This quest post is by Dave Allen , digital pundit , bass player for Gang Of Four and CASH Music board member. The online music "business" has long been a minefield for musicians, especially unsigned independent musicians. When the default business plan for streaming services such as Spotify , Pandora and Mog , is to raise investor money, license music from the recording labels and then launch a service that requires advertising in the stream, [...]

Gang of Four - "Never Pay for the Farm" I am one of the die-hard GO4 fans who made a pledge earlier this year via PledgeMusic to help fund GO4's forthcoming disc Content . Not having the funds to afford a helicopter ride home to London from Glastonbury (£950), I opted for the "Ultimate Content Can" (£45). This can contains " the new album on CD, a book version, on paper, of an art piece that Jon and Andy have [...]

Post-punk band Gang of Four are readying the release of their first set of new songs since 1995's Shrinkwrapped with a Pledgemusic campaign to support the release of their new album Content . Pledge gifts range from signed CDs, limited edition white label LPs and hand-written lyrics to a private concert, copies of the band's first show (Leeds '77) and Andy Gill's mixing services. Here is Andy & John's posting from the band's MySpace page: "Making [...]

Is it hyperbole if it's said with sincerity? Even a cursory listen to the work of Gang of Four reveals two very simple truths. This band who released their first album in 1979 made music that has been an influence on an amazing number of bands and some (like Bloc Party) owe their careers to the their innovative style. Despite his modesty, bass player Dave Allen was part of one of the great rhythm sections of all-time. Coupled with Drummer Hugo Burnham, they were not only talented musicians but had the ability to write music that showed those talents without [...]

Ok, here's the thing. At the Ripple, we're proud to confess our membership in the Dave Allen Groupie Club. Whether his pioneering work with Gang of Four , his funk blow-outs with Shriekback , his big sound swamp rock with King Swamp , or any of his other projects, Dave Allen never fails to amaze, entertain, and some times boggle our minds. With that lead in, we're thrilled to learn that Polyvinyl Records released Dave's new project, Faux Hoax , "Your Friends Will Carry You Home," on May 19, 2009. [...]

Polyvinyl just sent out some information about this new project/band Faux Hoax which is set to release an EP on the label. There is always room in this world for dead comedians, eh? I think sometimes dead comedians are funnier than live ones...so this one's for Dave Allen . Dave Allen was born July 6, 1936. In 1959 he got a break by appearing on a talent show called New Faces , and he made a name for himself in the 1960's. In 1961 he toured England and France with the then unknown band The Beatles . He was famous for sitting on a stool on stage drinking whisky and smoking. I remember, way back [...]

Click image to watch and listen. I'm fairly coherent in this one...
So after calling it a day with Gang of Four in early 2008, I turned my attention to getting some music recorded and released by Faux Hoax, a whacky trio consisting of myself, John Askew of Tracker and FILMguerrero, and Danny Seim of Menomena and Lackthereof. Well, due to all of our conflicting schedules things [...]
Look what arrived in the mail today, a Gang of Four biography. Just skimmed it. Lots of fun facts, lots of inaccuracies. More later.
