Is it early?!! It's that time of the year where everyone compiles their best of 2012 list. I do have my best of albums (Canadian and Non-Canadian) but it's still in a work in progress. For now I decided to make my list of the best live shows I've been to in 2012. Since it's 2012, why not make it a Top 12. There will be some of the shows that didn't take place in Ottawa but was simply "WOW!" when I happened to catch that show. So here is my top 12 shows [...]

It's Friday, which means we have arrived at the end of my Top 50 Songs Of 2012 list! I hope you've had a good time perusing the previous 40. In case you somehow missed this little bit of info, I chose the songs from the 400+ tracks that I shared around here throughout the last 11 months. Enjoy. 10) : Icona Pop - I Love It : Much of my 2012 was spent looking to this electropop number for a burst of fun. I just kind of adore how obnoxious it is. From the [...]

Ah, the holidays. A time for family, friends, food, celebrations, and, of course, stress. This time of year comes as a double-edged sword in that it's both joyous but incredibly taxing. So in an effort to help cross one thing off your to-do list, we've lent a hand with the guest list and rounded up 12 musicians you should invite for Thanksgiving dinner. Granted, none of them are your average Martha Stewarts, but it's safe to say that what they lack in domestic skills, they definitely make up for in entertainment. Regardless of how the turkey tastes, it's sure to [...]
It's time again to look at those songs we all need most; the ones that make our work day faster. This is the annual Caffeinated Consciousness list for 2012! It is time once again to compile the list obligatory's Caffeinated Consciousness list. Those of us who have to keep [...]

It's no secret here at P&P that we love Annie Clark (or as she's better known, St. Vincent ). And just when we thought our love couldn't get any deeper, the singer, alongside David Byrne , braved the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and stopped by The Colbert Report for a hilariously adorable interview. The duo, who recently released their excellent joint album Love This Giant , discussed what it's like living in Manhattan after Sandy, their process behind making Love This Giant , and even a proposed group shower with Colbert. Check [...]

David Byrne and St. Vincent , aka Annie Clark, aren't too fond of Hurricane Sandy. The force of nature nixed their plans to appear on Letterman Tuesday night, and according to a recent newsletter from Byrne, he'll be climbing "11 flights with a flashlight up a dark stairway" until New York City gets full power and working water again. Still, the two made it out to The Colbert Report last night, where they had a chat and performed material off last month's Love This Giant . "I love things [...]

The band's debut album, An Awesome Wave , had won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize, an award for the best UK album of the year. And they're in good company, too: over the past twenty years, the prize has gone to classic albums like Portishead's Dummy and Pulp's Different Class . David Byrne and St. Vincent stopped by the Colbert Report for a brief interview and performed "Who." Watch both videos below: ...
Love This Giant is the new collaboration between St. Vincent and former Talking Heads singer David Byrne. As I said when I first posted about it in July, this seemingly strange pairing made perfect sense to me since they share a flare for the eccentric. The album as a whole doesn't quite live up to [...]

all photos by Dave Lichterman Back in 1984, in an interview with himself , Talking Heads' David Byrne stated that he would tour again "when there is something new to say to an audience." While the songs themselves need not be new, the performance should be fresh and inventive, which in those days meant donning an oversized suit, serenading a floor lamp, and having band members appear one at a time. Their concert film of that year, Stop Making Sense , now has such significance for Talking Heads die-hards because it was [...]

The term "supergroup" is often used to refer to a set of musicians who are best known in association with their respective bands - musicians who haven't necessarily operated as solitary acts in their own right, and are culled together to see what their individual untapped energies will create when synthesized. By contrast, when speaking [...]

Photograph of David Bryne and St. Vincent by Julie Logan Mixed in between grungy and disgruntled homeless people on Market St. last night, St. Vincent and David Bryne played to a rapt crowd at the Orpheum Theatre. As a plush theatre intended for musicals and plays rather than concerts, the venue was a huge hindrance. Adoring fans so energized by the show had to take to the aisles or dance between chairs with the short awkward movements of David Bryne. I can just imagine the delighted chaos that would have ensued at a venue [...]

There was a lot of brass at Saturday night's concert featuring David Byrne & St. Vincent at the Greek Theatre — including a little from Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent), who confessed that the first time she was exposed to Byrne's music was via the movie "Revenge of Nerds." All understandable, given that she's 30 and the Talking Heads frontman is 60. Their show, which featured the majority of songs from their collaborative album "Love This Giant" as well as retooled selections from their individual catalogs, was riveting stuff. Check out Mikael Wood's review in the Times [...]
