As far as my musical leanings go, I'm pretty one dimensional and rarely venture off into reggae. However, all rules have exceptions. Every so often, I wake up on the wrong side of the bed and find myself popping Damian Marley and Nas' 2005 masterpiece, "Road to Zion" in the deck. The two musicians carry the track with God's Son easily spitting one of his greatest politically charged sixteens and Junior Gong's melodious verses maintain stride. The two artists show the first inklings of [...]

Let us touch briefly on the irony that a video dropping damn near nine months late is called "Patience." Now lets move on, because Nas and Damian's video is too dope for us to harp on the old stuff. It could visually be compared to Marco Brambilla's work with Mr. West coupled with a twist of Frank Miller and a dash Eminem's "White America." It could... but it shouldn't be. Anytime we initially see too many other people's ideas in a work of art, we eventually realize we're not looking at a hybrid but an individual force further [...]

As I've been compiling this best songs list I've been thinking a lot about what it means to be a great track. Last year I went by play counts to determine what songs I "loved" the most but this year I noticed that the list that came out didn't really match my perception of my favorites. A lot of my top played songs this year are indeed great songs, but they also happen to be on a great album so they get played by themselves as well as in the course of the album. So I got to thinking about [...]
![Remix Roundup Vol. 23 – 6.18.2010 [Oasis, RAC, Crystal Castles, Tokyo Police Club, Major Lazer]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2629181_lg.jpg)
Damn. This roundup is huge. I been slippin on my pimpin and sooo many great tracks have piled up. Dive in. For more jams or by any of these artists use the 'tags' links at the bottom of the post! ♫ Oasis - Wonderwall (Questions Version) / Jay-Z fucked up his attempt and Ryan Adams' cover is beautiful. Now we have this remix to add a little gritty funk to these timeless lyrics. Sweet. ♫ Rox - I Don't believe (DON [...]

Throw another excerpt into the Distant Relatives scrapbook. Nas and Damian link up with none other than Junior "One Blood" Reid for their family tree's iTunes bonus track. This particular chant down Babylon encompasses all the strengths, weaknesses and originality of the album in just one track. While you can't quite pinpoint the reasoning behind the artistic effort, nor is there outstanding magic being diffused from the song's presence, the talent involved mesh any shortcomings well enough to be accepted into general population of Reggae rap hybrids. [...]

Even though every review is a crew review to some extent, the familial vibes Nasir & Damian's Distant Relatives almost begged for the veil to be pulled back and the inner workings of our deliberations revealed once again. Why you ask? Because distant relatives are what we are; a rag tag bunch strewn across the map, banded together by our love of Hip-Hop. Add to the equation that any Nas album piques a vast array of opinions and a fertile ground for [...]

who want it? tuck your chain, we're due coming renegades that'll peel you back like new hundreds ♫ Nas and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley - As We Enter I don't really listen to hip hop and I don't really listen to reggae so you can imagine that I've never really listened to Nas nor Damian Marley aside from tracks encountered passively. Well, passivity ends right here. The two heavyweights of their respective genres have teamed up for the collaborative album Distant Relatives that showcases the best of both worlds and [...]

It was a particularly busy evening of music on our favorite late night television programs last night (May 19). Hip-hop, or should I say star-studded hip-hop collaborations, reigned especially supreme. Reflection Eternal (Talib Kwelli + Hi-Tek) w/ special guest Estelle dropped the rhymes from their newly released album Revolutions per Minute on Kimmel, while Damian Marley & Nas shared their own new album, Distant Relatives , on Leno. Yep, Leno actually had a worthwhile musical guest. Go figure. On the over-the-hill yet sober front, Scott Weiland and Stone Temple Pilots [...]

I like this and I'm short on reggae content this weekend: Nas & Damian Marley - The Promise Land feat. Dennis Brown [mp3 stream] From the Distant Relatives hip hop-reggae collab project dropping May 18 on Universal Republic records. Previously on The Kitchen : 100 Akres Productions present Nas & Bob Marley - Relatives Abroad mash-up mixtape album .
The ongoing collaboration between rapper Nas and reggae artist Damian Marley seriously does keep getting and better. In addition to the May 18th release of their joint album Distant Relatives , the musicians have also announced plans for a lengthy summer tour. In addition to previously announced appearances at Bonnaroo, Sunfest, and the Gathering of the Vibes, Nas and Marley will visit cities across the U.S. and Europe between the months of June and August. A trip through the western and southern portion of the U.S. will kick things off before the duo [...]
Distant Relatives - Trailer Video for upcoming side project with Nas and Damian Jr. Gong Marley.

Tsk, tsk, tsk. What are the odds? A news writer and a photographer covering a music festival! Actually, it sounds like a match made in heaven, but we'll let the story do the talking - starting with the five W's. That seems fair, right? Or, just lazy. Who? Andy Keil and Timothy Berger. What? Rothbury Music Festival. Where? Rothbury, Michigan, of course! When? This past Fourth of July weekend. Duh! Why? Because you readers weren't fortunate enough to attend and therefore need/desire/demand this type of coverage from yours truly, [...]

Guerilla Union's Rock the Bells tour kicks off this weekend in Chicago. This year's lineup is a bit of a step down from last year's, which was highlighted by heavily anticipated reunion sets by A Tribe Called Quest and The Pharcyde. But still, there are a handful of reasons why rap fans should consider braving the high ticket prices, cavernous venues and inevitable set delays. Here are nine: 1. Nas/Damian Marley Nas has been second on this festival's bill the [...]
