The City North Hotel which is in a great location are beginning to book some decent entertainment like this launch night on June 24th. Along with Damien Dempsey is the amazing Jerry Fish as well as James O'Connor & Audrey Trainor. James from Laois and Audrey from Louth create a sound that is pretty unique these days. Valentine Black is the alter ego of Kildare musician Peco Mc Loughlin whose latest politically charged single 'Take me to your leader' was released this month and is a cracking good tune. Over the years Peco has shared the stage with a number of major artists, supporting acts like The Waterboys, Mundy, Bell X-1, Damien Dempsey, Duke Special, The Blizzards, The Coronas, Luka Bloom, Jerry Fish, Dirty Epics, Aslan and Something Happens. http://www.reverbnation.com/va lentineblack [...]
Of all the troubadours who made it big a decade ago Damien Dempsey is the one artist continually working and re-inventing himself with every album. I thought the last album of old traditional ballads was amazing and this version of The Rocky Road to Dublin is of the highest quality! With Valentine's Day over we turn our attention to St. Patrick's Day next month where Damien Dempsey will be performing an acoustic show in The Ashbourne House Hotel for the reasonable sum of €22.50. It's most certainly an opportunity to 'Sing All Your Cares Away' I also noticed that Damien is to star in an Irish movie called 'Between The Canals'. If you check out the trailer you'll notice it isn't [...]
Here's a question for Irish music fans; Is there a renaissance for Singer-songwriters? After years of ridicule and demotion of status we 'liked' Jamie Lawson's 'Wasn't Expecting That' and are falling in love with Ryan Sheridan! If the'Singer-songwriter' genre is making a comeback then there's hope for Kenny Bogan. Dubliner Kenny has been based in Amsterdam for a number of years where he recorded and released an album in 2010 called 'The Skinhead and the Daisy'. Just like Damien [...]
My maternal grandfather was a huge Frank Sinatra fan: one of my most powerful memories of him, in fact, is of my grandparents dancing in their Florida living room, strangely graceful and oblivious to the watching world, their wistful smiles and laugh lines framing faces aglow with an otherwise unseen affection, the swell of strings and Sinatra's voice pouring from the record player like a fog. A year later, they would give up the house, move North, and start their relatively short decline towards death, but it's here where I would remember them best: gliding in rare partnership, recapturing a lifetime I can only imagine.
