Summer solstice means the official first day of Summer here in the Northern Hemisphere. It's the season I most look forward to every year. When I was a kid I remember looking forward to all the horseplay that Summer vacation entailed. Now I get to look forward to countless pool parties, cocktails, and producers coming out with their summeriest jams. If you frequent Pete Tong's show on BBC Radio 1 , then you will be familiar with this track. So far it's the hottest one I've heard this summer and will surely be played in beaches, boats, pool parties, [...]

I recently made a post including this guy with a remix of one of his tracks from the latest kitsune compilation. I have to give them his own feature though because he's been my latest favorite. The blend of indie-pop with melodic dance is an instant formula for my affection. T.E.E.D. has been hard at work releasing various EPs and singles that have all been solid gold. The latest single, Trouble, takes the cake in my opinion.++ Check it out. iTunes | Soundcloud | Facebook Totally [...]

I've supported Portland music since I first got introduced to indie rock and the growing movements happening in my great hometown. Yacht is another iconic band that has put Portland on the map for their emergence as a music city capital. Yacht's forthcoming album, Shangri-la , is a testament to the undefinable style that the duo have managed to concoct; very reminiscent of the city's character.++ Check out a few selections here and be sure to snag the album when it's released. June 21st via DFA . Purchase | Facebook | [...]

Mix Chopin is an awesome tender-aged Disco-House producer based out of Toronto. He is both resurrecting and progressing the genre in one fell swoop. His forthcoming Love Story EP is being released by Shiny Disco Club in France this summer. His sound definitely melds well with our style here at Bootsnkatz, so we are excited and grateful that he took the time to converse with us.++ First off, you’ve been known to use several analogue synths and instruments into your productions. What does your home studio look like? [...]

Hey, why not? Yesterday I posted part 1 of Poolside's debut mixtape. The 2nd installment was just released on their soundcloud an hour ago. I figured I'd post the follow up, so here it is. If you haven't yet heard the 'Day' portion I would recommend doing so. You can find it in our previous post . I'm really digging this one, perhaps the other portion was merely an appetizer.++ Poolside - Night mixtape by Poolside Music Cheers++ Vividid

Here is the first installment of a two part mixtape from the boys of Poolside . There was a lot of stir from my original Poolside post of the rough mix of their now instant hit. I hear they're top 40 in Belgium! I recently met their manager who is founder of Echo Park Records , as well as in charge of all the fun Rhonda nights, super all-around rad dude. I'm going to work with him to get you guys exclusive content from his artists in the coming months. In the meantime chill out to [...]

Today I'm going to talk about an album that I've overlooked until recently. I checked out Boombox's latest downriverelectric per a friend's suggestion. This friend knows me very well, because I instantly dug the smooth and groove vibes the album puts out. Good riffy guitar hooks and a grooving bass are pretty much the framework of my musical taste, not to mention innovation and originality.++ The album certainly projects all of the above sentiments in a friendly and modest timbre. I highly recommend snagging this entire album. Purchase the album here . [...]

I took this snap of Bit Funk during his last show at the Avalon with Treasure Fingers and Grum . He recently posted a new remix of his upcoming single by Ghosts of Venice . It isn't the first time they've exchanged remixes, he did his own rendition of their song 'Her'. Stay posted for an interview with Stephen, I even managed to snag some video of the performance.++ I'm really looking forward to the release of his EP, I got to hear some tidbits while we were jammin' for a bit back at my house. [...]

So it wasn't doomsday afterall. The dreaded and prophesied rapture just ended up being a hoax and we have another shot at redemption. Recently on my radar has been the latest Kitsune compilation. They are on their 11th edition. The ones that have preceded this one have just been terrific. They are always a great resource of upcoming indie acts. They're always fun, poppy, and fresh. This edition is no different. Bootsnkatz friends Beat Connection are featured in this compilation, as well as some of our other favorites like the Magician and Cosmonaut [...]

The Rapture was officially the first indie concert I went to in my now decorated prowess. They will always hold a very special place in my heart. After seeing their AMAZING live show, I became an instant aficionado for indie rock shows. It is only fitting that I be listening to them on our last day here on earth. If the Earth indeed will cease to exist today, we may as well go out with a bang. If you are regretting never having seen them live during our short lives, we can only hope that tomorrow brings redemption. I give [...]

