Joe writes: Obviously the best Christmas record ever is Fairytale of New York and the best Christmas album ever is the Phil Spector one . Here are three less obvious choices 3) Christmas Song - Dave Matthews Band. From the Platinum Christmas album which also contains two other really good Christmas originals by Dido and R Kelly. Maybe I'll post those next year. 2) O Tannenbaum - The Vince Guaraldi Trio. An essential purchase at this time of year is the [...]

The fans, the fans, the fans. It's who all bands take the time to acknowledge. At concerts, artists will always shout out partially histrionic statements like, "We couldn't do this without you...the fans!" And as a result, every fan's devotion soars through the roof (if not eternally). It's somewhat silly, though, not to realize that the fans do make everything possible. People like bands, so they buy their records, see their shows, sometimes blog about them (hey there), "Like" their Facebook pages, live chat with them on Twitter, and on super-rare occasions, even get to meet them . It's [...]

D.a.N.'s "Don't Stop" mashup runs through quite a few samples with ease, but at times feels off. One listen I'll be feeling it all the way through, while another I'll catch a few transitions that sound more like two songs than a harmonious one. D.a.N.'s biggest strength is his diversity in sounds, but at the same time that makes it all the more tricky to get just right. There's a lot of potential here, but keeping it all fluid & flowing well will be D.a.N.'s biggest challenge. D.a.N. - Don't Stop [...]

So, for all the shit that I've given Nickelback over the years, apparently it has been warranted - at least a little bit. A blog calling itself Tastebuds.fm has named the Canadian rockers the " number one musical turnoff ." Tastebuds, a similar site to Last.fm, did their research thusly: Each user was allowed to specify up to 12 acts that turned them off. Nickelback – regularly lambasted by the music press – came out on top with almost 13% of users specifying their brand of grunge rock [...]
Having released her third studio album, Chesapeake , earlier this month, veteran songstress Rachael Yamagata emerges from the confines of her instrument-laden, makeshift studio with a terrifically robust 10-song album and a 45-city nationwide tour which started yesterday. Click here to view the embedded video. Together with producer John Alagia , the man behind artists like John Mayer , Jason Mraz and most notably, Dave Matthews Band , with refreshing earnestness and vibrancy, Yamagata proves she is still among the best at articulating that grey space between lost love [...]

Photo by Meghan Brosnan After hitting the road with his very own traveling festival this summer and having to reschedule the climactic Governor's Island date due to some tropical chick named Irene, it's only fitting that Dave Matthews would want to mellow out for a bit. Thankfully, there's no better way to take it easy than with a pair of solo acoustic shows alongside fellow guitar-maestro Tim Reynolds . On November 18th and 19th, the two will play a pair of East coast gigs, beginning [...]
