It's February and love is in the air. I have a confession to make. I'm in love with a married man.

Ten Best Albums of 2011 So, the thing with my list this year is that I've been fortunate enough to have either shared a stage, been on a movie soundtrack together, recorded an album with, spent many quality years as close friends, or at the very least, created some memories over some good times with all but two of the bands represented here. However, none of these disclosures swayed my opinion in naming their recordings as the best to come out this year, they're just all that damn good, and I just happen to know them. [...]
perfectmidnightworld : "Ribbons and Detours" by Silversun Pickups // Seasick (2011) Well, this is a pleasant surprise. I hadn't really given much thought to Silversun Pickups in recent months as I just assumed they were hard at work on a new album somewhere, but then they go and release a three track EP of previously unreleased tracks from the Swoon sessions to hold us over until the release the of the new album in Spring. The release is a record store day release [...]
A warm welcome to America for Australia's Guineafowl and their summery indie pop.

If you haven't heard of Guineafowl until now, we'll forgive you, as we're just catching onto the band ourselves. The Australian group is coming to the States to support the release of their Guineafowl EP. The feel of their first US single totally epitomizes my need for high-fueled energy on Wednesday; it's got bits of stomping, yet I can sort of hear that blissful swoon of the Dears hiding beneath their guitar work lines. Just sort of imagine blending pieces of eclectic elements with bits of [...]

Ken Casey of The Dropkick Murphy s and their new manager Jeff Castelaz , the CEO Dangerbird Records join Topspin Record's Ian Rogers on This Week In Music to talk about the band's success, most of which has been self-created outside of the mainstream music industry. Roger's daughter Zoe , who dj's on Boston's legendary WUMB , drops in near the end of the show to talk music.

Sunset Junction, who needs ya? That seemed to be the attitude on Saturday as Silver Lake, Echo Park and downtown sprang to life on Saturday, with music venues and other businesses opening their doors to bands displaced by the cancellation of the annual street fair . Fans shuttled to and from locales hosting day- and nighttime shows, giving the Eastside a distinct SXSW feel. One such show was the day party in the backyard at Dangerbird Records, co-hosted by 98.7 FM and Buzz Bands LA, which featured a show-stealing performance by L.A. five-piece Vanaprasta, a dynamite turn [...]

[In response to the inevitable questions I am asked at shows — What have you heard? What are you listening to? What's new? — today I embark on something called Random Dispatches ... the contents of my notebook, spilt.] ► Lavender Diamond's recent show at the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts was a revelation, and not merely because we hadn't heard much from Lavender Diamond since singer Becky Stark and the band released "Imagine Our Love" in 2007. The [...]

There's a sad irony in the fact that the One AM Radio's video for "Everything Falls Apart" emerged this week, as the band's label Dangerbird Records retrenched , but that's shouldn't detract one bit from glitchy, slow-motion splendor of Hrishikesh Hirway's tune. On "Heaven Is Attached by a Slender Thread," the songwriter/producer's fourth album and second for Dangerbird, Hirway uses his beats as a gentle framework for his almost-too-languid pop songs. Keyboardist Fontaine Cole's lead vocals provide a nifty change of pace on "Ticking Heart" and "A City Without Seasons" ("It's hard to measure time / in [...]
