WORLDS END PRESS have certainly come a hell of a long way since the days of their bright and eccentric electro-pop releases. And the release of their new single, 'Deadbeat Sweetheart' is the perfect supporting evidence in our argument. 'Deadbeat Sweetheart' is the first taste from WEP 's forthcoming debut album. Coming in at around 7 minutes, this is definitely not your typical dance-pop, early local set at Groovin' The Moo kind of track. This is a brooding take on a genre that is developing quicker than we can [...]

Good morning! Hope your week has improved as much as mine has. We have three stellar tracks to share today from St Tropez, Blind Architect, and the new Josh Mease project, Lapland. St Tropez - "In Pictures" Single out now on Bandcamp This San Francisco-based quartet just released my new 'jam'. On their best single to date, St Tropez's "In Pictures" moves from listless melancholy to jubilant explosion. [...]

Clif's top ten list for 2012 with twenty others receiving honorable mention: 10. Cat Meat – Cat Meat We previewed Cat Meat’s self-titled debut as a Friday Free Feature on November 9, and it’s been in constant rotation between my iPod and car stereo. A complex, experimental alt. country/folk album that claims influences such as Wilco, Sparklehorse and Califone; the classic psychedelic experimenalist, Captain Beefheart; and the legendary bluesmen Mississippi John Hurt and Blind Willie McTell. When you listen, they’re all there in subtle drips, drabs and dollops. [...]

TALKING HEADS are not only just that genre re-defining New Wave band of the 70s and 80s, but TALKING HEADS also happen to be the holders of Stop Making Sense , which is probably the greatest concert DVD to currently be in existence. Think I’m being mighty audacious? well hold up, and let me explain. Think of all those traditions of the 'Concert Film'. Think the over-longed audience pans, the blinding stage lights, the cock-straddling guitar solos, schizophrenic camera-cuts and the [...]

The title of this album is incorrect or, rather, incomplete. Yes, this is a collaboration between David Byrne and Annie Clark of St. Vincent but there's a third, equally important member: the brass. Love This Giant , out on 4AD/Todo Mundo , is absolutely packed with brass sections, melodies, and blasts. It gives off a temporal vibe, especially when placed in contrast with the electronic flourishes that are provided by the two talented musicians. Each track finds a new way to use the instruments [...]

David Byrne and St. Vincent have shared the second track from their forthcoming brassy collaborative album, Love This Giant . "Weekend In The Dust" doesn't feature any vocals from the Talking Heads leader, but St. Vincent makes that up with what has got to be the catchiest hook she's ever written. Listen to the track on their website ; check out first single "Who" below if you haven't already. Love This Giant is out September 11th. [...]

When LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy isn't DJing at London's Boiler Room , he's giving talks at Yale with fellow musician and Talking Heads frontman David Byrnes . The two took part in a Yale discussion series called " Art and Music" last month, where they discussed many aspects of New York, but most notably the city's noisy subway turnstiles. Here's what Murphy had to say on the matter: All the subway turnstiles in New York City...make a beep. It's a really unpleasant sound and the one that's [...]

Tweet There's a jangled brush in "The Dive," the lead track on Los Angeles band Fool's Gold's sophomore release "Leave No Trace." It's a tightly confined cross-breed of Western African harmonies and contemporary pop aesthetics. That should sound familiar: it isn't too far off the well-worn path already travelled by Talking Heads and, even more recently, bands like the Dirty Projectors. Lead singer Luke Top at times even corrals his best David Byrne, such as on "Wild Window", although the [...]
2010 was, without a doubt, Arcade Fire's biggest year - what with releasing the critically adored, chart-topping and Album of the Year GRAMMY Award-winning The Suburbs . Now, nearly a year after the album's release, the band's record label, Merge, is dropping a deluxe version of the record which will feature two previously unheard songs. Tweet It was almost exactly a year to the day when Arcade Fire started dropping some 123 vinyl singles in record stores across the world, much to the surprise of everyone. People were cropping up online posting pictures of this vinyl that wasn't announced by the band, something that shoppers were finding randomly littered amongst other vinyls in their local shop. That was "The Suburbs"/"Month Of May" , the first new music from the band in three years since 20072s [...]
