One thing I realized once after watching Danny Brown's crowing laughter is that if you're ever in a bad mood, just watching other people crack up can make you feel better. It's a fun way to trick your brain into making you feel happy even though you are really miserable! Here are some of our favorite and least favorite musicians and their funny, silly, crazy laughs. LOL ROFL Lil B Sometimes you can't really tell if someone is crazy and then you hear their laugh and you're like, "Damn, they are fucking crazy." Jay-Z Jay-Z [...]

The role of the music video is a little unclear in 2012. It's certainly not for television anymore. With parody clips, cat fails, and random viral disasters racking up the pageviews on the Internet, it sometimes seems like wasted effort to put effort into making a creative, time consuming, well-done set of visuals. We're glad that artists are still doing it, though. The year's best music videos are also some of the most creative. Sometimes it was a trippy, mind-blowing type of creativity, and other times it was more subtle. Whatever the approach, each one of these videos is thought [...]

2012 was a great year for collaborations, and an even better year for surprises. The rising stars of rap, pop, and indie all worked together as we might have expected, but some of the best pairings took place in the form of odd couples. We saw some things we never would have expected, and the year was better off for it. Here are some of our favorite unholy unions of the year. no lie i just finished something with @ psy_oppa and @ 2chainz the mayan calendar predicted this — dıpןo (@diplo) December 4, 2012 [...]
Here at Potholes, we love us some Nardwuar. I mean, who doesn't love the Human Serviette? He's probably the most well-known music journalist to geeks like me—and the other folks who scribble down digital thoughts on here. He's also capable of grounding most artists and making them realize it's a damn privilege to be talking to someone who's both knowledgeable and entertaining. Yeah, some of you hate his shtick, but you can't act like he hasn't surprised you with his deeper-than-fucking-Wikipedia smarts. Now, if only he could do another interview with Questlove—seriously, if you haven't watched it, [...]

Welcome to the end of 2012. And possibly the world as a whole if you're so inclined to believe. Once again, we've taken the stray thoughts that fell through the cracks in our Annual Report and compiled them into one (hopefully) comedic list. As my esteemed colleague Jeremy Larson wrote last year , "Year-end summaries, lists, recaps, and reports are just study guides for an exam that’s never happening, you guys ." True, but by listing things and poking a little fun, we're doing our part to remind you that the music industry can be [...]

This marks the end of the first year of running music video blog, Seen Your Video , and there's been an explosion of talent in music videos in 2012. Unlike some years that have been dominated by an elite group of ultra-talented directors, this year saw a much more diverse collection of incredible visual artists and a swarm of new talent taking center stage. Among the up-and-coming directors that impressed me this year are Emily Kai Bock , who's received much acclaim for her aesthetically cutting-edge work and Ninian Doff [...]

Despite our compilations of the week's best videos, it's difficult to remember many of them for long. Each week brings something new to marvel at and yada yada yada your mind totally erases any memory of that Kanye West video you gasped at while eating cereal one Thursday in April. Whereas you can essentially live with a song, most videos are consumed with what amounts to a glance and a nod. Granted, that's not the case for all of them, and, hey, wouldn't you know that's why we're sitting here with 25 of them in December. So, [...]

At ginormous festivals like Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza, it's pretty tough to craft a narrative - when there's something like 200 bands playing over a weekend, it's next to impossible to really sew a singular thread through the weekend's performances. Pitchfork Music Festival is much smaller - 45 bands in three days - so, it's a lot easier to derive the daily theme. And while Saturday brought forth another occurrence of Friday's soaking, poncho-industry-fueling rainstorms, Saturday's lineup also featured a few tack-worthy talking points, with Grimes going head to head with Godspeed! You Black Emperor, Flying Lotus and Sleigh Bells catering [...]
