By Gabriel Jones It takes a remarkable showman who can keep an audience mesmerized while barely saying a word, but Dan Bejar is just that. His concerts tend to be bundles of contradictions — tight but sprawling, intimate but alien, retro but futuristic — that feel like a strange, beautiful new life form. And, like his music, suggest that much more interesting things happen when you figure out what’s expected, head there for a moment, and then veer off in the other direction. ||| Photos by Laurie Scavo [...]

Dan Bejar, Destroyer & Koff-pullo @ Flow 2011 Viime vuoden Flow-festivaaleilla hurmannut Destroyer palaa ensi syksynä Helsinkiin. Vokalisti/kitaristi Dan Bejarin johtama kanadalaisyhtye esiintyy Tavastialla sunnuntaina 25. marraskuuta. Vuonna 1995 Vancouverissa perustettu, mutta laajemman läpimurron tammikuussa 2011 arvostetun Merge-levymerkin (mm. Arcade Fire, Conor Oberst, Caribou) kautta julkaistulla Kaputt -albumillaan saavuttanut Destroyer vei viimeisimmällä levyllään yhtyeen 80-lukuiset aikuisrock-vaikutteet uudelle tasolle. Indien ja soft rockin ohella Destroyerin äänimaisemissa on kuultavissa vaikutteita myös varhaisesta glam rockista, new wavesta, diskosta ja folkista. The New Pornographers- ja Swan Lake -yhtyeistä tuttu keulahahmo Bejar kuvaileekin Destroyerin soundia [...]

Welcome to Dissected , where we disassemble a band’s catalog in the abstract. It’s exact science by way of a few beers. Spencer Krug : The Man, The Myth, The Keyboardist. Many have attempted to put the 34 year old British Colombian in a classifiable box, but few have succeeded, if any. Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Moonface, Frog Eyes, Fifths of Seven, Swan Lake: these are not the names of zoo exhibits, resort massage packages, metropolitan ballets, or time signatures, but the seemingly never-ending musical outlets with which Krug is associated. Under the Wolf Parade moniker, [...]
Plus, listen to two new remixes.

Tweet vaso link Despite what some of my family may believe to the contrary, I pride myself on being fairly open-minded when it comes to music. I'll give most anything a chance at least cursorily, but I'll admit some music has the odds stacked against it and needs to be on its game from the word go (i.e. vapid garbage like Katy Perry). Dan Bejar's 2011 effort with Destroyer, entitled Kaputt , likely earned the harshest negative reviews I assigned to an album [...]
Tranquilos.

I like Destroyer. The Canadian producer/band (I'm not sure even he knows quite what the make-up of the project is as it changes members so much) makes slightly spacy, intelligent and really good music. Last year he released Kaputt , which was great. As I liked it so much I'm going to share a couple of my favourite tracks from it in the hope that you'll like them enough to go out and buy it and listen to it lots. He's also a key member of The New Pornographers, so if you like this you'll like them, and vice [...]
British music magazine MOJO released a compilation of New Order covers, with thirteen artists tackling the band’s 1983 classic Power, Corruption & Lies. Destroyer tackled "Leave Me Alone"

6. Destroyer, Kaputt : Dan Bejar has finally found a medium between experimentation and his talent for being a great songwriter. Reverberated saxophones flood Bejar's half-talked, half-sung vocal delivery, while trumpets and flutes disguise themselves behind luscious piano. The album maintains momentum, contrasting against Bejar's sad disposition with upbeat, syncopated bass and drums. "Kaputt" Loopy synths soaring high above the horizon and vocal harmonies between Bejar and a guest contributor, make the title track stand out. Although not the most important part of the song, the contributions by trumpet and saxophone help with [...]

We'll continue today with our top 25 countdown with albums #15 through #11. #15: Destroyer - Kaputt Dan Bejar is somewhat off-putting at times. The super-literate and carving intellectual drive of his work with Destroyer and The New Pornographers , mixed with his Gordon Gano-like vocal renditions were a constant confinement [...]

This Music Wins Albums Of 2011 #1 // 40 - 31 continued from part #1 #40 Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost (True Panther Sounds) Arguably Girls ’ most courageous attempt yet, here the San Francisco surf rock band venture in to the realm of classic rock, not stopping short of cheesy licks, walking bass-lines or even gospel choirs. The soulful backing singers and hammond organs characterise most of ‘Vomit’, a song which strikes at [...]
Pop music may have saved many of our lives, but it's not like anyone makes it out of a purely altruistic impulse. The creation of music, or any kind of art, is primarily a selfish act, born out of a desperate and compulsive need to expunge and express. The creation is meant to help the artist [...]

Here is the fourth album that I am reviewing the shortlist nominees in alphabetically order. It is Destroyer 's Kaputt. This album came out on January 25, 2011. Since it's release the album has gain critical praise. Depending on how the juror members will vote. This album is one of three albums that will be a shoe-in to win. With it's unique lyrics (One was about doing coke) and it's music styling. As for myself (going to pull a Madonna) I absolutely loathe this [...]

Kirjoituksesta ja kuvista vastaa Hannu. Laajempi kuvagalleria @ Flickr . Flow 2011 alkoi erittäin positiivisella yllätyksellä. Festivaalialuetta oli muokattu totaalisen uuteen uskoon. Laajennettu alue pitää sisällään uusia esiintymislavoja, hämyisiä elokuvamestoja, askartelupaikkoja ja ties mitä. Joku kertoi alueelta löytyvän jopa neppisradan. Me likes! [...]
(Right Link + "Save Link As" = Download) Moonface - "Return to the Violence of the Ocean Floor" Moonface - "Fast Peter" While I'm certainly not a Spencer Krug fanatic (ie. I never tried Swan Lake , I enjoy only about half of Sunset Rubdown's discography ), his most recent solo record under the moniker Moonface is hitting the spot. While influential sites are giving mediocre reviews of Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped , I find the record relaxing [...]
