James Brown was called by many names, but a national treasure said it all. He was the master of funk; although his flamboyant style will be missed, his influence will live forever. Some others said it best... Fifty years after recording his first hit song, the Hardest Working Man in Show Business has played his final encore. James Brown , the Godfather of Soul, died early Christmas morning after a brief bout with pneumonia in an Atlanta hospital. – Source: James Sullivan, Rolling Stone Magazine [...]

I can't help but think of Christmas music and it seems divided into two catagories. The traditional songs I grew up listening to, that give me that warm fuzzy feeling of home and hearth. Then there's the newer contemporary songs by some of my favorite artists and bands. It's the lyrics that really make these great, because we all know the music can be really cheesy at times. "A Christmas Song" Jethro Tull ~ Christmas Spirit is not what you drink. "Please Come Home For Christmas" The [...]
Zappa plays Zappa is a three hour concert extravaganza of Frank Zappa music, played and conducted by his son Dweezil , with a amazing band of stellar players and Zappa alumni. Dweezil and the band were in top form last Saturday night at the Nokia Theatre in Grand Prairie. DZ is passing Frank's music along to the next generation and doing a masterful job in the process. Terry Bozzio is an outrageous drummer. His song introductions were great. Napoleon Murphy Brock was entertaining with his animated vocals [...]

Music pioneer, visionary, record label founder, jazz and R&B collector and producer, Ahmet Ertegun has passed away at age 83 from a head injury. A rock and roll fan until the very end, he slipped and fell at a Rolling Stones concert in October, and later slipped into a coma. He was a giant in the music business. He and a friend Herb Abramson founded Atlantic Records in 1947 and was instrumental in the careers of early R&B artists Ruth Brown , Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin , [...]

Now that we're into the 12 days of Christmas, it's time to unleash the Christmas music . When I think of this holiday season, I don't usually think of the word brutal, unless we're talking about the crowds in the shopping malls. Thanks to my friend at work Mark, who shared this with me today. This is the funniest, yet absolutely worst idea ever! OMG, this redefines bad. Christmas songs, motorbated into death metal. Well these eleven bands got together to cover their favorite Christmas songs and [...]
Online... Dave at About: Classic Rock talks about the Grammies , and makes a point that it all boils down to public relations now, instead of artistic talent. Good point, well taken, Dave. It's ironic, too, because every year after the Grammies, album sales increase for those winners. Sad fact is that a large part of the American public mistakenly interpret Grammy awards as endorsements of talent. Ask anyone who's ever worked in a record store, especially around the holidays. Welcome to the PR machine at work. [...]
The TV commercial for the Sansa Rhapsody MP3 player caught my attention because it features Eric Clapton . The folks behind Rhapsody Online service may have captured certain market share by getting this major artist endorsement. Although he doesn't say anything specific about their player, the ad draws interest, especially for EC fans. Plus his new release album with J.J. Cale is featured, The Road To Escondido , which is a smart marketing ploy; it's obvious the competitors are out to kill the iPod. [...]

I just saw Brian Setzer and his Orchestra rockin' up "Jingle Bells" on the morning show this past weekend, and if this one song is any indication, then it's little wonder why their 5th Annual Christmas Extravaganza Tour is selling out date after date. The Brian Setzer Orchestra (BSO) is a 17-piece orchestra that can really heat up the house and drive a great big sound. With Brian on his big Gretsch guitar , stand up bass, drums, 2 female vocalists, 5 saxophones, 4 trumpets and 4 trombones, [...]
An Other Cup by Yusuf - A new album by (formerly known as) Cat Stevens! Amazon says: Yusuf's (formerly Cat Stevens) first album of modern pop songs since 1978's Back to Earth. On his return to music, Yusuf says "I feel right about making music and singing about life in this fragile world again. It is important for me to help bridge the cultural gaps others are sometimes frightened to cross." My favorite Cat Stevens albums were Teaser and the Firecat and Tea for the Tillerman , which I gave [...]

Ritchie Blackmore is best known for his guitaristry (guitar work + artistry) with Deep Purple and Rainbow . Then in 1997 he founded the "renaissance rock" band Blackmore's Night with vocalist Candice Night , to explore their mutual interest in medieval music. Since then the band has released seven albums, including their first holiday album, Winter Carols. It was five years ago when George Harrison passed away on November 29th, 2001. He was only 58 years old when lung cancer claimed his amazing life. First a Beatle , then a successful solo artist, Harrison was the first to release a triple solo album, "All Things Must Pass." Featuring a stellar lineup of rock and roll royalty, the album was a critical success, with the songs "My Sweet Lord" and "Isn't It A Pity." The following statement summed it up..."He left this world as he lived in [...]
A year ago today we made the very first post on CybersMusic! The post was Paul McCartney Concert , and it started us on a musical journey that we could not even imagine at the time. We have covered a lot of Music in the last 365 days and just want to thank everyone who visits us. Without the readers, CybersMusic would be just another blog floating around in CyberSpace. Thanks to you! And we look forward to another year of [...]

What's on your iPod? At Thanksgiving dinner during our CybersMusic conference, our diverse tastes revealed forty years of music listening in our family, ranging from ages 14 to 53. Yeah, we are old enough to have kids with their own musical tastes and we can see how we have influenced (for better or worse, lol) their choice in music. A simple peek into everyone's iPods showed the following... Dava:(14 yr old female) Killswitch Engage "The End Of A Heartache," Jonezetta, Breaking Benjamin, The Exies, Crossfade, Evanscence, Hinder, [...]
