Dirty Projectors capo Dave Longstreth's been on the lam since his band's triumphant Bitte Orca (and its Björk-bolstered sibling Mount Wittenberg Orca ), spending time in more rustic locales quite literally shedding on a new record. We don't know exactly when the new record will be done this year, or what it will be called, though for a band this intentional, it's fair to assume that a DJ set at a museum on the Upper West Side is a signal that their return to the country's urban centers is [...]

Link: http://www.spin.com/articles/d irty-projectors-embrace-horror -respond-strokes-new-lp R u ready for a new Dirty Projectors album cycle? They were a member of the fabled buzzyear that was 2k9. My, how indie has fallen...:-( #darkness.... Any1 who knows abt the Dirty Projectors know that it is headed by Dave Longstreth , and he is basically like a cult leader who views himself as the 'genius' behind the band. He had actually been 'trying to make it' as a buzzband for a while, then he [...]
"Holy shit!" exclaimed Dirty Projectors frontman Dave Longstreth, after hearing a list of Oxegen 2010's headliners: Arcade Fire, Muse, Black Eyed Peas, Eminem, John Mayer, Fatboy Slim. "Those are like, all of my favorite bands!" Amidst a line-up saturated in mainstream pop and corporate indie rock bands, the Brooklyn-based Dirty Projectors are a standout experimental pop gem at this year's Oxegen. Their seventh studio album, Bitte Orca , is a complex take on pop sounds, most notably in its intricate use of vocal harmonies and melodies. Named of the of [...]
Not content to follow suit, Dirty Projectors' use of space opens the sonic horizon to a dimension undefinable.

Yeah, I know...it's March. Presidents Day has passed and McDonalds is already selling Shamrock Shakes...a little late for the Best of 2009, but here we are. I never claimed to be one for timeliness, especially of late. For simplicity sake, the numbers associated with this list are just arbitrary...it's pretty hard to rank things objectively, but the following is what I liked best about the shitty year that was 2009: 1. Dananananakroyd - Hey Everyone! Cheeky band name aside, Hey Everyone! is an [...]
'Twas a fun day in music news. Lots of bits to choose from, and I'm real proud of the updates we settled on. Here are some other stories that caught my eye… Thomas Goetz tries to make the claim, in his new book The Decision Tree , that the Beatles, via 6 degrees of WTF, are responsible for the American healthcare crisis . An engineer at the to-be-eBayed Abbey Road Studios helped rake in so much of that sweet Beatles dough, you see, that [...]

So Dave and the DP crew are getting together to play their 2005 album The Getty Address in full later this month at a couple venues. When it came out, the album garnered some slight critical praise but went largely unnoticed. Now, they'll be playing it to sold out ballrooms backed by world-renowned orchestras (Alarm Will Sound Orchestra in NYC and the Los Angeles Philharmonic in L.A.). That's a much cooler retrospective middle finger to the haters (and the ignorers we suppose) than anything anyone has ever broadcast on Twitter. Another feather in Longstreth's cap, the e-mail we [...]

The crowd at the Dirty Projectors ' set at Chicago's Bottom Lounge Friday night was anything but calm. Perhaps it was the buzz of a new weekend, or that opener and one-woman band Tune-Yards wound up the crowd to show off her voice-manipulating antics. Dave Longstreth took to the stage to applause and drunken shouts, starting things off with a solo version of an older song, "Like Fake Blood In Crisp October." Singing over cries of "D-Long" and the ever popular "Woooo!" from some inebriated folks in the crowd, Longstreth [...]
Probably the most divisive band of 2008-2009, Dirty Projectors, stopped by our favorite new late night host Jimmy Fallon's show last night and debuted another Dave Longstreth-penned masterpiece, "When The World Comes To And End". It's emblazoned with the usual...
I wish I had better words for each member's abilities, truth be told. But I ended up completely losing my shit that night as the band seemed to strike the main vein. I was overcome to the point where all I could do was bust into my best truffle shuffle and badly sing along with each harmony. It's what I'd imagine Grateful Dead fans felt like in the '80s (no irony). I was nothing but powerless.
I saw Dirty Projects last night. I bought the LP and lay in bed this morning listening to both sides. I'm sure you've already heard it, so instead of writing anything meaningful/stupid (Are Dirty Projectors the first TRUE math-pop band?) and instead of trying to say something NEW, I will add to the archive and say something old: Dave Longstreth - Spring is Here Dave Longstreth - I Don't Know from the Graceful Fallen Mango [This Heart Plays [...]

I want to take a swim in Dave Longstreth 's gray matter. Just a little dip. The eccentric leader of Brooklyn's Dirty Projectors has created another ADD-riddled album in Bitte Orca -and by all accounts, it's much tamer than the band's previous efforts. It's my first exposure to the band. Interestingly for how sprawling Bitte Orca is, I was hooked within 30 seconds. I like artists that push the boundaries by simply doing what comes natural, where the music/words/art are a very short extension of the creator's mind. [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: Dirty Projectors - Bitte Orca words: Jamie Milton originally scribed for thisisfakediy Making what you do best 'user friendly' is a horrible process, bordering on torturous. From a reviewer's perspective, it takes talent and guts to become a Smash Hits writer. From a musician's perspective the same blood, sweat and tears have been necessary for Dirty Projectors in transferring their inventive, exploratory ideas into something more simplified and accessible. It's not as if record sales are at the edge of Dave Longstreth's lips - perhaps it's [...]
Exclusive preview of Dirty Projectors' "Stillness Is the Move" from their new album, Bitte Orca.

Listening to Dirty Projectors usually requires your undivided attention to plumb the depths of Dave Longstreth's labyrinthine musical mind. This is the case whether he is re-imagining a punk album (as on Rise Above) or writing a rock opera paying tribute to Don Henley ( The Getty Address ). In the group's latest album, it feels as if Longstreth has emerged from his cerebral musical world to take stock of the simpler things, and found them worth setting to music as well. The result is a sun-drenched tracklist which manages to retain the unexpected rhythms and [...]

I know, I know. How predictable. But I just got this album today and it is this wonderfully varied, 90s-inspired, reggae-inspired merry-go-round ride. I love Amber Coffman and Angel Deradoorian's bigger presence on the album, best exhibited on this track. This album is one of the best of the year, easily, easily.

Dirty Projectors - Stillness Is the Move I've seen the Dirty Projectors a few times now but what drew me to their show last week at La Scala was the strength of the new material, as broadcast by NPR from the band's set at SXSW recently. They have outdone themselves this time (particularly the interplay between Angel and Amber) and Bitte Orca is set to be one of the most impressive albums of 2009. To call it more accessible would be misguided; accessibility doesn't factor into Longstreth's musical [...]
