This tune off Damien Jurado's new album, Maraqopa , contains perhaps my favorite lyrics in the set. Collected within a simple folk structure, wordless hummed hook, and a deceptively upbeat feel are verses capped off with a number of cutting couplets. It's unclear who the poor sap is that let Jurado down despite being formerly "more like a hero," but let's hope they can handle hearing Elliott Smith-worthy bites like this: "So fed up still you're starving on paper / You are no him, but he's you, only better." Then again, as Smith used to [...]

Damien Jurado's "Working Titles" was my song obsession this time Song obsessions are those songs that get stuck in your head. This series of posts isn't about what I or the other panel members think is best, but what our brain latches onto, those ear worms that loop around and around in your head. - Adrian ( me ): Damien Jurado - Working Titles (mp3) ( pre-order ) I'd heard a couple tracks from the forthcoming [...]

Luego [...]

I keep trying to get further into the new Damien Jurado record, Maraqopa , but then I get stuck and stuck and stalled on this marvelous (melodic, melancholy) song. Not a bad place to be, there swimming in the ghostly doo-wop sadness. Of all them, Damien consistently slays me the most. Working Titles - Damien Jurado I didn't listen to Saint Bartlett (2010) adequately until 2011, so it was voided [...]
In today's post, we have a 2nd track from the forthcoming Bowerbirds album The Clearing , which I have to say is getting me more and more excited; we have a new track off a new Woodpigeon EP For Paolo that is pretty damn awesome; we have a couple tracks that I like from bands I don't know much about, some that I know a little more about ( Said the Whale , Damien Jurado ), and we have the "slow version" of Superchunk 's absolutely brilliant 2009 B-side "Blinders", the [...]
Maraqopa is the new album by Damien Jurado, and it's out February 21 via Secretly Canadian. Jurado is profiled in issue #84 of MAGNET, out now. Download Maraqopa track "Museum Of Light" below, and catch Jurado on his U.S. tour starting in April. "Museum Of Flight" (download):
Damien Jurado sat down to perform two new songs off his forthcoming album acoustic. "Museum of Flight" and "So On, Nevada" off of Maraqopa. "Flight" is haunting and fantastic. Actually so is "Nevada," but techinical mike bumps get in the...

BJ the Chicago Kid - "His Pain (ft Kendrick Lamar)" . A treasure and devotional. Soundwave reinvents a sample from Black El's "The Ride" , and Lamar finds the bassline, the feeling at its heart. He elevates his three minutes, earns them, telling his story in the blue-goldish glow of stained glass. Questions of God and fortune are not easy: anyone who skips and gallops with this stuff is not thinking hard. Note the care of Lamar's revelation, the melancholy shiver of his doubt. [ Pineapple Now & Laters is out on Feb 14] [...]
January and myself didn't get along very well. Anything that could go wrong did. This probably had a large influence on my listening habits as I spent a lot of time listening to songs that I can take comfort in. Of course my top two, Sharon Van Etten and Damien Jurado, had new albums that weren't available to me until late this month but I fell hard for both of them when I finally did get to hear them. You can pre-order both albums and get the [...]

This painfully beautiful song is by a man named Damien Jurado , an artist who I would consider a more artfully/audibly emotional (for better or for worse) version of Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. This song comes from his latest album MARAQOPA and is available for a free download if you head over to RCRDLBL. I'll post the link below. DOWNLOAD "MUSEUM OF FLIGHT" HERE Word, Kev
James Mercer and The Shins to release Port Of Morrow on March 20, their first album in six years. Now that we've had our first real viable candidate for arbitrary year-end lists, it's time to look at some other releases on the near horizon that hold that kind of potential. Since the world is supposed to end in May or something, we won't look beyond* that. Joining the excellent Cloud Nothings' Attack On Memory are anticipated releases from The Shins, Dirty Projectors, Sleigh Bells, Sharon [...]

Tweet vaso link The first single from Damien Jurado's upcoming album Maraqopa - "Nothing Is The News" - was nearly twice as long as this second single. It took a long approach, winding and weaving a gorgeous path; conversely, "Museum of Flight" is much more straightforward in its scope. Jurado's voice is at it's most vulnerable here, straining with the higher notes, occasionally reaching its breaking point. Jurado, for me, has always been a more depressing [...]

6am Repeat is a recurring feature here at Folk Hive in which we stream the latest track that plays incessantly in the earbuds when we awake at that hour and imbibe massive amounts of coffee and cigarettes in preparation for the advancing day. Consider it your jam of the day — a sweet, sweet gift from me to you. I love you, dude. Damien Jurado done gone and wrote me an autobiographical song. God, it's so good. Love [...]

Not too long ago Damien Jurado released "Nothing is the News" off his new album Maraqopa , which is due out next month. Now he has been kind enough to release another stellar tune, "Museum of Flight," which is incredibly endearing and had me hooked immediately. Check out the new song below and if you like it, download it - it's that easy folks.

Another quick round-up of our favourite new tracks gathered via all sources digital, via our in-box, our favourite blogs, the internet at large, and best of all those CDs that arrive out of the blue. This week we can offer you the Byrdsian jangle of White Fence's It Will Never Be , more high octane, clattering punk riffage from Terry Malts , Grouper's unique ethereal ambience comes to the fore on her take on Dead Moon's Demona , and then there is the elegant piano and guitar washes of [...]

This week has been all about hearing singles from releases due out next week through April. Every morning I've been able to wake up to a new batch of excitement. I hope I'm not starting to sound insincere when I say this is at the top of my most anticipated albums of 2012, but Maraqopa the new album from Damien Jurado due out February 21st, really is. I've heard from a few Seattle based people and friends of Damien that this is the album of the year. I believe them. The first single released, [...]