I remember seeing SebastiAn as one of the opener DJs for Daft Punk's Seattle show in 2007. His new album, Total , will be released through Ed Banger May 29th. Featured in it are the vocals of Mayer Hawthorne and MIA. There are 22 tracks in Total, including several interludes. His hit song 'Ross Ross Ross' makes an appearance in this album. Be sure to get your hands on a copy of the album when it releases. If you're into the harder/ intricate/chopped up stylings of French Electro House, you will certainly enjoy this album. I [...]

I'm getting ready to go to the Standard Hotel in Downtown LA to hang out poolside and watch U-tern on the decks. Before I did, I wanted to leave you a little something to keep you grooving through the weekend. Justin Faust just released a groovy mixtape on his soundcloud the other day. The mix features new jams from Louis La Roche , Treasure Fingers , and our good friend Hemingway . It's a good one.++ Enjoy! Soundcloud | Facebook [...]

Last time I saw them play was during Thanksgiving weekend in Portland at the Doug Fir Lounge . The XX was opening for them in their first west coast stint. The show was very fun needless to say. The boys bring a lot of energy to however small the stage may be. Lot's and Lot's of dancing. I have been very eagerly anticipating the release of this album, Pala . It has a lot of energy, few tracks have jumped out at me yet, but it certainly has the friendly fires flavor of the last album [...]

Bob Sinclar is French producer DJ, who to me was always known as a French House producer. He however has been all over the map in producing music from various genres including hip hop and reggae. His latest single is a definite departure from that style and takes on a more Yolanda Be Cool facade. He is currently embarking on a long European tour this Summer, only making one stop in North American soil via the beaches of Miami. Below are two songs to make the comparison first is old the latter is new both are about love, [...]
It was the summer of 2009 and in the stuffy attic of a Seattle home, Beat Connection was born. Reed Juenger and Jordan Koplowitz, fresh off their freshman year at the University of Washington, began the process of recording Surf Noir , the electro-pop EP that would garner attention across the blogosphere including a mention on the hollowed pages of Pitchfork for their single “In the Water.” Most important of all, the album eventually caught the eye of Tender Age records, a U.S. transplant of Moshi Moshi (responsible for big names like Hot Chip, Lykke Li, The Very Best, [...]

Well, THIS is a pleasant surprise! American Idol alum Jordin Sparks is set to release the first single off of her upcoming third album next Tuesday. Due out digitally on May 10th , " I Am Woman " marks a decidedly different musical direction for Sparks, who's last album was a mixed bag - both critically and chart performance-wise. " I Am Woman " is less syrupy sweet than previous [...]

When I hear the name Tesla Boy I immediately think of the sleek electric roadsters . I got the chance to ride shotgun on one of those bad boys a few times when I was working for a mega pop-music producer that I'll leave anonymous at the moment. He did a lot of showing off to show how fast the car could accelerate and handle the curves of Mulhulland Dive. The craziest and most noticeable part about it, is it doesn't make a peep. The only sound that can be heard are the wheels spinning. It really feels like [...]

photo courtesy of: Chris Camargo This is a very fitting post for our blog. As some of you know we are based out of LA and Portland, OR and often we cover the rising talent to come out of our local cities. Occasionally, however, we get the rare chance to feature something that comes from both cities. Classixx has been one of my favorite LA acts for a long time. I've listened to them since they we known as the Young Americans. I hear they are working on their first full LP in their studio [...]

I recently heard the latest Metronomy album, The English Riviera . WOW. From a first listen, it easily and instantly has become one of my favorite releases this year. The production has a different quality to it than their previous releases. This album features studio production over programming and home recording. Real live instrumentation is brought out in their sound which alludes to a very vintage quality while fusing with mordern electronic indie pop, giving a fresh new take on the genre. Fresh is certainly a key word in describing Metronomy's sound. It breathes new life into [...]

Great day today. I'm currently watching the Copa Del Rey final between FC Barca and Real Madrid while grooving out to a new mix tape.++ Yesterday the Magician released his latest mix on Sound Cloud. As always there is no tracklisting to be found however it is known to include his latest remix of Yuksek's new single. It is available for free download just press the ↓ button.
