tinsel and bodies. The words can't easily be understood in so many layers washing over your ears but their message is heard clearly. The lyrics may describe feelings of solitude, but the songs themselves do something to the opposite effect--they are not written to [...]

TheOwlMag’s 50 Best Albums of 2012

We debated, we disagreed, we came up with our collective best 50 albums of 2012.

Top 10 Songs for November 2012 – Dirty Projectors, Crystal Castles, Sufjan Stevens, Markarians, Guided By Voices, Califone

November, as most Novembers, was not as blockbuster for new releases that October and September turned out to be, but there were still plenty of standout songs from largely well-received new albums by a variety of musicians and bands, from bedroom DIY to signed artists. According to IRC listeners, the No. 1 song* of the [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

End of the Year Fantasy League: Albums Version

End of the Year Fantasy League: Albums Version The GvsB list already posted, and it didn't help my score very much. A while back the writers of this old blog tossed some ideas back and forth about a year end contest. This contest would center around the vaunted 'best of' lists regarding each varied internet and print publication's views on which albums were the best of 2012, of which each and every website and publication participates in. As a list making society, why not capitalize and make a game out of it? Well, Andy took to twitter fleshing the idea out a [...]

Top Albums of 2012: 50-1

Here it is.  I know you'll hate it; I know you'll disagree, but that's not the point in making an arbitrary list.  We here at ATH worked really hard to fit in the tastes of the four of us, and when we decided upon our Top 50, it really boied down to simple math.  What albums did we love when they came out?  Do we still enjoy spinning those records months later? If they're in the Top 50, then the asnwer is probably yes.  I mean, our Top 2 records came out in January, and still play a vital part [...]

10 MP3s You Need to Download for Free This Week: Swans, Dirty Projectors

It's Friday, and we're back with another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness from around the web. This week, we get very excited about a taste of the new Swans album, even if it's only a truncated edit of a truly epic-sounding track. There's also a non-album Dirty Projectors track, Thurston Moore's new band, new work from Crystal Castles and The Mountain Goats, suitably whacked-out hip hop from Flying Lotus and Raekwon, and a suite of Scott Walker remixes. In other words, there's plenty of interesting sounds awaiting you after the jump, and since they won't cost [...]

Top mp3s of the Week (7/27)

Top mp3s of the Week (7/27) "You are the music while the music lasts." -T.S. Eliot The Babies - "Moonlight Mile" Bold move, copping a song title from the Rolling Stones, but The Babies get away with it, as “Moonlight Mile” is the strongest—and most focused—song yet from the side-project of Vivian Girls’ Cassie Ramone and Woods’ Kevin Morby. Ramone’s fuzzed-out guitars quiver while Morby takes lead vocals, warning listeners to “watch your step, out on the moonlight mile.” The vibrant production, organ flourishes, and wall of guitars are a far cry from the half-baked ditties [...]

ATP’s Bowlie 2 // Day 2 – Butlins, Minehead 11/12/10

ATP’s Bowlie 2 // Day 2 – Butlins, Minehead 11/12/10 Click on any image to enlarge | All photographs by Sonny Malhotra Having shifted wearily home from The Crazy Horse at some ungodly hour in the morning, today’s early start is only made bearable by an opening performance from Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan . The stale smell of beer and hotdogs populates the air in the dimly lit hall as the duo take to the stage. Best known for her time as cellist and vocalist with Belle & Sebastian , Campbell’s crisp and sweet vocals soar above Lanegan’s [...]

CoS End of Week Recap: July 19-23

For many, one of the highlights of the summer passed. Yes, Pitchfork  '10 came and went. The hipsters are peeling, the artists have moved on to other festivals in other cities, and the clean-up crew is still picking up discarded biodegradable plastic cups. Well, as I've said many times before, when a major musical event ends, be it Coachella, Bonnaroo, or Pitchfork, that doesn't mean everything else in music ends with it. There's still plenty more on the horizon to cover. Arcade Fire's new LP is coming out, Lollapalooza still hasn't happened... Need I say more? And don't forget everything [...]
