California's Family of the Year have released their next video for the gorgeous tune 'Hero'. Taking a look at the lonely life of a rodeo-riding cowboy, 'Hero' shows us the sacrifices made for even the simplest of dreams. Family of the Year's bright summery pop is a perfect accompaniment to the impending warmer weather. (C'mon, warmer weather!) Pick up their album 'Loma Vista' now. You can also watch an acoustic version of this song from last year here. Click here to [...]
'80s electronic pioneers OMD released their latest album, 'English Electric', today, and they've released two more video treatments to follow the one for first single 'Metroland' (which you can watch in this previous Video of the Moment feature ). These are for the album's first track 'Please Remain Seated' and 'Decinal', the latter of which was animated by German artist Henning M. Lederer. Watch both visuals below. The duo and their backing band start a new tour of the UK on the 28th of April in Margate; for more [...]
Singer/songwriter Chan Marshall, Cat Power , explores the big, bad wilds of New York City in her new video for 'Manhattan'. Are you an urbanite? This video's for you. Click here to view the embedded video.
I always get nervous when faced with one of those 'explicit content' stickers at the start of a YouTube video. In Hurts ' new video released today for 'Blind', the story begins in exactly the way the European Hurts faithful dream about. Things quickly go awry with flashbacks of sexual passion (hence the warning; it's not that horrible, but I probably wouldn't show this to little kids) and what looks like drug use using wonky arrows. Most importantly though, the song itself sounds more like the Hurts we have come to know [...]
Toro Y Moi 's videos are always odd. And this one for 'Never Matter' is no exception. Set in a flea market, it's the right amount of quirky. Watch it below. Click here to view the embedded video.
We first became aware of the lovely creature that is Owlle from her appearance on the 'Kitsune Parisien II' compilation last year. The Parisian chanteuse is now giving away a free track, the Moonlight Matters remix of the title track of recently released EP 'Ticky Ticky'. Grab it from her Facebook here. Her debut album will follow soon.
We encountered Guards ' fun, energetic and sometimes hard-rocking live set for the first time last year when they opened for Two Door Cinema Club in Washington DC. Their next single, 'Ready to Go', has an incredibly uplifting quality and is scheduled to be released on the 22nd of April, and their cheekily titled debut album 'In Guards We Trust' follows a week later on the 29th of April on Partisan Records. Watch the black and white, carefree summer-themed promo video for the new single below. [...]
The electronics that begin Passion Pit 's 'Cry Like a Ghost' sound very strange. But the video is even stranger. Don't believe me? Watch it below. Click here to view the embedded video.
Depeche Mode 's latest album 'Delta Machine' was released last Monday (the 25th of March), and it's causing a major rift in Depeche fans. The latest video from the band fronted by Dave Gahan is for the song 'Soothe My Soul', and thankfully, it's at least an upbeat, groovier number than previously proffered snoozer 'Heaven'. Also included below is a video via Rolling Stone of the making of 'Delta Machine', which is pretty interesting, if you're a fan or even if you're not.
Glasgow's Father Sculptor , who Martin introduced us all to last September , has a new video for the track 'Lowlands'. Don't cry over spilt milk (or Froot Loops), it's a losing battle in this visual. The song will appear on the band's 'Faith and Violence' EP out on the 15th of April. Click here to view the embedded video.
If you ever fancied Lana Del Rey covering one of Leonard Cohen's songs, all your wishes have come through with this new video. The loved and hated American singer covers Cohen's 1974 opus 'Chelsea Hotel No. 22 here below. Click here to view the embedded video.
Here is the delightfully kooky video from the Postelles for 'Caught by Surprise', the first teaser track from their forthcoming full-length 'And It Shook Me', which drops on the 23rd of April in America. Click here to view the embedded video.
Sigur Ros hasn't let losing bandmate and multi-instrumentalist Kjartan Sveinsson affect their artistic progress; the Icelandic band will be releasing a new album, 'Kveikur', later this year. Here is the video for their 8-minute opus 'Brennisteinn', which sees the band expand from their usual experimental prog stylings into metal. Watch it below. Click here to view the embedded video.
Brighton's Cave Painting recently released the video for 'Rio', one of the most atmospherically beautiful tracks off their debut album 'Votive Life' released in 2012. (Read my review of the album here ; do yourself a favour and get this album!) The song is the title track to a new EP by the band to be released on the 28th of April. To be honest, I was expecting golden beaches and palm trees in this video, which is not what you get... In case you missed it, I had a [...]
Phoenix 's new album ‘Bankrupt!’ is scheduled to be released on Atlantic on the 22nd of April, and we've got this Blood Orange (Dev Hynes) remix of 'Entertainment' for free for absolutely free below. It features...get this..."backing vocals of 3 lovely British ladies who go by the name of Mutya Keisha Siobhan". The plot thickens. You know the drill: listen, download and enjoy. Watch the Korean soap-y video for 'Entertainment' in this previous Video of the Moment post.
Uhhh...this is the new video from Big Deal , and it's nothing that I would have expected from the duo that brought us this video for 'Talk'. It's literal... but it's also not. Watch it below.
French electropoppers Juveniles have been busy since we last caught up with them at the Great Escape last year and in summer 2012. They've been bonding on tour like whoa and now they have a new video for their single 'Strangers'. Watch it below. Or if you're suffering like I am in America, you can hear the original song and some related remixes by Jupiter and Le Crayon below the YouTube embed. Click here to [...]
Since seeing them gig at SXSW 2012 and accidentally running into them at the Great Escape last year , I've been wondering what TGTF 10 for 2012 poll winners Films of Colour have been up to. Well, we can wonder no more. They've offered up this brand new song 'New Light' for you to listen to download to your heart's content below.
Charlie Fink of Noah and the Whale has directed his band's new video for 'There Will Come a Time' in association with Parkville Pictures. And as you can rightly expect, it's a very cool-looking visual set to the band's first single off their upcoming album 'Heart of Nowhere' out on the 6th of May. I'm dedicating this song and its motto "there will come a time / when you will need your friends tonight" to a group of friends from Sheffield who took me out in Austin after their SXSW show last [...]
During their last year's tour date in Philadelphia, Simian Mobile Disco recorded their live show in one take, with no edits. This will be released for the fittingly but rather boringly titled 'Live' album, to be put out by seminal German techno label Kompakt on the 15th of April on Delicacies. As an offering ahead of the album's release, James Ford and Jas Shaw are offering up this version of their track 'Wooden' done in a studio in January 2013 with the same live ethos as 'Live' but under more controlled conditions. Listen [...]
