Video of the Moment #709: Coldplay

Coldplay - Charlie Brown
From some friends in the business, I heard about the concept for Coldplay 's video 'Charlie Brown' long before I'd actually sat down and watched the promo. In this video meant to feel like a mini-film, the undecidedly non-ravey piano rock band play in the middle of a group of their fans as coloured lights pour down on them, while young kids get involved in some decidedly unsavoury antics. Well, unsavoury if you're old enough to know better, I guess... Click here to view the embedded video.

Video of the Moment #708: The Maccabees

The Maccabees - Feel To Follow
The beauty of a slower - and a spiritual and supernatural - life is examined in the Maccabees ' new video for 'Feel to Follow'. Watch it below. Click here to view the embedded video.

Video of the Moment #707: Ok Go

OK Go - Needing/Getting - Official Video
Someone should just give Ok Go the Godlike Geniuses of Video award already. The latest example of their inventiveness in the visual musical form is their new one for 'Needing/Getting'. I'm not even going to try to explain what's happening in this video, it'd not do the band justice. Watch it below and prepare for the smile on your face. (Also, it sure beats Spector's 'Chevy Thunder' out of the water, I think you will agree.) Click here to view the embedded [...]

MP3 of the Day (and more!) #490: Big Deal

Big Deal - Chair
Big Deal 's new video is for the song 'Talk', and the story plays on a metaphor for a broken relationship. (Well, that's my best guess anyway. A guy comes back to the girl he hurt, because he knows she's "safe" and can heal him.) It dawned on me that we never gave away a free track from the duo, 'Chair'. (You can grab the mp3 here. ) And since we're big about giving here at TGTF, I've also embedded a live performance of 'Chair' below as well. Enjoy! [...]

Video of the Moment #706: Miike Snow

Miike Snow - Paddling Out
In the promo video for Miike Snow 's 'Paddling Out', your everyday John Doe get abducted by aliens and is turned into a breakdancing Iggy Pop...? You can't make this stuff up. Watch the video below. Click here to view the embedded video.

Video of the Moment #705: Dry the River

The new video from Dry the River , for their forthcoming single 'The Chambers and the Valves', doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you consider they're indie folksters. If anything, it proves deep down they're lads underneath, are rather fastidious when playing dress-up and would be fun party guests. This single will be out on the 27th of February.

MP3 of the Day #489: Juan Zelada

Juan Zelada 's song 'The Blues Remain' is iTunes' single of the week. Grab it for absolutely nothing through this link. You're welcome. Zelada heads out on a tour of the UK in late March that doesn't finish until the end of April ( details here ); his album 'High Ceilings and Collarbones' just came out on Monday (6 February) on Decca.

Video of the Moment #704: Ladyhawke

Ladyhawke - Black White & Blue
In Ladyhawke 's new video for 'Black, White and Blue', Pip Brown plays a photographer from an era of days gone by. I don't really get it, it doesn't fit the lyrics at all? Watch it below and see if you agree. Or have a theory about it... Click here to view the embedded video.

Video of the Moment #703: The Whip

The Whip - Movement - Offical Video
While it may have Brave New World overtones, the video for the Whip 's new single 'Movement' (out today on Southern Fried Records) stars some imaginative kids...being kids and having. Without being on the internet. What a concept. Except there is a bit of technology involved here, oops... The single includes remixes by The 2 Bears and In Flagranti. The band's 'Wired Together', released in September of last year and reviewed here , was one of my top 5 albums of 2011. You can read more about my [...]

MP3 of the Day #488: Bear in Heaven

Bear in Heaven will be releasing their next album 'I Love You, It's Cool' (what a title, huh?) in the U.S. on the 3rd of April, and I'm assuming a UK release will follow soon after. The trio have offered up 'The Reflection of You', fits perfectly as a follow-up track to their previous album, 'Beast Rest Forth Mouth', and you can listen to and download the song below.

Video of the Moment #702: M. Ward

M. Ward - The First Time I Ran Away
M. Ward (1/2 of She and Him , he's pictured on the left of course) has a new video for 'The First Time I Ran Away'. This is the first song to be released to the public from his forthcoming album 'A Wasteland Companion', due out this spring. Beautiful animation. Click here to view the embedded video.

Video of the Moment #701: M.I.A.

M.I.A. - Bad Girls (Official Video)
While Lana Del Rey has been playing the submissive 'bad girl', M.I.A. proves in the promo for her new song 'Bad Girls' that being a bad girl in the Middle East involves not wearing a burka, wearing your bra over your clothes, setting fires in the middle of the desert and having your mates perform crazy tricks with their cars. More 'Rock the Casbah' in real life, as it were. Click here to view the embedded video.

Video of the Moment #700: Bombay Bicycle Club

Bombay Bicycle Club - How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep
To round off a long week nicely, how about the whimsical new video from Bombay Bicycle Club ? This one's for 'How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep', from 20112s 'A Different Kind of Fix' ( review here ). It has a Night Before Christmas kind of feel and you can tell it was so lovingly made. To see more on how it was created, head over to Anna Ginsburg's Tumblr. As for the song, it's definitely one of the more underrated tracks on the album. Enjoy your weekend, [...]

MP3 of the Day #487: Band of Skulls

Band of Skulls will be releasing their second album, 'Sweet Sour', on the 20th of February on Electric Blue Recordings. They want you to have the title track now, for absolutely nothing. Listen to and grab it for your very own below.

Video of the Moment #698: Skint and Demoralised

Skint & Demoralised - All The Rest Is Propaganda [Official Video - HD]
The theme for the video of Skint and Demoralised 's 'All the Rest is Propaganda'? The power of the written word can be used to win the one you love. Well, almost. Watch the promo below. By the way, if you're keen on S&D and want to lend your support, this very song is up for Steve Lamacq's Rebel Playlist on 6music this week. (In case you aren't familiar on how Rebel Playlist works, the track with the highest number of votes of the three song nominees are played every [...]

Video of the Moment #697: Sky Larkin

Tiny Heist
After a long break from the band and each other, Sky Larkin have a new song with a new video they want you to see. Called 'Tiny Heist', this is the first material they've released since 'Kaleide' in 2010. Nice and energetic. Watch the video below. Click here to view the embedded video.

MP3 of the Day #485: Ladyhawke

Ladyhawke 's first new material since her debut album in 2008, 'Black, White and Blue', has probably reached your ears by now. (If not, no worries. You can listen to and read my impression of the original in this single review. ) The Big Pink have remixed the track, and now it's got a completely different vibe. Listen to and download the Big Pink's treatment of the song below.

Video of the Moment #696: exlovers

Exlovers - ''Starlight Starlight''
The new exlovers video for 'Starlight, Starlight' is a series of grainy home videos strung together for a definite feeling of nostalgia. Watch it below. The band's new album 'Moths' is set for a spring release, so stay tuned. We offered the song as a previous MP3 of the Day freebie but that link has now expired; you can however still snag it for absolutely nothing on their official Web site. Click here to view the embedded video.
